Walking pneumonia can take a lot out of you (especially since it sounds like this pneumonia has been fairly resistant). The pneumonia may resolve with the doxycycline, but it can still take you a few weeks to feel better. I suggest that you take you medication as prescribed, get plenty of rest, drink lots of fluids and give yourself some time to heal. When you finish your doxycycline, be sure to see your doctor again so that he/she can make sure that the pneumonia is gone. Good luck.

I was interested in the discussion about benign intracranial hypertension and doxycycline. I was put on doxy 2 years ago for my skin. I'm a distance runner and also an asthmatic and have a very high pain threshold and discomfort tolerance, but over time I noticed I was struggling more and more with various things - going up hill was a struggle and began to give me that same sensation you can get when flying.
i have been showing signs of pneumonia lately and also felt a small bum under my armpit but cannot see anything. what i want to know is can the axillary lymph node be linked to pneumonia because usually i hear it swells in the neck? i also was using doxycycline 100 mg and septra for chlamydia. its kinda strange how pneumonia just popped up a while after my chlamydia and cleared up. i am really freaking out im going for a test today.
I was diagnosed with walking pneumonia two weeks ago. I was given Z Pack. I took it. It seemed to work for a couple of days then the symptoms returned. Doctor gave me another Z Pack. Same thing. It worked for a couple of days and then the mychoplasma returned.
Question 1: Why did Z pack not get rid of it?
Question 2: I'm on Doxycycline now. Will that get rid of it?
I'm terrified to even get out of bed for fear that I will relapse again. I want my life back. Please help.
I have been on doxycycline an antibiotic for about 5 days and i seem to be feeling very anxious and panic like. Does anyone know if this can cause these symptoms. I am also on 25mg of zoloft. Thanks for any help you can give me.

I'm still suffering from a viral infection which gave me typical cold symptoms with pain in my right shoulder and neck , a swollen sore throat and a productive chesty cough. After two weeks I was prescribed, over the phone, Doxycycline antibiotics which haven't helped. It's been three weeks now and I'm still coughing up mucus and have been told I have infection in the base of my lungs. I couldn't say if the mucus was clear or had blood in it as I'd been swallowing it.
I have been sick since mid November with acute brohnchitis. Here it is almost January and I am no better. Deep cough with greenish phlegm, chills, fatigue, body aches. No fever at all, and have been on doxycycline and levaquin, with a cough syrup at night. I'm having a lot of chest pain when breathing. Is this still brohncitis? The doctor said my lungs were clear, but I'm not so sure. I can feel myself breathing in and out mucous.
It might be, it does seem a little light but it could clear a STD up if you had it. Best thing is always wait for tests. And I think this is why the Dr went light on the dosage.
I have been a very "sickly" person the last 20 years or so. Constant bouts of pneumonia and bronchitis as well as mystery hives and infections on even the smallest paper cut. After sinus surgery I developed a Pseudomonas aeruginosa infection that seems to have colonized in my sinus'. I have a great number of environmental allergies and have learned that I am allergic to Keflex and sulfa drugs/antibiotics.

"Adults: 200 mg bid [meaning twice a day] with food; doses of up to 600 mg daily are often needed, as doxycycline is only effective at high blood levels." So perhaps your doc's doses are on the light side -- I'd ask him, but sometimes docs get huffy. I'd ask him anyway. It's your health we're talking about.

I smoked for 9 years and I quit 5 years ago
Went to the ER about 6 weeks ago with severe back pain that went to my chest. At the time, no other symptoms.
Had a chest x-ray that showed abnormalities so they did a CT scan of my chest. Suspected pneumonia with lymph nodes swollen in my chest and one in my upper abdominal area. Negative for nodularity. Was given 10 day course of Doxycycline. Was told to follow up because of lymph nodes.
I got better for 2 days, then spiked a fever and got sick all over again with pneumonia (confirmed with chest xray). I was given a breathing treatment and put on doxycycline, which made me very sick to my stomach. I was switched to Omnicef and Symbicort and take Zofran as needed for nausea, and tolerate those fine. I've been on antibiotics since last Weds 10/28. I started feeling a little better and my fever went down on Fri.

Following double lung pneumonia with sepsis, was diagnose HASHI's, hypo. Have more than 10 nodules, several over 1.7 cms. Synthroid helped tremendously with fatigue, cold hands/legs, tingling down upper thighs, however choking at night will wake me from sleep. Flare ups bring on sweating, cold hands/feet, brain fog. Adjust my meds and wait till it happens again, repeat. Wouldn't it be better to get a thyroidectomy to put antibodies into remission?
The vet prescribed doxycycline 100 mg twice a day for 3 weeks. My dog seems fine without any obvious symptoms. Can we just give him the doxycycline 100mg once a day instead because the medication may cause nausea/vomiting. Also after 3 weeks medication, how do you he is treated ? Any advice !
I have been diagnosed with folliculitis, and have been prescribed Doxycycline. I have been taking it now for almost two months and I have gained 10lbs very quick. I am still very active and have done nothing different as far as my diet goes. Is this a possible side effect of the antibiotic.
I have kept him away from other dogs to avoid getting them sick. The vet diagnosed him with kennel cough and put him on Doxycycline 100 mg - he takes 1 1/2 pills twice a day. Problem started while I was taking minocycline for acne. Went in to student health. NP RXed 10 days doxycycline, 100 mg PO BID, sent me to ER. Had an ultrasound, confirmed it was epididymitis plus a hydrocele. They gave me a shot of ceftriaxone and told me to continue with the doxycycline. The ceftriaxone helped a great deal (swelling went down almost immediately) but as I continued the course of doxy the problem began to get worse again.
I followed up with a urologist.
Urologist put me on 10 days of Doxycycline. I took the complete dosage and the day after my last dose, when I masturbated, my semen was thick, and yellow. Almost like mucus.
Is this a normal side effect of the medication ?
She put me on it due to urethritis and what she felt was prostatitis...
It just seemed strange the thickness and color but I know medications can do things like that.

I had mycoplasma pneumonia and was treated in hospital with iv antibiotics and oxygen after christmas til new year. Upon release I developed a post infection wheeze which was treated with 7 days of prednisolone. My O2 sats are 99 and blood pressure etc normal - x ray showed normal with no pneumonia. However, I am troubled with chest pain which is there all the time but worse through the night and when I wake in the morning. paracetamol does not seem to help much.

Zpack works differently for different illnesses. Years of studies have shown the best treatment for chlamydia is 1g taken at once. That doesn't mean that a higher dosage won’t work, it’s just proven not to be as effective.
