Alcohol does not effect the effectiveness of the majority of antibiotics. However, antibiotics within the tetracycline group, including doxycycline, are hindered by alcohol. If alcohol is consumed while taking a tetraycycline antibiotic, the antibiotic may prove to be less effective at treating the bacteria or virus.
I had sex with my girlfriend within the time frame of me receiving oral and feeling the onset of symptoms I then went into a walk-in clinic where the physician diagnosed me with doxycycline for 7 days. I felt as if they were working and by the end of the 7 days felt normal. About 5 days later I felt the pain in my restocked, groin, lower abdomen and lower back return.
I am visiting Laos/Thailand in Jan 2011 and I have been advised to take anti-malaria tablets while there called Doxycycline.
Does anyone know if there is any interaction between these two drugs? Can it make one or the other not work as effectively?

What exactly has caused the lymph nodes to swell can be judged only by clinical examination and investigations like allergy testing to doxycycline,FNAC lymph nodes etc.

I am prescribed xanax for anxiety (recently for anxiety and panic attacks) and I got doxycycline hyclate for a sinus infection yesterday from a small clinic. I completely forgot to ask if there was an interaction between these two drugs. I may not even have to take the xanax, only if I have a panic attack will I. Alcohol and antidepressants should not be mixed. I'm sure you already know this. Many of these meds go through the liver and so does alcohol. Are you feeling alright? Have you been feeling sick?

I will however agree with you that the days after having fun and drinking copious amounts of alcohol can leave you feeling down and anxious. I suffer with anxiety, so when I drink, i'm miserable for typically a few days afterwards. So while drinking may seem like fun while you're enjoying your night, just remember how you're going to feel the following day. I also think depending on how much you drink, you definitely will experience negative reactions.
