Common Questions and Answers about Drugs used lung cancer

drug

Avatar f tn Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is managed somewhat differently from small cell lung cancer (SCLC) in terms of chemotherapy drugs used. There are many available drugs now available, but platinum based (Cisplatin or Carboplatin) are most often used in combination with other drugs. In general, treatment side effects include fatigue, body weakness, anorexia, and weight loss. If the lung nodules are metastases from the tongue cancer, your father may be given chemotherapy.
Avatar f tn In lung cancer, there are assays for quantitative testing of epidermal growth factor receptors (EGFR), which confers sensitivity to some drugs used in lung cancer like Iressa or Tarceva. The cost of testing can range from a few hundred dollars (e.g. ER/ PR assays) to around 3800 dollars for the Oncotype DX test.
Avatar f tn My Mom has aggressive cancer and is to start TTC, I am very confused reading this as fertility does not come into this, mom has lun trachia lung liver and kidney cancer,,,,Please help I need to know moew about this,
Avatar f tn I don't know about lung cancer, but I see posts from time to time about some universal cure. It seems to me that biomimicry would also have a chance to gain the status of a universal remedy if research on its effects on the body is developed. I don't want to get into conspiracy theories, but I've been hearing cancer cure announcements for 20 years, and our treatment approaches haven't changed. Take at least this remedy https://www.fenbendazole.org/.
Avatar n tn There are a number of drugs and combinations of drugs that can be used for lung cancer - part of the decision would be to consider which side-effects may be unacceptable.
Avatar f tn I would like to know a medical expert's opinion on how lung cancer treatment and prevention can be done through biomimetics.
426937 tn?1203591927 The chemotherapy is focused for a colon cancer, and the drugs that are used do not confer protection for lung cancer. Colon cancer tends to produce small clusters of metastasis - it is atypical Hence, the biopsy was explored. The biopsy would of course involve a needle. Local anesthesia to the area to be punctured is usually given. I'm uncertain whether your previous biopsy for the prostate would make you less anxious or more so. Stay positive.
Avatar n tn Before, there was probably a goal of cure, this time, the treatment may be able to extend life, but would not be likely to free him of lung cancer. This means that controlling the disease is temporary - though there is a wide variability as to how long this actual time period is. A second opinion is a good idea, but make sure that all the details are made available to the next doctor. Stay positive.
Avatar m tn t even know if it is oral or genital. Can HSV-1 affect lungs considering the history of TB? Is it lung cancer? I am getting scared when I read about the link between TB and lung cancer and to make that worse I have HSV-1 on top of that. I read somewhere that HSV-1 affects lungs for immunocompromised people like who have HIV. Do the people who were treated for TB come under immunocompromised categoty? If my immune system is so weak then why didn't HSV-1 show any symptoms to me?
1179456 tn?1263926811 It is used to treat many cancers and other medical conditions. It is used for leukemias, lymphomas, breast cancer, lung cancer, head and neck cancers, and other cancers. This medicine also works on the immune system and is commonly used to treat psoriasis and rheumatoid arthritis. Avatar f tn Most people I know that started with treatment for ovarian cancer in 2003, went with Taxol and Carboplatin, these two were know as the first line treatment drugs, that is the first two drugs most commonly used by oncologists because it had been shown to be the most effective for ovarian cancer (I was stage IIIc). However, things are always changing and based on your mothers history and how she has reacted to chemo drugs, are all considerations your doctor uses when choosing a treatment.
Avatar n tn Hi there Navelbine (Vinorelbine) has been trialled as an Ovarian Cancer drug although it is mainly used in Breast and Lung cancers. It has shown a reasonable response rate in one very small trial (30% response rate in a trial involving 24 patients) but it does not seem to be as effective as other treatment options. Is there a reason for asking about this Chemo?
Avatar f tn Hi, For lung cancer, any surveillance is used to capture early invasive cancer, so the short answer to your question would be yes. Other cancers such as breast and cervix, have known intermediate tumors with malignant potential, and hence, for such cancers, there are more options depending on what are the odds of subsequent invasive cancer.
