I am 32 years old and have been prescribed Doryx and a topical acne medication for slight facial and back acne. I have been taking the medication 5-6 weeks and for the past week or so I am noticying hair loss. (roughly double the normal amount of hair I would loose in a day.) My hair is noticably thinning. Could this be a side effect of the medication I am taking? Has anyone else experienced this? On a side note, my skin is now completely clear.
I started taking Doryx 250 mg as prescribed by me derm around oct 16...the first week was fine but then I noticed the 2nd week I was losing double the amount of hair in the shower. These weren't even new hairs, but complete long strands were falling off and i've never experience that before. I nearly had a heart attack! I've currently been off the medication for almost a month now and the im still losing more hair than I used to.
A few years ago I had a horrible case of acne and was put on the Doryx pill for 3 weeks, wash with Brevoxyl 2x day, morning Tazorac topical and evening Duac topical. This combination cleared up all of my acne and dark spots in a month !!! So after two months I weened myself off of the topicals. Everything was fine.
About 2 years later, I had another bad breakout. I have really oily skin, lots of white and blackheads and acne scarring (dark spots) resulted from these pimples.
I've been prescribed Keflex, Bactrim, and now Doryx. Still won't go away. I don't go out anymore because of this condition. I don't know what I would do if I met a really cool girl. Oh wait, I'd probably just walk right past her and look the other way, even if she tried to talk to me. This condition is so embarrassing. I've taken about 16/30 of the Doryx medication (Qty. is 30) The marks don't seem to be going away.

I planned on getting STD tested in a few weeks but just completed a ZPACK (azithromycin) for a sinus infection and my dermatologist has put me on 100 mg doryx (doxycycline) for acne. Other then the HIV test should I go ahead and get tested for gono, syph, chla? The reason I ask is that from what I am reading on this forum, often times those antibiotics would clear up those infections.

Continue with the Yaz. This is a good pill for acne-prone skin as it is not based on testosterone like some others. It will take about 3 months until it's effect is visible.
An excellent product is Rosaliac micellar gel by La Roche-Posay which is for skin prone to redness.
Metrogel is quite strong. It is normal to have an initial outbreak but if your skin does not start to improve or you feel you are having a bad reaction, speek to your doctor about changing products.
Anyone get acne after startung thyroid medication? Im on armour thyroid... 30mg. I started it august 6th and broke out within a week but that breakout subsided till a few weeks later i started breaking out again...i concieved 3 weeks after starting the meds so thought it was pregnancy. Then when increasing my dosage in the second trimedter my acnr got way worse. Skin so oily and cystic big ones! Then it calmed down when i decreased back down to 30mg...
The areas start out very much like a hive (red, blotchy, extremely itchy skin), but, unlike hives, end up leaving a red papule with the occasional white center that stick around for days to weeks. Any acne medication takes time to act and it is important to stick to particular regime for significant improvement. You should wash your face with a nonirritating, pH-balanced cleanser to decrease inflammation. Avoid scrubbing the face. Do not pop or pick at pimples. A correct nutritional balance and skin care will be helpful. Drink plenty of water every day. Take 7-8 hours of sleep daily. Have a balanced diet rich in vitamin A, zinc and rich in multivitamins.
I was diagnosed with the same thing and mine wasn't all that noticeable. I had about 6-8 little dots/zits around my mouth and lips. Most people said it looked like I just had a couple zits, but I knew it was something more since I don't get zits like this, especially on my lips. My teenaged daughter has moderate acne and tetracycline has been suggested. I'm concerned about giving her a medication that may have side effects and produce an antibiotic resistance later in her life, and it may not even work to clear her acne up. The test sounds like a great way to find out prior to treatment if the antibiotics will help.

I use Clearasil body wash morning/night. Watch out for acne medication, there are a lot of things you shouldn't use (I think salicylic acid was a no). Rx acne medication can also be dangerous to also fetus (even some topical). Retinol is also also no.
