Common Questions and Answers about Is doryx used for acne

doryx

Avatar n tn A few years ago I had a horrible case of acne and was put on the Doryx pill for 3 weeks, wash with Brevoxyl 2x day, morning Tazorac topical and evening Duac topical. This combination cleared up all of my acne and dark spots in a month !!! So after two months I weened myself off of the topicals. Everything was fine. About 2 years later, I had another bad breakout. I have really oily skin, lots of white and blackheads and acne scarring (dark spots) resulted from these pimples.
Avatar n tn ve currently been off the medication for almost a month now and the im still losing more hair than I used to. Can anyone tell me whether this is going to stop anytime soon or what the heck is going on. I know this isn't stated in the side effects, and when I talked to my derm he completely dismissed it stating he's never had a case with doryx and hair loss, but after searching the internet and this forum I can see im not the only one!!
Avatar n tn s not noticeable that I have a huge patch of hair missing on the back of head but what ***** is that I know it is there. I stopped taking Doryx too but sadden that my severe acne is returning. Have you found any answers or alternatives?
Avatar m tn (Note) I am also taking an antibiotic from my Dermatologist since March (Doryx) for my acne, and I remember the medicine causing somewhat stomach uneasiness, so is that maybe the cause? Please help me I'm terrified!!!
Avatar m tn Hello, I planned on getting STD tested in a few weeks but just completed a ZPACK (azithromycin) for a sinus infection and my dermatologist has put me on 100 mg doryx (doxycycline) for acne. Other then the HIV test should I go ahead and get tested for gono, syph, chla? The reason I ask is that from what I am reading on this forum, often times those antibiotics would clear up those infections. Thank you. This has been a very helpful and informative forum.
Avatar f tn Continue with the Yaz. This is a good pill for acne-prone skin as it is not based on testosterone like some others. It will take about 3 months until it's effect is visible. An excellent product is Rosaliac micellar gel by La Roche-Posay which is for skin prone to redness. Metrogel is quite strong. It is normal to have an initial outbreak but if your skin does not start to improve or you feel you are having a bad reaction, speek to your doctor about changing products.
Avatar m tn I've been prescribed Keflex, Bactrim, and now Doryx. Still won't go away. I don't go out anymore because of this condition. I don't know what I would do if I met a really cool girl. Oh wait, I'd probably just walk right past her and look the other way, even if she tried to talk to me. This condition is so embarrassing. I've taken about 16/30 of the Doryx medication (Qty. is 30) The marks don't seem to be going away.
Avatar m tn The areas start out very much like a hive (red, blotchy, extremely itchy skin), but, unlike hives, end up leaving a red papule with the occasional white center that stick around for days to weeks. To provide some context, this all started after seeking treatment for mild acne (whiteheads on my forehead and extremely oily skin) about 3 years ago. The dermatologist I saw then prescribed Ziana gel, which worked relatively well (never completely cleared the whitehead problem, though it helped).
Avatar n tn Perioral dermatitis like acne is a chronic papulopustular and eczematous facial dermatitis. It mostly effects women and appear around the nose, mouth and eyes. Treatment consists of oral antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs. A mild soap or soap substitute, such as Dove or Cetaphil should be used for washing. Scrubbing should be avoided. Doxycycline is the preferred antibiotic for perioral dermatitis but minocycline can also be used.
Avatar n tn m worried about that too. I have been on Doryx for almost two months for acne and wondering if that has anything to do with it. Sorry to ramble on but this is just so frustrating, its preventing me from being social and going out, I just want to have clear skin. I hate how it will go away and come back all the time. Is this perioral Dermatitis? Rosacea? My skin is extremely sensitive and kind of pale so a lot of blemishes are noticable. What is the best line of action for this?

Avatar f tn I have been looking on the internet and I have found doxy is prescribed mostly for acne. So can it also be used for folliculitis? My situation is I took doxy for 11 days and then stopped for 3 days because it seemed to get a lot worse. My pharmacist convined me to go back on it because it takes a while to workand it gets worse before it gets better. Been on it for 24 days again now and it is still pretty bad, not as bad as when I first took it. Is this normal? How long will it take to clear up?
Avatar m tn The doctor at my university said I had a yest infection.( I was on antibotics a lot in august and I just started taking more for my acne) He told me its normal for my skin to tear during a yeast infection and looked at the rashes and the entire penis, then came to the conclusion I had no herpes. He told me to use monostat.
Avatar n tn t Help even proactive made it worst for me. To get rid IF acne is doing nothing. Its the same as baby acne leav the acne!!!
Avatar m tn Hello, If it is molluscum contagious then it is a viral infection and Protopic is used mainly for atopic dermatitis and not for viral infections. Molluscum contagiosum presents as multiple, small, dome-shaped papules, often with a central depression or plug. I suggest you to consult a dermatologist and get it evaluated as treatment for molluscum is different. Treatment includes physical destruction or manual extrusion of the lesions, cryotherapy, and curettage.
Avatar n tn but i still have these permenit bumps on my nose i described way back. i wanted to know is there anything i can do at home for these bumps to finally go away..or is laser resurfacing or any other procedure need to be done. please write back thank you .
Avatar f tn A common treatment for cystic acne is Isotretinoin, which cures most acne in about 90% of patients. In sever cases a course of oral antibiotics are also recommended. After cysts have mostly healed, macules, or "pseudo scars" may form. Macules are red patches of skin, sometimes raised slightly, where cysts used to be, and may resemble cysts in their appearance.
341551 tn?1266980730 i've been using proactive since before i even got pregnant....kept using it all through my pregnancy and i haven't had a problem. it's been doing wonders on my skin. my doc never gave me restrictions on what facial washes i could and could not use so i just kept on using it. it hasn't affected either of my boys as far as we can tell from the u/s and bloodwork.
Avatar m tn Hi there, Any acne medication takes time to act and it is important to stick to particular regime for significant improvement. You should wash your face with a nonirritating, pH-balanced cleanser to decrease inflammation. Avoid scrubbing the face. Do not pop or pick at pimples. A correct nutritional balance and skin care will be helpful. Drink plenty of water every day. Take 7-8 hours of sleep daily. Have a balanced diet rich in vitamin A, zinc and rich in multivitamins.
