Common Questions and Answers about Drugs used ocd

drug

Avatar n tn for children according to the pi (package insert---- the bible if you will regarding a drug). However, the class of drugs has been used for years in kids (good or bad). The issue is that no company would risk the liability of enrolling children into the studies the FDA requires to prove the drugs safety. The class of drugs is fairly safe (especially so in adults) and work very well. But I don't know for sure what happens with kids.
Avatar n tn has anybody used atypical antipsychotic drugs with lexapro to help with increasing frequency of ocd symptoms probabley due to anorexia and malnourishment of the brain?
Avatar m tn Do a search on the bazillion questions just like yours on these forums. And, yes, the OCD forum may be helpful as well.
Avatar m tn Two weeks ago I went to the doctor to get results for my hiv, std and allergy tests. My std tests were negative but he needed to take blood again for the allergy test. He used a short needle with a green cap on one side and a clear cap on the other and he did not use gloves. Is it possible to reuse that type of needle and if he did would the blood still have been infectious inside that type of needle. I was wanted to know if I can contract hiv this way because I feel extremely nauseous and achy.
Avatar f tn The reason this diagnosis has become murky is our old friend the pharmaceutical industry, which often gets patents extended on older drugs by getting FDA approval to use them for OCD, which leads to more diagnoses of OCD where it doesn't exist. I know this not just from research but from personal experience -- anxiety gave me obsessive thoughts and so did antidepressants, but after Paxil withdrawal I developed OCD, and it's quite a different bird.
179856 tn?1333547362 no illegals. LOL i love you guys. kids are responsible, they just lose things sometimes, i used to lose things before, that's until i became OCD... it's a love/hate relationship.
Avatar n tn I'm 19 and have OCD and it used to consume most of my day just like your daughter. I found that perhaps even more helpful than medicine was therapy. Find a good behavorial and exposure psychologist. I was lucky and found one of the top OCD psychologists in the country, if not the world. She really helped me and my OCD is much more manageable if not gone for most of the time. Hope everything works out and good luck.
Avatar f tn Hi , i have been clean for 4 years now of drugs and have been diagnosed with OCD 2 years back . Have been in therapy ever since and have been doing very well till last weekend. Drinking was a part of my life but this particular night i got very very drunk and there were people around me who took drugs and i took as well as mi state of mind was blurred and my judgement clouded.
Avatar m tn Most medications that are used to treat OCD are anti-depressants, specifically SSRIs...selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors. In short, it is believed that we don't have enough serotonin in our brains and these medications help us to have a proper balance. Now the flip-side is that I take a SNRI and not a SSRI. Mine is a serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhhibitor. So, again as lola said we are not doctors, it is best to discuss this with your psychiatrist.
Avatar f tn I have never used intravenous drugs. Yet I have been crippled by HIV OCD. I have had three tests in 12 months (all negative). Every time, I get convinced my doctor/pharmacist has infected me. One used a tissue to wipe my finger after the pin-prick test, and I was worrying over whether he had used that tissue on a previous patient (who was probably HIV+) and infected me with dried blood.
Avatar f tn I know I sounds crazy but have horrible OCD when it comes to STDs (even though I have never had unprotected sex used IV drugs). Please help - I am in the process of scheduling an appointment with a therapist because these thoughts are getting out of control.
Avatar f tn Well, I'm 22 years old. I've had both OCD and ADD since ever. I started treating my OCD a year ago, taking citalopram, and now it's pretty much under control. I Want to start treating my ADD because it really affects my grades and studying, I'm a medical student by the way. The question is, if I combine a norepinephrin reuptake inhibitor with my SSRI, would it be okay, or it would cause problems?
Avatar n tn Two years ago the US Food and Drug Administration called for a stronger warning on labels for stimulant Drugs used foe used to treat common types of Attention Deficit disorder --Adderall and Dexedrineas well as methylphenidates ,such as Concerta and Ritalin.Try the Natural way.
