Avatar f tn merinol is a prescription medication that is used to increase appetite in cancer patients. I have also seen it used for pain relief although I am unfamiliar in it's exact makeup but I am pretty sure it is a main made version.
Avatar f tn s called neuropathc, or nerve, pain. There is no obvious cause for the pain. The pain centers for the affected area are instructed to fire for no reason. Mesages sent along damaged central nervous system paths get corrupted and the result is neuropathic pain. I have it in my feet. There is nothing wrong with my feet, but without meds they can hurt like h*ll :-) Finding the right drug or drugs to deal with the pain can be a bit of a process.
Avatar m tn What we do know is the long-term use of these types of drugs can affect our brain long term. We know they have peculiar side effects on certain individuals. We know that for some they are a life saver. It's such an individual thing that you do your cost/benefit analysis, make a choice, and hope for the best.
1023657 tn?1251844941 One of them is exercise. Fibromyalgia pain is muscle pain and the most important therapy for muscle pain is regular, gentle and low-impact exercise. It keeps muscles conditioned and healthy and decreases the amount of discomfort. It is very important to try low-stress exercises such as walking, swimming, water aerobics, and biking rather than straining exercises such as weight training. Heavy exercises worsen the symptoms.
Avatar f tn i have never heard of botox injections for pain control...my pain mangemnet dr is a anesthesiologiost and he perscribes me narcotics for chronic back and leg pain, i have 3 herniated disc and already have had one back surgery.. i gues if you want to check out the dr before you go you would have to ask questions..i know that is sometoimes hard to do because of the stigma that is attached to chronic pain patients as drug seekers.
Avatar m tn In fact, for patients with cirrhosis, acetaminophen, when used as described, is the preferred medication for the treatment of pain.” ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ From an anecdotal standpoint, I had significant fibrosis; I treated for several years with a large research and transplant center here, and they *insisted* I use Tylenol for minor aches and pains. Every patient has their own needs; be sure to check with your doctor before altering medication regimens.
1000946 tn?1253807847 I guess you just have to hope they wont think you are shopping for pain meds because you are an addict. Of course, I went to each butthole doc for a while before I switched. I always held out hope that something else would work and I got so tired of going to yet another doc! I didn't come out and ask for pain meds until I had been to them several times and had tried several of their ideas first. I want something else to work. I dont think any of us fibro girls WANT to be on pain meds.
Avatar f tn The first thing they need to figure out is if you have nerve pain or muscle pain or both. For muscle pain it would be muscle relaxers like Baclefin or Zanaflex or something similar. For nerve pain in the states they use Gabenpentin which is a seizure medicine or Lyrica or Trileptal. Or sometimes anti depressants such as Amitryptoline. For headaches they use Topamax as a preventative. I take Immitrex for my migraines.
1754908 tn?1312400362 I have a degenerative back condition as well as osteoarthritis and all I can say is careful what you wish for.. I did get prescribed opiates for pain relief and at first I was like you - wow! this is amazing!! What a God send!! Then months later I found myself addicted. By the time I realized my problem I was in too deep. Since then it's been a struggle to get off the opiate train. I cannot describe the hell opiates have caused in my life.
Avatar n tn Hi guys, I was wondering if anyone can tell me if you do have ms and it is the type that causes nerve pain and muscle spasms when you start taking the drugs they put you on do you get relief from the pain?
Avatar m tn ve been in pain for about 20. For most of that time, I ran the gambit of opioids from hydrocodone to morphine to fentanyl. If it was on the market, I was eventually told to take it. I got good relief with opioids, but even at the very beginning, I had a tolerance problem. My mother is the same way. She takes a med once and then she's taking the highest possible dose -- not because she wants to, but because the lower doses do not work. I am the same way.

Avatar m tn I successfully treated with a lot less pain than others on treatment. One of the reasons was I was aware of the above three types of drugs for nausea, sleep and anti-depressant medication. Due to the fact, I also access the relief of those drugs during another chemotherapy treatment for cancer. There is options for relief. You just have to know what to ask for.
Avatar f tn The best thing is to work closely with your doctor and pharmacist and listen to your body. Be aware that you have to wean on and off these types of drugs with a doctor's advice. Also, these drugs can depress you, so keep in touch with your doctor if you experience that. The great thing is there are a number of these drugs, so if one doesn't agree with you, your doctor can prescribe something else. At the right dosage level, these drugs can control your pain.
Avatar m tn I have been taking buprenorphine, at the dose of 6mg/day, for pain management, for about 1 year. This last month, the pain relief from the medication has not been as effective, and I have ended up taking as much as 8mg to 10mg on some days. Consequently, my medication is running out 4 days earlier than expected, and I am concerned about not only the pain, but w/d's, because I think that I am now physically dependent on the drug.
1415174 tn?1453243103 t easy to get a diagnosis but in the meantime my question was what can I do for pain relief, not a diagnosis. So today I got a muscle relaxer at least. I have been injured 5/5 times by PT's for this problem. So that isn't an option.
370181 tn?1595629445 I DO understand that these types of drugs are controversial in the treatment of arthritic pain, and are never the first line treatment choice, but I think I've given the other stuff a fair trial. I've also done a fair amount of research on what some of the top doctors in this field have said about using opioids...........doctors from the Mayo Clinic, Johns Hopkins, The Cleveland Clinic, and articles in the New England Journal of Medicine.
Avatar n tn drug of benzo family can be used to control seizures, especially Klonopin. and Klonopin can be used for any type of epilepsia, and it is safe to take Klonopin when you have to stop taking some antiepilepisa drugs for some reason. but I don't recommend you eat more than 3 types of antiepilepsia drug, because the interaction between these drug reduce their effects.
Avatar f tn My doctor told me that acetaminophen (tylenol) is harder on the liver than Ibuprophen, that Ibuprophen is actually harder on your kidneys than your liver. It may depend on the stage/condition of your liver, but I was not advised to not take either, and when I specifically asked about ibuprophen, he said it was probably better than the tylenol.
424839 tn?1268186246 The counselor must understand the three types of relapse and the appropriate interventions to be used in each case. The counselor should communicate to the patient that any level of resumption of drug use is still a relapse, necessitating analysis of the process and recommitment to one's recovery program. In other words, a "slip" still is a relapse. The levels of severity are to assist the counselor in determining the appropriate action to be taken.

Avatar f tn I have no idea if it was the fact that i knew when my contractions were coming or that maybe I had more sensation to know where I was directing my pushing or what but I pushed for an hour and half for my first and 30 minutes for my second. I know that my doctor told me that I could only get the narcotics once and after 8 cm I could no longer get anything. So I choose to get it around 5-6 cm so that I am far enough along and the contractions are not as bad as they are closer to the end.
Avatar n tn Is there any cure or permanent relief for this pain. There is constant pain in the inside corner of my left eye (nerve ending) and eyebrow, also pain, itching and stinging in my before mentioned scalp area. I do not want to take and be hooked on drugs for the rest of my life. I have tried and used almost everything I would like to know if there is an alternative to drugs. I have had the usual eye problems caused from shingles, including cataract surgery.
