Avatar m tn I have been taking 300 mg Effexor ER and am experiencing severe insomnia. I dropped the dosage to 150 a week ago with no improvement. Today I took 75 mg. If the insomnia IS being caused by Effexor ER, when can I expect the dosage changes to help my insomnia? Getting desperate ...
Avatar m tn How long did you try Effexor? Generally, you need to be on them for 2 months before the effects are noticeable. Insomnia is common during the first several weeks with those drugs, it usually goes away.
Avatar f tn My son just started Effexor and only a small dose of 37.5 mg for anxiety and worry and hx of headaches. He is 18 and has ADHD too. He has had severe insomnia since starting this and is supposed to go up to double the dose after 7 days. Is this normal during the inital phase? what is the best anti anxiety med for an 18 you male?
Avatar f tn Has anyone else taken this combo with Effexor to help with the insomnia? I am open to other suggestions for natural supplements to take with the effexor. It seems to help with the migraines so far. I had only 1 so far in the past 3 wks. Before that, the dr. put me on Celexa and it caused 3 day migraines every week.
540093 tn?1279821834 I have been on Effexor for 2 years. I just feel normal, I don't have endless energy like you. Yes, I have problems sleeping. I have not connected that to the drug. I just accept that sometimes sleep is elusive. Seems you are reacting to this drug differently to me. Can you carry on with this endless energy. I am 150mg daily and you are on a much lower dose. It is up to you whether lack of sleep versus endless energy is worth it.
Avatar f tn I started bk on the effexor 75mg in march this yeah and did good for 7/8weeks but then went down hill and ended up in hospital wasn't nice at all because effexor had caused me insomnia. thats why the switch to prozac was done and have been off the effexor 21 days should that be out of my system now after being on it since march and messed about with the dose going up and down from 75mg to 150mg to 225mg then bk down to 150mg then down again to 75mg.
Avatar f tn s losing its effect however I experimented and a small amount of Cocaine and my anxiety/ocd and insomnia completely dissappear for 5 days. Does this give any insight into the root of my problem?
Avatar f tn Effexor is the only one that may cause insomnia. As for the nicorette gum, it may cause tightness of the chest and it is recommended that you stop if you feel this tightness. As for the hiccups the nicorette itself would not cause it, but it could be the way you are chewing or swallowing.
Avatar n tn Friend is 46 yo female. s/p L mast. No chemo or rads. Started tamoxiphen 6 wks. ago. posive side effects most significant are hotflashes, mood swing, insomnia & decreased libido. Why MD. put her on effexor with it's similar side effects and do side effects decrease as in time?
Avatar f tn I have early stage invasive lobular carcinoma in both breasts. It is estrogen positive. I am 55 years old and perimenopausal. My doctor and I have discussed options and I am pretty sure that I want the double mastectomy, with some immediate reconstruction (no implants). Do you suggest taking Tamoxifen? I'd like to avoid it if possible, since I already get headaches, hot flashes, insomnia, mood problems, etc.
Avatar f tn I took the Klonopin with Effexor originally. Had to get off Effexor because of the insomnia. Celexa seems better for me. I have a couple days a month when I have General anxiety usually leading to a panic attack. I don't want this to get worse so I am hesitant to take this last step in the taper.
Avatar f tn I think it's strange your dr. didn't put you on Effexor in the morning since taking it at night can cause insomnia. I know since I'm prescribed Effexor for major depression. SpecialMom. Concerned you wrote Effexor is addictive. The psychiatric nurse practitioner never told me that.
1665434 tn?1365238898 In your post you mention both depression and anxiety. Can you say if you were prescribed Prozac and Effexor for both of these, or just for the anxiety? Did you start getting depression because of meds is basically what I'm asking. Are these the only 2 meds you've tried so far? If so, you may want to think about trying another newer med. Are you in therapy?
Avatar f tn He also prescribed Ambien for insomnia and Ativan for panic attacks. I feel better as far as anxiety goes but symptoms of depression are very much still there. I have no energy at all. No motivation. If it were up to me, I would stay in bed all day. Would a stimulant be helpful in my situation? I understand there are some contraindications for example with Effexor and Adderall. Are there other options?
Avatar f tn Hi, I recently stopped taking Prempro after ten years due to breast cysts. I was doing okay for a couple weeks but now get hot flashes and night sweats, along with insomnia. I've heard black cohash may help. Has anyone tried it with success?
Avatar n tn I have been on effexor for 7yrs and it is nothing to play with. Go to or talk w a dr. I too am trying to come off of it. My trick has been doing it very slow!
Avatar f tn I was on Effexor ER for approx. 10 years, and with my doctor's help have been weaning myself off since November, 2008. I followed the dr.'s advice for slow reduction and finally stopped taking Effexor ER the end of August. I had a few withdrawal symptoms, but this week I can no longer sleep. I am extremely restless and just walk and pace until totally exhausted, when I'm able to sleep for about one hour and then start the process again.
433412 tn?1232554456 I think the SNRI's work better for anxiety and panic attacks. Effexor xr worked great for me, but did cause some insomnia. I take Celexa now because I have a generic prescription plan. It's ok, but I take a low dose of Klonopin twice a day for the actual panic attacks. Haven't had any in awhile.
603543 tn?1255294450 I think my mom has it and the drs arent being any help. My mom was takin g350mg of effexor xr a day for like 4 years, the the dr told her to just stop cold turkey and presribed another antidepressant at a low dose, I stated that this should nto be done.
Avatar f tn I was on Effexor and Lyrica. Effexor for depression but also for neuropathy pain in my fee also. It seemed the Lyrica and Effexor combined worked for the pain, I went to a neurologist and he took me off the Lyrica, which made me gain 60lbs! lol... and put me on Zonisamide. It has been great for my pain. But now that aI have been on it awhile I am feeling sick to my stomach every morning and my head feels fuzzy.
