A few years ago I had a horrible case of acne and was put on the Doryx pill for 3 weeks, wash with Brevoxyl 2x day, morning Tazorac topical and evening Duac topical. This combination cleared up all of my acne and dark spots in a month !!! So after two months I weened myself off of the topicals. Everything was fine.
About 2 years later, I had another bad breakout. I have really oily skin, lots of white and blackheads and acne scarring (dark spots) resulted from these pimples.
I just got through speaking with a friend about her hair loss and she brought to my attention it may be because of Doryx. Since I was taking an acne medication as well and also experiencing hair loss; I decided to check and see what pill I was taking, turns out it was Doryx. This is such a sad situation. My hair was not super long, but had progessively grown and gotten more thick. I can not say the same today.
ve currently been off the medication for almost a month now and the im still losing more hair than I used to. Can anyone tell me whether this is going to stop anytime soon or what the heck is going on. I know this isn't stated in the side effects, and when I talked to my derm he completely dismissed it stating he's never had a case with doryx and hair loss, but after searching the internet and this forum I can see im not the only one!!

I planned on getting STD tested in a few weeks but just completed a ZPACK (azithromycin) for a sinus infection and my dermatologist has put me on 100 mg doryx (doxycycline) for acne. Other then the HIV test should I go ahead and get tested for gono, syph, chla? The reason I ask is that from what I am reading on this forum, often times those antibiotics would clear up those infections.

it started as what i thought was an out break of acne on my face...my forehead to be exact...then it went to the sides of my face and down my neck and to my chest and back...it was attempting to go down my arms...but then i started on cephlexin oral 500 mg...was on it for 20 days...it was almost gone...was happy for a few days...then i ran out of medication and my doc. perscribed doxycycl...and it began to slowly come back...i told him this.. but hes like theres nothing i can do for you...
The areas start out very much like a hive (red, blotchy, extremely itchy skin), but, unlike hives, end up leaving a red papule with the occasional white center that stick around for days to weeks. To provide some context, this all started after seeking treatment for mild acne (whiteheads on my forehead and extremely oily skin) about 3 years ago. The dermatologist I saw then prescribed Ziana gel, which worked relatively well (never completely cleared the whitehead problem, though it helped).
I was wondering if you have any successful treatments since your post? My bf is suffering from the same thing and he has tried all the same treatments and lupus diagnosis. Now the dermatologist wants to the let the rash run its course because he doesn't want to continue to prescribe prednisone anymore.
This time she gave me low amount of vitamin e cream and sensitive cream for me to apply on my face. Few days later, I noticed there is a bigger pore due to the acne extraction. Also my left and right cheek became inflamed and flaky. Am I being cheated by them? Should I go back to ask for clarification? Or go to see dermatologist?

The first step is to figure out what kind of acne you have. How old are you?
What is your skin type? Oily? Dry? Sensitive? Is it flaky?

Hello, my question relates to perioral dermatitis. I have just been diagnosed, and my POD is at a medium level intensity because I abruptly quit my topical steroid cream (which im positive is the cause of all this).
I have been prescribed 21 days of doxycycline at 100mg and metronidazole 0.75%. I'm wondering if this will be enough to clear my POD? I know it usually takes quite a while to clear and this seems like not enough?

Any acne medication takes time to act and it is important to stick to particular regime for significant improvement. You should wash your face with a nonirritating, pH-balanced cleanser to decrease inflammation. Avoid scrubbing the face. Do not pop or pick at pimples. A correct nutritional balance and skin care will be helpful. Drink plenty of water every day. Take 7-8 hours of sleep daily. Have a balanced diet rich in vitamin A, zinc and rich in multivitamins.
