233002 tn?1316031566 I was prescribed venlafaxine recently and it was a nightmare. I was wondering if anyone else has had any experiences with it and other medicines used to combat the depression that seems to come and go with this disease.
1378325 tn?1285350225 The problem is, I now take the extended release Effexor and the supposed generic for this med is $70 more than the brand name Effexor ER. How could a generic subsitute be more expensive than the brand name, just doesn't make any sense to me. If I chose to take the non-extended release generic Venlafaxine, it would be $80 cheaper than the Effexor ER. I couldn't seem to get any answers about this from Express Scripts. I have never heard of a generic med costing more than the brand name.
Avatar m tn This 2nd doctor looked it up, and said there was little difference in the cost, and would I like to go back on Effexor XL? I said yes. That was a year ago, and I am still on 150mg Effexor XL. I feel really well. All my anxieties and panics have gone, along with the depression. I know not everybody gets the same benefit as me from Effexor. I also do not know if there is much difference in the original, and the generic form. I may have felt just as well on the generic.
Avatar f tn Yes and No. Venlafaxine is the active chemical in Effexor XR, But notice the "XR" Short for Extended Release. Generic Venlafaxine has no time release properties, but there is now a Generic Extended Release formula of Venlafaxine now on the market. I used to take Effexor XR in the past. I know many people still on it and they report that they had a much better response to the name brand Effexor XR than with the Geneic Effexor XR.
Avatar n tn What is the difference between Effexor and Effexor XR? Are the dosages usually the same for both meds?
Avatar f tn Can anyone tell me whats the difference between Efexor xr and Efexor xl (venlafaxine) Thankyou
376940 tn?1241685607 Due to its serotonergic activity, coadministration of tramadol with serotonin-enhancing drugs such as SSRIs, SNRIs, nefazodone, trazodone, and mirtazapine may potentiate the risk of serotonin syndrome, which is a rare but serious and potentially fatal condition thought to result from hyperstimulation of brainstem 5-HT1A and 2A receptors.
Avatar f tn My doctor old me that because these two meds work on different parts of the brain i was experiencing w/d from the Effexor- needless to say- I stopped the Wellbutrin and started taking th Effexor again. Now I want off all meds and am really not looking forward to the dizziness, crying fits, emotional outbursts and brain zaps. Here's to a hopefully short withdrawl!
1110049 tn?1409405744 I am now wondering what the next step is for me. What is the difference between Effexor XL and Venlafaxine. How do I reduce from 37.5mg Venlafaxine? My doctor does not know the answer to this. She said it will have to be trial and error. Any comments that will help please?
Avatar n tn Hi, I have been on Effexor XR for 3 years and I have gained about 40-50pounds, most when my dose was increased to 225, now I am on 75mg b/c I'm getting ready to wean off the medicine in a couple of weeks, and I haven't lost anything yet. My eating habits have not changed and I exercise. I have always been underweight and I could eat whatever I wanted...I'm only 26 years old...I know my metabolism has changed some, but not enough to pack on 40 pounds.
Avatar n tn Pills, shots, diet exercise, and not much food. And water, lots of water. I am still on effexor and probably will be for a while yet. This diet , is at least motivating me to really keep working at it and hopefully be able to get off the diet meds, and the effexor sometime, too.
151951 tn?1267991945 Kaj10 Which doctor discovered the link between effexor and adrenal exhaustion? Gastro, endo, etc.?
Avatar n tn You hear only the bad and very little of the good. I took Effexor at 350Mgs a day for 4 years and in that time it gave to me 99% remission from my severe depression. I had to get off it and switch meds after 4 years because it slowly stopped working for me. This may not be the case with you. I am forever grateful for the 4 years of normalcy that Effexor provided me. Are there side effects?
Avatar m tn There is a big difference between 'addiction' and 'dependence'. But the most commonly understood part of addiction is it results in over-powering drug-seeking behavior. Addiction arises from abuse or in other words, not taking a medication as prescribed or beyond it's specific purpose - and has a different psychological and social impact than what you described. And there really isn't any abuse potential to this medication...
Avatar n tn I will say that effexor is a drug that has extremely bad withdraw symptoms and should never be stopped cold turkey, My friend was on effexor and experienced extreme tiredness and a lot of muscle pain. She lowered her dose 37.5mg a week until she was off. She also said that she felt like she had no motivation and she also felt like things were out of control. She is now on cymbalta and is doing well.
