Effexor for anxiety and depression

Common Questions and Answers about Effexor for anxiety and depression

effexor

Avatar m tn I have been suffering from chronic pain. My doctor has prescribed Effexor for the depression that goes along with the chronic pain. I've read a little about Effexor and am not sure this is right for me. The dose now is 25mg once a day with food and increasing to 2 times a day as "tolerable". Any one here have experience with this stuff?

Avatar n tn I have been on various forms of different anti-depressants which also help some anxiety. The longest medication I was on was Effexor XR for maybe 8 years. Over that time I developed an alcohol problem. Since then I quit alcohol without a problem, however, I am currently in the midst of a major depressive episode due to a break up of a relationship. I went off Effexor 6 months ago and my doctor put me on 150 mg of the Zoloft generic and also started me on Wellbutrin generic.
Avatar f tn Not daily at first, strictly recreational. They made me more energetic, strangely enough. I have anxiety/depression and take prescription Effexor. It helps, but I do just what I HAVE to, like work and try to help with basic chores. Anyway, I don't have time to give all the details, but here is my question/problem. I believe my use has become abus/addiction. I have not done any for two days and feel like hell. So, is there any particular interaction between percs and Effexor?
Avatar m tn for more than I ever had been, I decided to let a psych determine if the meds my family dr was giving me were correct and also for some reason I want an official diagnosis. I know I have depression and was having pretty severe anxiety but I would like to know exactly what type of depression/anxiety or just maybe ease my mind about some things. I was told I will spend about 20 minutes with a nurse and then about 25 with the dr since this is my first visit. So we will see how it goes!
Avatar m tn Hello! I'm on Effexor, for anxiety and depression. It has helped the depression component of my problems pretty well, but... I feel like it is actually making the anxiety WORSE. Sort of. Before, I had these sort of anxiety "spikes". Not as bad as a panic attack, but kind of similar in a less intense way. But now I just feel like I'm on a 24/7 adrenaline rush. Awesome when I'm at work and have tons of stuff to do, awful when I'm at home trying to relax.
492527 tn?1212175672 What would be the better medication for depression, anxiety, and social anxiety. Effexor xr or Zoloft.
Avatar f tn I was on effexor 75 mg for almost 7 months. Now that I am pregnant, my doctor stopped the effexor gradually and it is been now 5 days that I stopped completely the effexor. I have bad withdrawl symptoms. like anxiety, I cannot sleep at night, mood swings, dizziness, and i cannot sleep at night. can I switch to prozac ?. my doctor's opinion not to take any anti-deppresants medications for at least the first 3 months of pregnancy are completed.
Avatar f tn Effexor is not generally used when anxiety is the primary problem. That's why you should see a psychiatrist, not a regular doc. Effexor targets not only serotonin but also norepinephrine, which is basically adrenaline. This is meant for people whose primary problem is depression. Now, that doesn't mean it never works for anxiety, but ssris or tricyclics would normally be tried first for this problem, not snris.
Avatar n tn My doctor upped my Effexor yesterday to150 and the anxiety and depression are soooooo bad today. How long until you saw a great improvement? I am in therapy and will continue. The pharmacist told me today an increase in anxiety and depression could last up to 2 weeks. I would appreciate any feedback Thank you so much!!
Avatar f tn And exactly where did you get your info, Mom? The internet, right? From the manufacturer's website perhaps? Drugs.com? All antidepressants are used for all things, but that doesn't mean they are good for those things for a particular individual. Once a drug gets approved, a doctor is allowed to use it for anything. If you research how drugs work and if you get a psychiatrist who specializes in how drugs work, you suddenly get an entirely different view of things.
Avatar n tn I was on paxil for almost 20 years for depression and panic. MD switched me to Cymbalta. He said it is possible for you to get used to meds after being on them long term. Is that true, cannot find much info. on that. The problem is the Cymbalta was better with my depression but seems to increase my anxiety and cause me excessive sweating, esp in social situations. Does the sweating sound like a common side effect for SNRI?
Avatar f tn t recomend Effexor for someone that is suffering only Anxiety dissorder without moderate to severe depression, but Effexor while primarily for depression also helps a lot for people that have generalized anxiety with depression. I took Effexor for 4 years before it stopped working for me, but during those for years it did a very good job of controling my Depression as well as my Anxiety and panic attacks. So for me it worked when other meds like Zoloft stopped working.
Avatar m tn What do you recommend I do to ask my doctor to increase dosages on neurontin and effexor xr for anxiety? Do you recommend to take Seroquel XR and other recommend medications to me sleep at night and to help ith severe anxiety attacks? I need something to knock me out.
399151 tn?1201289425 Everyone's body is different, so you shouldn't listen to what people tell you. You should listen to your doctor. I've been on Wellbutrin (I take it with Effexor XR) and Klonopin for anxiety, for about three weeks now 150 mg per day, and I haven't noticed that it's affected my anxiety level. But, again, that's me. Everyone is different. I, too, have a difficult time (at times) reaching my doctor.
Avatar n tn Hi, I have taken effexor before but it was such a very long time ago and not for very long as it didn't suit me so I don't really remember the withdrawals as I was on mega doses of tranquillizers too. Buuuuut, I have read many times on this forum that you must wean off slowly....again WEAN OFF SLOWLY if you want to be successful. I'm sure someone is going to give you some great advice. Also why are you not asking your doctor about this? Anyway, best of luck, be careful.
Avatar m tn Also, this is the Anxiety forum, and Effexor is more for depression, though it can be helpful if the anxiety is the result of depression as it very often is. St. John's Wort is only for depression, not for anxiety, and taking one herb probably won't help you if your problem was so bad you actually needed the Effexor.
Avatar f tn Only thing to worry about with snris is they are stimulating because of their effect on norepeniphrine, so they're not usually used if anxiety is the main problem. If anxiety is the result of depression, that's a different story. Also, Pristiq is basically Effexor, so if the Effexor gave you problems, you might want to think about taking what is mostly the same thing updated to get more patent protection, kind of like Celexa and Lexapro. Not exactly the same drug, but very similar.
874521 tn?1424116797 Before I was put on my combination I was on the effexor on its own, however I suffered from anxiety and depression at times severe bouts of it. The epilim came into it when we realised that I did have bipolar tendancies and therefore my pdoc has said that i have bipolar II. I hope this helps in some way.
Avatar m tn these meds need time to work in your system. It usually starts to work after 2 weeks for anxiety and 4 weeks for depression. You are not giving this med enough time. IF you go off of it,,,,even though it has been 3 days....do it slowly I would suggest taking med when you dont have anything important planned for a good month. I have been on Effexor xr for 13 years. It has been great for me !
Avatar n tn Effexor is for anxiety and depression. My Dr. might try me on it. Right now he's got me on Paxil 10mg and I'm not seeing too much of a change on it. If you liked Effexor, had no side effects, and had no problem coming off... (which, you should always wean, even if you didnt have any problems stopping cold turkey), then talk to your Dr. about getting back on it. That is if you are having anxiety again. Don't just take it b/c you want to lose more weight. Hope this helped.
