1142540 tn?1261368153 Hundreds of people have blogged and complained about how the acne drug; Doryx, is linked to losing huge amounts of hair on the scalp. I'm experiencing the same problem. had very thick coarse and pretty hair. Now it's becoming thin stringy and nappy. I am freaking out big time and really sad. I'm 22 years old and my dermatologist has had me on this drug for a couple years and at first this did not happen, now it comes out in clumps and I shed everywhere.
Avatar n tn I am 32 years old and have been prescribed Doryx and a topical acne medication for slight facial and back acne. I have been taking the medication 5-6 weeks and for the past week or so I am noticying hair loss. (roughly double the normal amount of hair I would loose in a day.) My hair is noticably thinning. Could this be a side effect of the medication I am taking? Has anyone else experienced this? On a side note, my skin is now completely clear.
Avatar f tn You condition is very difficult to control. You really need to do lid hygiene and periodically use a topical antibiotic (Azasite works well). You may now have a chalazion. This can slowly decrease in size without surgery. However, the chance for this is better with control of the blepharitis. Dr. O.
Avatar m tn I decided to self medicate with 150 mg Doryx twice a day that I had at the house. Been taking for about six days now. The discomfort just started to go away today on the sixth day. Here are my questions: 1.What are my chances that I caught something and what? 2. Could I have gave it to my wife? 3. Will the Doryx clear up anything I could have caught? 4. How long should I keep taking it? 5.
Avatar n tn I started taking Doryx 250 mg as prescribed by me derm around oct 16...the first week was fine but then I noticed the 2nd week I was losing double the amount of hair in the shower. These weren't even new hairs, but complete long strands were falling off and i've never experience that before. I nearly had a heart attack! I've currently been off the medication for almost a month now and the im still losing more hair than I used to.
Avatar m tn I performed oral sex on my wife about a week after but there has been no other sexual contact with her. I decided to self medicate with 150 mg Doryx twice a day that I had at the house.
Avatar f tn I was dx'd (very surprised about this) with Rosacea and given Oracea 40 mg to take once a day. By day 8, my intestines were saying 'no way'. My derm's P/A said to stop the med. What are my options. I've made a follow up with my derm, who is only in the area a few times a week, and would like to be prepared to help make decisions. My concern is my nose. I had pointed out to him, during my full body check, some pinkie tip sized indentations on my nose.
Avatar n tn A few years ago I had a horrible case of acne and was put on the Doryx pill for 3 weeks, wash with Brevoxyl 2x day, morning Tazorac topical and evening Duac topical. This combination cleared up all of my acne and dark spots in a month !!! So after two months I weened myself off of the topicals. Everything was fine. About 2 years later, I had another bad breakout. I have really oily skin, lots of white and blackheads and acne scarring (dark spots) resulted from these pimples.
Avatar m tn I've been prescribed Keflex, Bactrim, and now Doryx. Still won't go away. I don't go out anymore because of this condition. I don't know what I would do if I met a really cool girl. Oh wait, I'd probably just walk right past her and look the other way, even if she tried to talk to me. This condition is so embarrassing. I've taken about 16/30 of the Doryx medication (Qty. is 30) The marks don't seem to be going away.
Avatar m tn After taking a quick look, he was pretty convinced it was some form of yeast, gave me Ketoconazole cream and 30 days of Oracea. I applied the cream in the morning and before bed, and did 40mg of Oracea. At the end of the month, there was zero difference, the skin around the corners of my nose still looks red (exactly like the pictures in the first post). Still seeking help! Somebody out there must have had this problem and found a cure!
Avatar m tn The steroid in Tobradex may help short term, but this is not a long-term solution. Oracea is a slow release form of Doxy type drug and has less side effects. However, many insurances will not cover it. Topical Azasite if very effective. Dr. O.
