Avatar f tn I am taking tetracycline X2 daily for acne. But I am curious to know if it also cures STDs after a discussion with a best friend. Does tetracycline cure chlamydia and gonorrhea also?
Avatar n tn I have severe cysitc acne that covers my upper back. I went to a dermatologist for this condition beginning at age 12. During the course of treatment I was perscribed Minocycline, Doxycycline, tetracycline, and sulfa based medications, all resulting in allergic reactions. I was finally placed on Accutane with positive results while taking the drug, however six months after completing treatment, the acne returned again.
Avatar f tn If you are having inflammatory acne then tetracycline or doxycycline or minocycline; benzoyl peroxide 5% gel; azelaic acid 20% cream; clindamycin 1% lotion or cream; erythromycin 2% gel or cream. If you are having recalcitrant acne in women then probably oral contraceptive containing norgestimate 0.25 mg and ethinyl estradiol 0.035 mg; spironolactone; prednisone. If you have acne where sweating is an aggravating factor then aluminum chloride solution should be your choice of your treatment.
Avatar f tn You should not be taking doxycycline daily to "keep your skin healthy" unless you have an infection. The doctor who prescribed the antibiotic needs a re-evaluation of his fitness to practice medicine. A daily dose will only ensure that you will develop an antibiotic resistant strain of bacteria.
Avatar n tn In regards to treatment, first line of therapy would be topical metronidazole concurrently with oral tetracycline, or doxycycline or minocycline for 2,5 – 3 months. Systemic erythromycin is recommended in children, pregnant and nursing mothers and tetracycline-allergic patients. Second line of topical therapy could be erythromycin, clindamycin, azalaic acid or sulfur preparations.
Avatar m tn It is treated in a similar manner to acne vulgaris with tetracycline antibiotics or erythromycin but, without the use of topical steroids. Recently, photodynamic therapy (PDT) has been reported to be helpful, although large studies have not yet been performed. Let us know if you need any other information. Regards.
Avatar n tn Since you feel the lesions are worsening, you either need to stop the application of Azelaic acid or supplement it with oral anti-biotic like (tetracycline, doxycycline, minocycline) which is the first line of treatment for Rosacea. Ref:http://en.wikipedia.
Avatar m tn According to most websites tetracycline is part of the penicillin family and is also used gonorrhoea, syphilis and chlamydia. I just wanted to check this is true?
Avatar f tn As with tetracycline used to treat acne it takes up to six months to bring rosacea under control and many stay on low dose for years.
2121656 tn?1395674749 Dr. Schiano, Good Morning! I'm still worried about my high liver enzymes, and doing research. It dawned on me, I was on a 10 day dosage of Bactrim back in March. Two days after finishing the Bactrim, is when I went for my 3 month blood test & those results were my first indication of high ALT 59. I then was put on Tetracycline in April, but wasn't able to finish the RX due to side effects. Could these be the possible cause of my high liver Enzymes still in 7/2012?
Avatar m tn Alternatively, the situation you describe, as well as the rash suggests a form or tetracycline (doxycycline is a member of the tetracycline family) allergy called a fixed drug eruption. If this is what is going on, it will continue to fade but will recur if you take tetracycline family medications (tetracycline, doxycycline and minocycline). You lack of recent sexual activity, as well as the description make it unlikely this is a sign of genital warts or HPV infection.
Avatar n tn For people with more severe cases, doctors often prescribe an oral (taken by mouth) antibiotic. Tetracycline, minocycline, erythromycin, and doxycycline are the most common antibiotics used to treat rosacea. Some people respond quickly, while others require long-term therapy. Isotretinoin may be considered as a treatment option for all forms of severe or therapy-resistant rosacea.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with a steriod induced rosacea, my question is this, will there be continual break outs while on treatment? I've been on treatment for a little over 2 weeks and it seems as if my face is getting bad again. It has not completly cleared up but is about 75% better then what it was before I was diagnosed. I am no longer on the steroid, off for 2 weeks now but am having "acne" if you will, breaking out still.
Avatar m tn I start to take it 3 days before my STD test but my doctor said tetracycline is not as effective to kill std's so thats why they dont use it. I used it for acne. I'm just wondering if i should get a new test even if it was negative?
Avatar n tn See your doctor, and get on a prescription for an antibiotic, tetracycline, doxycycline or the like are often used for skin issues like this. It takes a little while on the antibiotic, but after a while (if you take your antibiotic regularly) it will heal and then you can just use a Retin A ointment on your skin and it will prevent more of those from happening.
Avatar f tn Can someone tell me what STDs can be treated with Doxycycline? Can you list all of them please? Thank you.
Avatar f tn I have horrible acne and was prescribed doxycycline. I take orthrotricyclen, does anyone know if they interfere?
Avatar f tn Isn't tetracycline dangerous during pregnancy???
Avatar m tn Problem started while I was taking minocycline for acne. Went in to student health. NP RXed 10 days doxycycline, 100 mg PO BID, sent me to ER. Had an ultrasound, confirmed it was epididymitis plus a hydrocele. They gave me a shot of ceftriaxone and told me to continue with the doxycycline. The ceftriaxone helped a great deal (swelling went down almost immediately) but as I continued the course of doxy the problem began to get worse again. I followed up with a urologist.
Avatar f tn I recently read about a genetic test called AcneDX that tests whether or not oral antibiotics will be an effective acne treatment. My teenaged daughter has moderate acne and tetracycline has been suggested. I'm concerned about giving her a medication that may have side effects and produce an antibiotic resistance later in her life, and it may not even work to clear her acne up. The test sounds like a great way to find out prior to treatment if the antibiotics will help.
Avatar n tn thank you so much for responding. i was given this monocyline Hcl 100mg with cream which has this oleanolic acid formula.is this cream for acne scars or acne?or for both?i have been using both tablet and cream for 20 days.i didn't see much of the change in fadeness of scars or maybe it takes time.please let me know what is this cream exactly for.
Avatar f tn but after my second child (I had developed severe nodulocystic acne while pregnant), my derm. put me on tetracycline and it didn't help at all. . .my mother-in-law is a practicing homeopath in Toronto, and she had advised on some things to do instead (i.e.silica, calendula cream) which also did not work. I eventually went on Accutane - I have VERY mixed feelings about this med - it DID get rid of the acne. . .but the dry skin, dry eyes, bleeding lips, etc. were very painful.
Avatar n tn It all started with my acne. In my senior year of high school I developed acne. Before that I had a really nice complexion. I believe my acne came from stress, which I still suffer from on occasion, but not as bad as before. When my acne got worst my mom took me to a clinic and they prescribed the antibiotic "Tetracycline". The minute I started to take it that's when I developed my gastrointestinal problems.
