Effexor vs ssri

Common Questions and Answers about Effexor vs ssri

effexor

Avatar m tn In fact many people take an SNRI like Effexor, Pristiq, or Cymbalta along with an SSRI as a regular treatment. The two meds will not collide with each other. Thus, simultaniuosly tapering "SLOW" off the Effexor while ramping up the Zoloft is perfectly safe in almost every case.
622511 tn?1373575103 I took ONE tablet and the PVC's started a few hours later but I was in Bigeminy and Trigeminy and without a doubt in my mind, I am certain it was the effexor and NOT just a coincidence. If one has to be on an SSRI/SNRI (and god knows I tried them ALL) which one is LESS likely to affect the hearts conduction system? Does anyone know from their own experiance?
Avatar f tn Prozac is sometimes used to help people withdraw from ssris, but Effexor isn't an ssri, it's an snri, which means it also targets norepinephrine, not just serotonin. If it's so bad your life is intolerable, the protocols call for you to be put back on the Effexor at the last dose at which you felt fine, then taper off more slowly, as slowly as you need. We can't tell you how long it'll last or how bad it'll be, because for some it's easy and for some intolerable.
Avatar n tn 1) Given I experienced these 5 side effects above with SSRI, would that same SSRI action in Effexor be *likely* to cause same effects (i.e. how often does the norepinephrine action counteract each of these 5 side effects)? Which of the 5 most/least likely not to recur with Effexor? 2) Am I better off with Paxil/Zoloft + Wellbutrin or Buspar, or is my non-reaction to Wellbutrin a sign that it wouldn't do much in combination w/ Paxil?
Avatar f tn well you certainly are entittled to your opinion, however, given the huge nubers of people that do have, and have had verified psychosis as a result of withdrawals, especially from effexor, and the 50 page report wyeth sent to me about effexor, they even say that this is one of the bonafide side effects from suddenly stoping the med without tapering.
Avatar n tn I got almost 5 years of total remission from Effexor until it pooped out on me. Prior to the Effexor I was taking the SSRI Zoloft which worked well for many years but also pooped out on me. Cymbalta? Eh. Overrated I think. It's an SNRI like Effexor, but I tried it for 8 weeks at a high dosage a couple years ago and it failed to work at all for me. I also know countless people that have failed to respond to Cymbalta, but did fine on Effexor.
Avatar n tn Hi. I'm on tamoxifen so I can't take any meds which inhibit cyp2D6 enzymes. I've been on almost ALL SSRI ( Effexor, lexapro, celexa, nortriptyline, fetzima, & viibryd) & my depression worsens with them (suicidal thoughts, etc). The only one that has helped is remeron but every time I've had to return to remeron I gain weight. I'm usually 110-112 and eat very well & workout almost everyday.
Avatar n tn Has anyone taken Effexor and, if so, did you experience any weight related side-effects. I am worried about gaining weight and will not take this medicine until I find out. I'm just scared because SSRIs cause gain. Even though this is not an SSRI, it could cause weight gain.
Avatar n tn My husband will be going on antidepessants and I would like comments on Lexapro and Lexapro vs Effexor Xr. All comments are heplful. Thank you!
Avatar n tn I just tried Wellbutrin because I read that it had fewer side effects than others and may help lose weight (and I had just tried Cymbalta and Effexor and didn't like the side effects)...I was a little hesitant to try Wellbutrin since I had success with Prozac in the past, which works on Serotonin (like Zoloft) and Wellbutrin works on Dopamine (a completely different drug)...
Avatar f tn Yeah, it's called Serotonin Syndrome and can be deadly. I saw someone on ER die of it once.
Avatar m tn so I don't see how my PDoc would be able to add more benzo meds to calm the initial anxiety when I will start the SSRI... For the SSRI, i'm used to all of them... They was like candy for me in the past, no side-effects like increase anxiety but MAJOR weight gain... they lead to my morbid obesity problem and that's because of the Paxil that I had the gastric by-pass surgery to loose some weight...
Avatar m tn I have taken in the past Zoloft, Paxil, Effexor XR, BuSpar, Ativan, Xanax, Wellbutrin. I hate SSRI and SSNRI's they make you lose yourself and lose emotion. Like a robot. I won't take them, no matter how much a doctor tries to downplay the side effects. i'm 23 years old, and have had drug problems in the past.