Avatar m tn Hello, I planned on getting STD tested in a few weeks but just completed a ZPACK (azithromycin) for a sinus infection and my dermatologist has put me on 100 mg doryx (doxycycline) for acne. Other then the HIV test should I go ahead and get tested for gono, syph, chla? The reason I ask is that from what I am reading on this forum, often times those antibiotics would clear up those infections. Thank you. This has been a very helpful and informative forum.
Avatar m tn The doctor deemed it as a possible UTI and I was on a regimen of Doryx 150mg qd X 14d. I abstained from any sex for the duration of treatment. The burning had long subsided and I engaged in intercourse with my partner, who 2 days later found out she tested positive for chlamydia. I had been off of the Doryx for about a week when I found this out and went straight back to the doctor to receive treatment for chlamydia infection. I was treated this time with doxycycline 100mg bid X 7d.
Avatar n tn I am a firm believer in Masturbation, 20 years ago I had a very severe bout of Prostatitis, I was on an antibiotic called Doryx for about nine months, my doctor sent me to a Urologist for a finger in the rectum exam, at that stage my prostate was not in real good condition.
Avatar m tn (Note) I am also taking an antibiotic from my Dermatologist since March (Doryx) for my acne, and I remember the medicine causing somewhat stomach uneasiness, so is that maybe the cause? Please help me I'm terrified!!!
Avatar m tn I'm not sure why, but lately my penis has been having a fishy odor. I am not sexually active, I'm 19 years old, and I clean it regularly. I shower every day and make sure it is well-washed with soap and water, but it still smells that way after cleaning. There is no rash or irritation at all. It is not semen or pre-ejaculatory fluid related. It always smells this way for the past week now.
Avatar m tn Doryx is easier on the stomach than generic doxy. Its release is slower too. VERY EXPENSIVE!
493068 tn?1224765315 I should have said I see a dermotologist and take Oracea. It is my eyes that this pain is just more than I can handle. I take the 50 mg. of Doxycycline, Erythromycin Ointment at night and during days of extreme pain. I also use Travatan and use Restasis. and yesterday the opthamologist doctor put me on Lotemax. I can see some better today but still have full blown rosacea in both eyes...To live with pain in your eyes you can not escape it. Do you know of anything we are missing?
Avatar m tn i only go to the pharmacy and ask for the best medicine and they give me a generic medicine name doxylag. after 3 days the intense itching is lost. i take doryx for 1month now. and now i feel a little itching in the skin of my pubic hair. my question are.. 1) What are the long term side effects of doxycycline? 2) Do the bacteria are wash out? 2) After my 1month cycle of doxycycline im now free in any disease? 3) When can is the best time to notice the "white stuff"?
Avatar m tn It is a prescription. You can also try low dose Doxycycline. It is call ORACEA but I think there is a generic now. I read that it won't cause resistant bacteria but I prefer to use Finacea since it is not an antibiotic. It does sting a bit when you first put it on. It will cause redness but shouldn't cause bumps or pimples though it is a side effect. I have found out my problem is that the new cleanser I have has alcohol in it. That causes problems.
1336893 tn?1275746728 the redness around my nose comes and goes, sometimes it will crust up and go away other times when it comes i try to wash my face or anything i do to it just makes it worse, its also spread out through my mustache sometimes and i finally got the courage to ask a derm spec and they said it was an infection around my nose and mouth so she prescribed a topical cream called PROMISEH, and some antibiotics called DORYX. i take them and they do nothing .
Avatar m tn I am now on Oracea daily and Biafine. I have been off of the steroid cream for about 3 months now. I am desperate. I'm starting to think my blood vessels may have suffered permanent damage in my neck. Is this hopeless? Will the blood vessels eventually go back to normal so my neck will no longer be red?
Avatar n tn Hi everyone, I was diagnosed with HS about two years ago. It started as a few small pimples on my thighs and then under my armpits that eventually turned into nasty, inflamed, infected boils. This went on and off for a few months. My dermatologist injected corisone directly into the boils/bumps and put me on doxycycline, then oracea for about six months total.
