doryx

1142540 tn?1261368153 Hundreds of people have blogged and complained about how the acne drug; Doryx, is linked to losing huge amounts of hair on the scalp. I'm experiencing the same problem. had very thick coarse and pretty hair. Now it's becoming thin stringy and nappy. I am freaking out big time and really sad. I'm 22 years old and my dermatologist has had me on this drug for a couple years and at first this did not happen, now it comes out in clumps and I shed everywhere.
Avatar n tn I started taking Doryx 250 mg as prescribed by me derm around oct 16...the first week was fine but then I noticed the 2nd week I was losing double the amount of hair in the shower. These weren't even new hairs, but complete long strands were falling off and i've never experience that before. I nearly had a heart attack! I've currently been off the medication for almost a month now and the im still losing more hair than I used to.
Avatar n tn I am 32 years old and have been prescribed Doryx and a topical acne medication for slight facial and back acne. I have been taking the medication 5-6 weeks and for the past week or so I am noticying hair loss. (roughly double the normal amount of hair I would loose in a day.) My hair is noticably thinning. Could this be a side effect of the medication I am taking? Has anyone else experienced this? On a side note, my skin is now completely clear.
Avatar n tn A few years ago I had a horrible case of acne and was put on the Doryx pill for 3 weeks, wash with Brevoxyl 2x day, morning Tazorac topical and evening Duac topical. This combination cleared up all of my acne and dark spots in a month !!! So after two months I weened myself off of the topicals. Everything was fine. About 2 years later, I had another bad breakout. I have really oily skin, lots of white and blackheads and acne scarring (dark spots) resulted from these pimples.
Avatar n tn The treatment that you have been prescribed is correct. If you are having any side effects then get the antibiotics changed and even oral antibiotics can be added. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
Avatar n tn I took roaccutane in my late teens and it cleared up my acne wonderfully for a few years, but then it came back, and worse. My skin is much more sensitive now than it ever was before - rashes all the time.. Also, there have been big 'hoo haas' about whether or not it causes depression. I have also suffered a number of clinical depressions since. The best thing I've found for acne is Brevoxyl (4% benzoyl peroxide). It's a cream, available over the counter.
Avatar n tn However, this and other side effects wore off as my body got used to the medication. I had no side effects, except for dry lips, from 12 weeks onwards and took Accutane for 24 weeks. Side effects are generally dose related. Taking Accutane at the recommended dose for 16 to 24 weeks is your son's best hope of a long term remission from acne. The recommended dose is between 0.5 and 1mg x kg bodyweight per day. So your son should take between 30mg and 60mg per day because he weighs about 60kg.
1138687 tn?1548643978 I have had lyme symptoms for more than two years , i was already taking doxy 100 mg / day since last one month for acne , now i doubled the dose hoping to kill any lyme bacteria.
Avatar f tn Is this documented that Accutane does cause premature epiphyseal closure? If so why is this drug being prescribed and why isn't this on the long list of side effects. My son was on this and he has not grown since, or while taking it. He was just past his 14th birthday when he took it. His acne was severe and it is also now back. It did clear up for a short time. He is only 5, 5. I started typing in about accutane and growth and have come up with a long list of concerncs about growth.
Avatar f tn Continue with the Yaz. This is a good pill for acne-prone skin as it is not based on testosterone like some others. It will take about 3 months until it's effect is visible. An excellent product is Rosaliac micellar gel by La Roche-Posay which is for skin prone to redness. Metrogel is quite strong. It is normal to have an initial outbreak but if your skin does not start to improve or you feel you are having a bad reaction, speek to your doctor about changing products.
1336893 tn?1275746728 For the past year randomly the areas around my nose and close to my mouth and spread out through some of my beard i get these bumps and redness.
Avatar m tn Hello, I planned on getting STD tested in a few weeks but just completed a ZPACK (azithromycin) for a sinus infection and my dermatologist has put me on 100 mg doryx (doxycycline) for acne. Other then the HIV test should I go ahead and get tested for gono, syph, chla? The reason I ask is that from what I am reading on this forum, often times those antibiotics would clear up those infections. Thank you. This has been a very helpful and informative forum.