Avatar f tn Now, both side of lung was found tumour and doctor said that she is not operable. Any chemo drugs can be suggested for this tumour? Any target therapy is suitable for her?
Avatar n tn Hey everyone - I have someone who is using the above drugs combined and takes them in the evening prior to going to bed. Can anyone tell me if there are contraindications with combining the three of these? The person is experiencing insomnia (even though Ambien is supposed to keep you asleep for 7-8 hours), wakes up several times per night, is restless, seems to be experiencing some sort of mental confusion during the day, etc.
Avatar m tn So the news broke last month that Zantac has high amounts of ndma in it. Ndma is used in lab rats to induce cancer. How are they giving this stuff to millions of people for 40 years and just now finding it out? Surely the makers knew from day 1 that it could convert to ndma? I took this for several months and took 24 pills of it for gastritis like symptoms. I also have mental health issues.
Avatar n tn At the time they saw no sign of cancer outside the lung. Now, however, after 4 rounds of chemotherapy the disease seems to have spread during treatment with taxotere and cisplatin: it's now in the liver, bones and adrenal glands. His original tumor was EGFR positive that is why Tarceva came up as a viable second step. The doctors are now hestiant to give it to him, though, because they are not sure if the problems caused by his bone mets could handle treatment by Tarceva.
Avatar m tn Studies have found that people who work with asbestos (in some mines, mills, textile plants, places where insulation is used, shipyards, etc.) are several times more likely to die of lung cancer. In workers exposed to asbestos who also smoke, the lung cancer risk is much greater than even adding the risks from these exposures separately. It's not clear to what extent low-level or short-term exposure to asbestos might raise lung cancer risk.
Avatar n tn s life expectancy is when diagnosed with cancer. It depends on their toleration of the drugs being used to cure them and whether or not it is treatable at all. I believe, and I am NO doctor, that attitude and the will to live plays a very important role in beating cancer and determining how well the patient does. I saw my sister keep a good attitude and believe that she would beat it and she did very well. Her cancer was Stage IV.
Avatar f tn Could this be thyroid cancer that metastisized to lung or lung cancer that met to the thyroid or just 2 primary cancers. Dr.s are a little stumped. I was seen at Uof Penn They said lung surgery first then deal with thyroid.
Avatar n tn Non-small cell lung cancer is the more common variety, and thankfully, over the years better drugs have come along so that these patients also benefit from chemotherapy and the old paradigm that one almost always gets chemo the other one shouldn't has changed.
Avatar n tn If we consider lung cancer, the survival would depend on extent of disease (cancer stage). If we assume non-curative disease extent – lung cancers generally have shorter survival. It may good to discuss these questions with his doctor, then discuss diagnostic options (if there is still a question of what it is) or therapeutic options.
Avatar m tn I think the lung cancer may exclude him from consideration for a liver transplant. That would have to be resolved in some fashion before he would be considered and resolution of lung cancer is a very difficult and unlikely course. I agree with Sir_Osis - he stomach could be drained which would provide a lot of relief from discomfort. There are drugs that are used with a patient with ascites and edema - diuretics. Here is an excerpt from: http://www.merck.com/mmhe/sec10/ch135/ch135e.
Avatar f tn t react well and was in the Intensive Care Unit for 1 month - 1 week of which she was heavily sedated, after her recovery from surgery she underwent Chemo for lung cancer. It is now 2 months on from Chemo and all was going good emotionally, until 4 days ago it was like she has lost her mind - These are some of her symptoms 1. Talking with a slur and not making sense (almost has if on heavy drugs) 2. Dropping things 3. Can’t dress herself / no balance 4.
Avatar n tn Incidental findings in the lung have been observed for a long time in studies evaluating lung cancer screening. It is estimated that up to half of the normal population may harbor some of these incidental masses. Stay positive. Stick to a healthy smoke-free lifestyle. Would you recall the stage of breast cancer 6 years ago? did you undergo a mastectomy or a lumpectomy? did you receive chemo and hormones (tamoxifen) afterwards?
Avatar n tn If it does turn out to be lung cancer hopefully you caught it early. The biopsy will give you a definite answer. My dad is having a biopsy soon too! Good Luck!
