effexor

Avatar n tn i have been using effexor xr for 6 or 7 years and now that i in menopause i have gained some unwanted weight and i read that wellbutrin or zyban will help with the weight issure....would this be an ok trade???
Avatar n tn What is the difference between Effexor and Effexor XR? Are the dosages usually the same for both meds?
Avatar m tn This 2nd doctor looked it up, and said there was little difference in the cost, and would I like to go back on Effexor XL? I said yes. That was a year ago, and I am still on 150mg Effexor XL. I feel really well. All my anxieties and panics have gone, along with the depression. I know not everybody gets the same benefit as me from Effexor. I also do not know if there is much difference in the original, and the generic form. I may have felt just as well on the generic.
Avatar f tn I tried Pristiq in an attempt to help with menopausal symptoms. I was (and am) on Effexor XR, and Pristiq is almost identical to Effexor XR. I think the only difference is in their molecules. I didn't find Pristiq any better (for me) than Effexor XR, so I went back to Effexor XR. I wish you the best of luck with it. I hope it works for you.
Avatar m tn yes bev i have been on effexor xr since 2001 and i gained a tremendous amount of weight and then my thyroid bit the dust so now i'm on meds for that. i'm hoping that will help me lose weight. it's really hard. but this profuse sweating is just awful. i'm in texas and it's already been 100 many days. i am just wondering if there is something herbal or ANYTHING that would decrease the sweating. i drink tons of water a day.
Avatar n tn I've been on Effexor XR for many years and have had great success, but I was concerned because I would like to start having a family. Recently my doctor recommended that I switch to Zoloft because it would be safer during pregancy. I'm really hesitant to switch, especially that whole transitional part between going off the Effexor and going on Zoloft.
Avatar f tn my mother (77yrs.of age) has been taking 10mg lexapro for general depression and body aches. Today, the physician said he wanted to give her something that would make her feel more "perky" and changed her script to 150mg Effexor. The instructions are to take 1 pill/day and to stop the lexapro. From my reading it seems that these meds should be weaned.
309783 tn?1271958229 (Same as in Effexor XR) The patent on Effexor XR ran out about 8 months ago and now other pharm companies can make generic extended release Effexor. In the last 7 years Effexor XR has made Weith Pharm company 3.5 Billion dollars per year. That Billion not Million. Now you can see why other pharm companies are so eager to get their generic version to market. For 5 of those 7 years Weiths Effexor XR was the top selling antidepressant drug in the world. There is a reason for this.
Avatar n tn Yes, I agree w/ the generic thing. They offered me generic, but I refused. I hope you feel better. I know exactly how your are 'feeling'... I have to say that I feel better on Effexor XR and my family also sees a big difference. I can tolerate things much better, and will ask to go to 75 in a couple weeks. I think this dose is ok, but I need just abit more. Deep breaths.. thanks for all...
Avatar f tn Hi, I have GAD and took lexapro and generic lexapro for almost 9 years before it stopped working for me. My doc put me on effexor xr on May 5 and I feel as though my anxiety has gotten worse. She has recommended we double the dose to 150 mgs . I am looking for advice as to whether I should continue on this path. I want so much for this to work ! Any thoughts? Thank you so much! Anyone has this experience and then had improvement? Looking for any and all positive feedback!
429925 tn?1203905115 One option (if your Effexor is failing) is to add Eskalith 450 to the Effexor XR. Adding Eskalith gives Effexor more punch and may give you another couple years from Effexor. I did this and I was able to squeze another 2 years from Effexor at the same 300MG a day dosage that was failing prior to that. Just some ideas to talk to you doc about.
Avatar m tn did tell me very vague about the Effexor XR and that Pristiq was its cousin. Now, I will say that when I was on Effexor XR I had horrible leg cramps to the point I couldn't move. They put me on rls meds. When I got off the Effexor my leg cramps stopped. I still have leg tremors, but nothing like before. Anyway, Thank you for the infor.
477048 tn?1215567947 know that you felt your best on the Effexor xr, and perhaps something can be worked out. Are there samples available that your doctor could provide to you to help you with the financial aspects? Good luck...
Avatar n tn I called the pdoc back and he's having me take a 75 effexor xr and my pristiq 50---I guess a ween off of it, no more brain zaps for now, I dont know what will happen after I stop taking effexor all together, we shall see in a few weeks. As for the comment above, I too have seen people have to pay out of pocket for perscriptions and its usually elderly and people like me, who had been laid off and take medications and are put into a situation of having to pay out of pocket, what to do?
1325908 tn?1274861128 t really say I ran across it I crashed into it, any body on the anti-depressant Effexor XR PLEASE go to www.fda.gov Put in Effexor XR in the search engine there. Information is there about Effexor XR. I found a pdf on a warning letter. This may not mean anything to you but it tells me that Wyeth tryed to pass this med off as a good medication and now those of us that are on it are having a hell of a time getting off of it.
1450085 tn?1298941702 My psychiatrist switched me from Effexor to Pristiq and believe me I was scared to death! I'd heard nothing but horror stories about coming off Effexor and I can not stress to you how afraid I was! My doseages were a little different. I had been taking 150mg of Effexor and switched down to 50mg of Pristiq. I am happy to report no withdrawal symptoms at all, even though my doseage was lowered considerably.
603543 tn?1255294450 I hate to see you have to switch from Effexor XR if it was working well for you. You are correct that Celexa and Effexor XR are very different in terms of what neurotransmitters they effect in the brain. Celexa being an SSRI and Effexor XR being an SNRI. For depression has heavy symptoms of fatuge and exhaustion, then an SNRI is always a better bet becuase they tend to be more energizing.
Avatar m tn See psychiatrists, psychologists, counsellors, been in hospital, taken an overdose, etc, etc. Now I am well on 150mg Effexor XR and will never stop taking it. Glad you have had a diagnosis, because that will help you understand why you feel like you do. Hope the Cognitive Behavious Therapy works for you. That is one thing I have not tried. Let me know how you get on with it, and if it helps. Take care.
Avatar n tn Ahh Pristiq, The new SSNRI. Actualy just a slight tweek on Effexor XR. Interesting fact about Pristiq..... Wyeth's newest Antidepressant medication Pristiq, is actually kind of a sister drug of Effexor XR. In fact in terms of the active ingrediants molecular structure they are about 98% the same. You know why the Drug Company Wyeth would produce a drug so much like Effexor XR?
1378325 tn?1285346625 I was told my my pharmacist that Effexor XR and the generic is made my the same manufacture. The price is the same to me under my medicare plan except less money is applied toward the medicare "gap" so I choose the generic. Insurance is such a scam. If it were you or me we would be up on racketeering charges. Pharmaceuticals have big bank accounts and politicians have deep pockets.
Avatar m tn Has anyone tried the generic for of the regular effexor. My insurance is way more the effexor xr. The regular effexor has a generic.