Avatar f tn I keep commenting on my own post. lol. I want and NEED an SSRI that is approved for anxiety.
Avatar n tn discontinuing Effexor. Do NOT do this abruptly. Or rather, based on anecdotal experience, I do not recommend discontinuing Effexor abruptly. I take 150mg of Effexor XR everyday. I ran out of a script and couldn't get in touch with my doctor. Since it was a Thursday night, I decided to get off the meds by using the weekend to battle any withdrawal symptoms. I had been taking Effexor for six months and thought it had done its job.
Avatar n tn Can anyone give me an idea of how long it usually takes for your metabolism to recalibrate after stopping Effexor and/or Lexapro? I've gained significant weight while on these drugs (despite an intense exercise program and careful diet). My nutritionist and MD told me that the drugs likely altered my metabolism, but no one can tell me how long it will take to correct that. Most frustrating, I've noticed that since I stopped taking both, my weight gain has accelerated.
Avatar n tn I've tried Xanax, but it just makes me depressed, but does take the panic away. However; she won't prescribe me Xanax anymore, only an SSRI. My psychologist thinks that is ok for me to try the SSRI, so he is backing my Dr. up. Does anyone have any advice? My Dr. and family think most, not all, but most of my svt episodes are from anxiety, so they all think that this is the way for me to go too. I do know my svt is also caused from heat, and my hormones and exercise.
Avatar f tn Another antidepressant good for anxiety is Effexor. This is an SNRI which is slightly different from Paxil, Lexapro, Prozac, etc. It is both a serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor which acts as a dual combatant for anxiety.
5203459 tn?1373371504 I've read that you cannot take this if you are on a SSRI, but Effexor XR is considered a SNRI. I just wanted to make sure before I start this regimine. Starting it to help come off of Tramadol.
Avatar n tn So my question is what should i get on for my anxiety? I also have pre mature ejaculation and im wondering what is the best ssri for that? I'f my premature ejeculation would go away then i would be one happy man =P and no its not from anxiety its physical pre mature ejaculation. I read it could be due to low serotonin as well. Please help, any would be greatly appreciated!
881463 tn?1245349249 He feels that the chest/back pain likely has a minor cause and is being exacerbated by my Depression, anxiety, fixation on the pain, hypochondria and somatizeation disorders I suffer from His opinion of the chest MRI vs the CT scan question I am also asking you about is that I that I don't need it at all, as they both do virtually the same things and the CAT Scan would in fact look at the chest and abdomen better, whereas for nerve, brain and spinal issues he likes the MRI for detecting thin
622511 tn?1373575103 Because I am always finding new or innovations in either medicines and treatment options. I am very curious about cyro-ablation vs. RF-ablation. Even though it is still in it's infancy and I have been on the fence for 12 of those 14 years about an EP study and ablation but after reading more horror stories than pleasant stories or outcomes of people following "multiple" ablations, I never got the guts to pursue that option.
746058 tn?1248348265 Im still up in the air about whether or not this is the method I agree with or if I should go with Effexor (which my other doc suggested) or take the Effexor and the Xanax as needed. I was idner the impression Xanax was a "rescue" drug only but he assured me that it can be used daily. I did get the impression that it would be used daily for the immediate future to get me through my days and couple it with talk therapy.
Avatar m tn I have been using Cymbalta for alomost four years, I am very concerned that my Doc wants to start me on 40mg of Prozac when I have been on 120mg of Cymbalta. Can I have your thoughts about 40mg vs. 120mg and what side affects I will have to go though.
Avatar f tn Dear Doctor, I was recently hospitalized for severe depression and panic disorder, and am currently in an outpatient CBT program at the same hospital - the program is terrific and I'm learning a great deal. The problem is medication - I'm hugely sensitive to drugs and virtually every SSRI or SSNRI I've tried - Cymbalta, LexaPro, and now Zoloft - really exacerbates the anxiety. The psychiatrist affiliated with the program has been wonderful and understanding, and prescribed .