Avatar f tn ) Also, like DaliaP, I have been reluctant to fill a prescription for Minocycline and Differin which were prescribed by our family physician for our 14 year old son. When I searched for side effects, they definitely caused some concern. Are the side-effects common? How do you know if the benefits outweigh the risks? We have tried over the counter products containing benzoyl peroxide and/or salicyclic acid, and sulfur. They seem to have made his acne worse.
Avatar f tn I have to take it for first time tonight! Scared of side effects! Just found out I have pcos n I'm havin hard time understandin it! I have been dealin with a lot of stress an now this!!!
Avatar n tn Although antibiotics are relatively safe drugs, as stated, there are some side effects. These side effects could potentially become exacerbated if a person ingests alcohol when taking antibiotics. Furthermore, the mixture of both antibiotics and alcohol can also have some additional negative effects on the body. Alcohol and the Effectiveness of Antibiotics Alcohol does not effect the effectiveness of the majority of antibiotics.
Avatar m tn Accutance did clear my acne for only few months...but now i still have acne and these weird side effects....almost destroy my life... I dont know what i have to do now... the doctor you put me on on accutance, seem doesn't care... when i told him...so i hope Doctors on Medhelp can kindly help me do something....maybe finally i figure out why Accutance make people have suicidal thought because these side effects my feel dont want to live any more.... not the med itself .
Avatar n tn I am so worried about him being on this medication. There are so many reported side effects with this, I wonder what the percentage of people experience these side effects. Why would his back be hurting. What exactly is the Claravis doing to his back? This discussion is related to Accutane- side effect - joint ache.
Avatar n tn Ablify does cause acne, its the lesser of the side effects but it has been proven to cause acne. Anxiety, headaches, and insomnia are among the common side effects reported with Abilify. Side effects that are not as common include hemorrhoids, gas, and ACNE. Certain side effects are more serious and should be reported to your healthcare provider. These can include feelings of restlessness or jitteriness, high blood pressure, or abnormal muscle movements.
Avatar m tn but then i started on cephlexin oral 500 mg...was on it for 20 days...it was almost gone...was happy for a few days...then i ran out of medication and my doc. perscribed doxycycl...and it began to slowly come back...i told him this.. but hes like theres nothing i can do for you...as i was schedualed to see a dermatologist...the derm says i have folliculitus caused by staph...and there is not be.migh guessing at what it cure only treatment...
Avatar n tn I get it on my chest, back and face I have went to a derm since I was 18 but it never seemed to really help and I felt like since my acne was mild they never really cared. When I get acne it lasts for multiple weeks or months which is why its so agonizing especially cause afterwards I am left with post acne marks that can last up to a year. It has totally messed up my self confidence and has made me totally insecure.
Avatar m tn what are the side effects of prolonged intake of minolox 50 mg. ive been taking this for 15 months now without doctor s prescription. it works well to prevent the acne growth in my back , face and head.
Avatar m tn I do have very sensitive skin. I get a bit of acne occassionally, but didn't have a big problem on Dilantin or Keppra. I recently switched over from Keppra to Lamictal. Lamictal is supposed to have rashes as a side effect. Ironically, my skin has never been smoother. Even the melasma I had on my forehead has disappeared. I didn't think I had a problem before taking it, but definitely notice my skin looks nicer now. Good luck. There has to be something else you can try.
Avatar m tn (Note) I am also taking an antibiotic from my Dermatologist since March (Doryx) for my acne, and I remember the medicine causing somewhat stomach uneasiness, so is that maybe the cause? Please help me I'm terrified!!!
1063764 tn?1272821064 Hey I have been taking Tirosint for 3 months and I have had terrible side effects. I have lost so much more hair, I have broken out in hives, major headaches, memory loss, confusion, major depression, weight gain, on and on. I was taking armor before this and I had a lot less side effects. I felt so much better but the med world doesn't want to support armor for some reason so they fight against us taking it.
Avatar m tn I am at odds end about what to do because I am afraid about having long term, permanent eye problems and other side effects from this drug. I have a few questions: Is it normal to still be breaking out at the beginning of month 5 on accutane? How heavily do you believe that in order to acheive permanent remission that you have to take a high enough cumulative dose based on your body weight because I am not going to come anywhere close to this based on my weight and dose?