Avatar n tn But I found no significant difference between the Effexor and Venlafaxine. If it's not working when you have given it time to work then go back to your doctor and insist the meds aren't working. even if he can give you something to ease the symptoms temporarily, this will give you time to get used to the meds.
Avatar n tn Your P-doc may offer a Generic replacement for Effexor called Venlafaxine. Venlafaxine is the actual active chemical in Effexor minus the XR (Extended Release) DON'T OPT FOR THE VENLAFAXINE. Yes, it is the same as Effexor XR, but it's Relaese action is not the same. This makes a huge difference in terms of tolerability. If your going to go for an SNRI medication than Effexor XR is the clear choice.
Avatar f tn my mother (77yrs.of age) has been taking 10mg lexapro for general depression and body aches. Today, the physician said he wanted to give her something that would make her feel more "perky" and changed her script to 150mg Effexor. The instructions are to take 1 pill/day and to stop the lexapro. From my reading it seems that these meds should be weaned.
Avatar f tn I tried Pristiq in an attempt to help with menopausal symptoms. I was (and am) on Effexor XR, and Pristiq is almost identical to Effexor XR. I think the only difference is in their molecules. I didn't find Pristiq any better (for me) than Effexor XR, so I went back to Effexor XR. I wish you the best of luck with it. I hope it works for you.
Avatar f tn ” By eating the right foods — the types of foods that everyone, not just those with CFS, should strive to eat — we all can give ourselves more natural energy and eliminate tiredness and fatigue. And for those with CFS, following that advice as closely as possible is even more important to getting the chronic fatigue help you need. Foods to Avoid When You Have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome For chronic fatigue patients, the No.
Avatar f tn It became a little less severe when I was switched to Effexor/venlafaxine, which caused a host of other problems. I have now been off these drugs and back on my original antidepressant, Wellbutrin, for roughly two years and nine months. The chronic severe diarrhea has never gone away, although the fecal incontinence is not as severe as it was while I was on the Zoloft/sertraline-- then, it was during the day and at night; now it happens primarily at night.
479244 tn?1271567259 The goal of this study was to evaluate associations between diet soda consumption and the risk for incident MetSyn, its components, and type 2 diabetes in the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis (MESA). Avatar n tn This pain would intensify which would cause me to wince in pain and then release and then repeat all over again every 5-10 seconds for about a minute. This pain did not radiate anywhere but only within a specific point. Then this same stabbing sensation occurred half way up to the first knuckle of my right middle finger about 30 minutes later. Then immediately following this finger pain I felt pain in my right foot at the joint of my middle toe.
Avatar n tn Hi, has anyone else read some research about the main A-ds actually having very little theraputic effect and the difference between them and placebos being statisticaly meaningless? (search for "The Emporers New Drugs") I ask this as I understand that most people on combination allready use A-ds or end up on them. I was on them(Venfalaxine) and worried because of contra indications about liver disease.
242516 tn?1368227505 A fascinating research study was published today by Irving Kirsch of the University of Hull, questioning whether or not 4 popular antidepressants are any better than placebo, and found that they weren't any better. Here's the study: http://medicine.plosjournals.org/perlserv/?request=get-document&doi=10.1371/journal.pmed.
Avatar n tn I had a seizure about ten years ago after taking Codeine, though they aren't sure it is related to Codeine or due to extremely severe abdominal pain and diarrhea. I shake and panic at the thought of taking anything, and I want to know how safe Venlafaxine is compared to other anti-depressants and if I should be worried about having a seizure. Also, I've had adverse reactions to the beta-blocker Atenolol and I can't tolerate psuedoephedrine. Any thoughts or recommendations?
Avatar n tn Pls explain the difference between Paroxetine and Citalopram, and reoccurrence of side affects having stopped Paroxetine suddenly and returning back to it after 3 weeks. Is it logical that I go thru' all the side affects with Paroxetine once again? Is it acceptable to feel so drowsy? TY for your help. Kind regards, S.
Avatar f tn Attacks could last minutes or hours and any combination of symptoms would happen. And in between attacks, my heart would regularly do many strange things - tachy, brady, irregular rhythm, extremely forceful beats, 'flip-flopping' feelings, etc. I also sometimes experienced a sensation of the heart stopping and restarting - immediately after the restart I would feel a MASSIVE, uncomfortable surge of adrenaline and the heart would beat very fast for a little while.
