16087137 tn?1445209323 I started taking Viagra with a prescription after my prostate cancer surgery about two years ago. It really worked well but wasn't covered under my new insurance at all after I retired and I think a months supply from Walgreens or CVS (my local pharmacies) cost around $3-$400 per month. I'm not making alot of money right now, and when I mentioned that to my Dr. he unofficially assured me about generic versions made in Canada, that can legally ship to the US.

Avatar m tn Considering your low PSA levels, there are certain conditions that may make PSA levels low, even when a man has prostate cancer. This can occur if a person is taking drugs used to treat BPH or other conditions like Proscar or Avodart, when a person is taking certain herbal medicines or supplements or in obesity. Men with very low PSA levels may need to be tested every two years.
Avatar f tn Thanks for the post. I forgot to mention I am female.
Avatar n tn Studies have shown that blocking both of these enzyme types dramatically reduces the risk of developing prostate cancer and can also shrink existing prostate cancers and prevent their spread. Curcumin, when added to quercetin, dramatically reduces the development, growth, and spread of both hormone dependent and nonhormone dependent prostate cancers. Both of these anti-cancer flavanoids can be purchased as supplements. Lycopene and indole-3 carbinol.

Avatar n tn infection, prostatic enlargement (BPH) or prostate cancer. Biopsy is usually done to rule out cancer. However, biopsy itself, rigorous physical activity affecting the prostate, such as bicycle riding, may cause a temporary rise in PSA levels and excessive doses of some chemotherapeutic drugs, may increase or decrease PSA levels. It is recommend that a high PSA should be repeated (between 6 weeks and 3 months after the high PSA) before taking any further action.
428185 tn?1203741789 hi, There are current studies using agents similar to Avastin for prostate cancer but these are in combination with other agents, and these are for advanced disease. I think you are making some erroneous assumptions: All cancers are the same, so the therapies for one will necessarily work on any other cancer. If it works for colon it will work for prostate. Even prostate cancers have varied outcomes and may be someday reclassified as unique entities.
Avatar m tn The operation can be used in men with prostate cancer who cannot undergo radical prostatectomy before another treatment begins. In the era of early detection, this is often not the case and primary treatment involves radical prostatectomy, robotic or otherwise. 428185 tn?1203741789 Destroy prostate cancer with vitamin E Scientists from Australia found that vitamin E might play a major role hampering the development and re-growth of prostate cancer tumors. For the study, Dr. Patrick Ling and a team of researchers injected mice with prostate cancer cells. Then, they divided the mice into two groups. They fed one group of mice water fortified with a form of vitamin E called gamma-tocotrienol or y-T3. The other group of mice drank regular water.
Avatar m tn The Gleason score is a number or numbers given based on findings in a pathology exam of a prostate biopsy. The Gleason score is used to stage prostate cancer, and provide a rough prognosis. Higher numbers mean more cancerous cells doing more things, but there are important details worth knowing. See the entry on Wikipedia, on Prostate-Cancer.org, or similar sites for lots of details.

167426 tn?1254086235 another new drug on the horizon Phenoxodiol is being developed as a chemosensitizing agent in combination with platinum drugs for late stage, chemoresistant ovarian cancer and as a monotherapy for prostate and cervical cancers. It has a unique mechanism of action, binding to cancer cells via a cell membrane oxidase, causing major downstream disturbances in expression of proteins necessary for cancer cell survival and responsible for the development of drug resistance.
Avatar m tn No, massages wdn’t affect spread of prostate cancer into the bones. Unfortunately, as you have surmised, this is not good news at all - once prostate cancer has metastasized into the bones, it’s not curable. However, there are now a number of new drugs (as well as hormone therapy) that can kind of keep the cancer at bay for awhile. Only his Dr can tell you what his prognosis is, and if he sounds kinda vague about it, that’s cause it’s very hard to predict how a patient responds to treatment.
Avatar m tn Hormone refractory prostate cancer should go to an oncologist for consideration of chemotherapy; ketaconozole, steroids etc. Make sure your loved one does not deceive himself with worthless snake oil.
Avatar n tn The first doctor I spoke to said BPH and put me on some drugs and suggested I could have a TURP surgery auger out my prostate to make it possible to urinate. I thought something wasn't right about the Diagnosis and talked to another Urologist who said it was "probably" BPH and TURP was probably the right procedure but if I was concerned I could have a biopsee (Spelzed?) done on my prostate to see if there was cancer present.

Such signs and symptoms include pain when urinating, blood in urine, digital rectal exam that suggests prostate abnormalities, and PSA velocity, which refers to the rate at which PSA values are rising over a given period, typically between six months and two years.