Avatar m tn Well, ocd is a disorder that needs to be treated. With all psychiatric disorders, there is no 100 percent guarantee. But with medication and therapy, you have your best chance to minimize the effect of having the disorder. I would absolutely seek the help of a psychiatrist. Let us know how you are doing!
Avatar f tn I have come to this online community forum desperate for help. My marriage is falling apart, my family and relatives treat differently because of my ocd. I'm scared of stepping on syringes, being stabbed by someone. Especially my 22 month old and daughter being stabbed by a person in the public. I can't go near anyone with a bag or let my kids I go the opposite way.
Avatar m tn I have OCD and have the weird sensitivity that you mentioned. Every time I touch or hear something that bothers me I have to make my hands into a fist and apply pressure to the tips of my fingers. I've had this problem all my life though- I've never done any drugs. I've been on Zoloft for depression/OCD and even if my OCD improves, the sensitivity always persists. I will say this though, the sensitivity bothers me a lot more when I'm more stressed.
Avatar m tn Taking LSD/Drugs is one of my biggest fears, I know that the thought is totally irrational, and that no one should or would do this, but it still instills me with instant fear. I will still use the milk (Or item in question) but just the thought entering my mind, causes it to stay for a while, and causes me a lot of distress, as I then assume I am being very paranoid and thus display a classic symptom of potential Schizophrenia?
Avatar f tn have a 5 year old son (only child) who was diagnosed with adhd and placed on adderal 5 mg. it has not worked so we have taken him off. he has also been diagnosed with ocd for constantly peeling the skin off his thumbs/fingers and now starting on his toes. the dr wants to place him on zoloft to treat the ocd. will this help with the adhd in school?? He is very smart and ahead of his class but cannot wait his turn and blurts, etc. Very active and constantly moving.
Avatar m tn Hello, I am a 21 year old male. I have anxiety and OCD. Since turning 21 I have started to drink a lot more. And i noticed my anxiety and OCD getting worse. I have been sober for 2 weeks and have noticed it has gotten a little better. Does drinking cause anxiety/ocd to worsen? Also. I have read that marijuana can cause anxiety to make to be worse, some say it relaxes them. does anybody have input on this?
Avatar n tn So technically it could be used 100 times! What is the worst case scenario if it was used before me by someone who is HIV positive? Is it at possible that I could get HIV this way? I do plan to test again, but in the meantime the wait really kills me and messes with my daily life for sure! It's debilitating.. Can someone please just give me the real truth on this situation so I know what I'm facing? Thank you so much for your time!
Avatar m tn I'm not a psychiatrist, but I personally would take either of those drugs for depression. You don't go into what you mean by intrusive thoughts, but as I keep saying on here, OCD isn't just intrusive thoughts, the true form is being obsessed with repeated ritualistic behaviors that if not performed make you really nervous.
Avatar f tn No. There is no such thing. Have you ever had a filling where they put that stuff in your mouth before they use the needle that is suppose to numb it a bit? Even with that there is no mistaking they just shoved a needle into your gum or your cheek. I know you have been on here before but I can't remember what for. Obviously HIV but was it always about your children?
Avatar f tn This is for ocd help only and will not assess risks for your ocd reassurance. Know that. OCD is treatable with something called exposure response therapy. The way that works is you tell yourself it's just a thought and then say so what? It goes one step further and says that yes, you got hep B from this. It desensitizes you to the anxiety that thought creates.
1733021 tn?1310774890 Oh sweetie....my heart goes out to you. Based on what you wrote, you do, indeed, have OCD. I'm sure by now you have googled OCD and done some research, but in case you have not done that, I suggest you do. There is a web site just for this disorder. It is called The International OCD Foundation and the address is ocfoundation.org My daughter has OCD. She is now 18. I have learned far more about OCD than I had ever wanted to.
Avatar m tn I'm trying really hard to overcome my ocd in the past and i do know what ocd can do to your mind and body with false memories or false alarms/ informations. And to be completely honest, i'm still able to know whether it is ocd or the real deal.
Avatar f tn You have anxiety, combined with OCD I used to do alot of the same things. I suggest seek therapy and not any anti anxiety drugs you will get worst and they put you in a fog.
