Avatar m tn My diabetese medicine was changed from Pioglar + Metformin 500 twice a day to Janumet 50+1000 twice a day in around March 2011. I have since lost about 15 KG and it is still going down @ 1 kg per month. I was happy to reach my ideal weight. However, I do not know how to stop further loss. I am Diabetic, so can not discontinue Metformin. Any suggestion ?
Avatar m tn I went on metformin 1g, no change after three months. went up to two grams and was so nauseus for weeks, changed to janumet 1g. My sugars are still up around 15 every day, and my hand still hasnt stopped twitching. I get it all over my body randomly, but always in my hand. It doesn't hurt but is irritating and my hand is sore from overworking. My dr said this was a diabetes issue but I have never heard of it before among other sufferers, and he just brushes it away when I mention it.
194838 tn?1303428544 Hi, I am taking Glucophage (slow release Metformin) and have just been prescribed Januvia to take also. I have had stomach pains and upset stomach since being on them, the plus side is that I have lost weight so am very happy about that but wondered if anyone else has experienced the stomach pain and if so how long did it take for it to subside. If anyone has any advice etc I would be so grateful.
Avatar n tn My dr. says metformin at both 500 x 2 and 1000 x 2 are both equally ineffeciant for treating diabetes. She highly recommends Janumet 5/500. Gus added this to his and has seen a decline in sugars. I did as well when I was switched.
541196 tn?1293552936 My endocrinolgist ordered a MRI with Contrast on my brain for the possiblity of a prolactin secreeting pituitary tumor or something similar. I am type II diabetic and take Janumet. I think I remember reading in the side effects, warnings and uses pamphlet that there were some tests, proceedures and surgeries which you shouldn't have while on the medication. How long should I be off the medication before and after the MRI? Are there any other things I should consider before the test?
Avatar n tn Plus you could discuss changing meds. BTW There is a combination pill Janumet that c ombines Metformin and Januvia. This may be helpful to you as well.
1441125 tn?1284071885 I just got started on metformin on sept 6, and i was reading that cinnamon helps lower blood sugar also, i was wondering can u take both or should i stick to metformin or just do the cinnamon pills

Avatar f tn overweight and have type 2 diabetes. I take metformin, janumet, caduet and until yesterday diovan. During a stress test yesterday my systolic bp rose to 260 in a very short time (diastolic was elevated but not so greatly). When my BP has been taken several times throughout the year at rest it has been 120/80 (ish). I am not very active but do walk 1-1/2 miles a day at a moderate rate. The cardiologist took me off of diovan and told me to begin 100 mg toprolol (sp?) immediately.

197575 tn?1215532624 Is there a difference between a complex nodule and a complex cystic nodule? I know complex means both solid and cystic. My friend's ultrasound call it a complex cystic nodule. Thanks.
808221 tn?1242744188 I have a question for all of you. I'm on metformin and Janumet meds and I have been having a great deal of gastric distress. Uncontrollable flatulence and gastric reflex especially at night. Is anybody out there taking the same meds having the same problem. I think I need to call my doc. and maybe change meds. By the way my glucose levels have really come down. Last night it was 9, this morning 107.
Avatar f tn Carbs raise blood sugars, simple carbs faster and higher than complex carbs so you want look and follow a low carb diet like Atkins. Use Google to understand the difference between simple and complex carbs. Pay attention to all nutrition labels and read them carefully. Carb sugars are listed in grams under carbohydrates. Every 7 grams equals one heaping tablespoon of table sugar. Use Google to learn about 'hidden sugars in foods'.
541196 tn?1293552936 I have done very well with diet and exercise and for some very strange reason, upon beginning treatment for the pituitary tumor and thyroid medicine, my blood sugars have been in range perfectly and when taking Janumet I actually experience severe low sugars, so I have stopped taking it. My endocrinolgoist does know that I have stopped taking it. My last A1c was 5.5. She asked that I continue testing though.
Avatar f tn Before I was on metformin, I could excercise and diet as much as I liked and it made no difference to my weight. So it has definately helped with weight loss when I put some effort. So it does help with weight loss, but only when you are already trying to lose weight. If that makes sense?
Avatar f tn I thought I had to vomit, but when I intentionally tried to vomit, nothing happened. I have type 2 diabetes and currently take Janumet twice a day. Could this have been low blood sugar, or high blood sugar?
Avatar n tn I went to my computer and looked up bloating, Metformin, afib. All signs pointed to GERD can cause afib. And Metformin can cause gas, bloating, digestive upset. The pieces of the puzzle were put together. I just happened to have gas-x in my bathroom and immediately took 2. Within one hour the gas and bloating were gone and so was the afib. I literally got on my knees and prayed that I was on the right path to health.
1300526 tn?1275771621 Metformin is usually started in small doses at a time. Usually a 500 mg tab once or twice daily. It is then usually increased to 1000 mg twice daily in a few weeks if being tolerated by patient. Metformin is usually instructed to be taken with food or milk due to the GI side effects of diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal bloating....and yes, taste perversion. Your Dr.
209384 tn?1231168306 I take 500mg of Metformin 2X daily. I test in the morning when I get up and before I go to bed. My levels are really good except when I'm menstrating. During this time I don't do anything differently. Read that this can be a problem and should adjust insulin accordingly, but I don't take insulin. Is it normal to take larger doses of Metformin at this time of the month? Is there anything else that can help?
Avatar f tn Importantly, differences between subtype 1a and 1b (by far the most frequently encountered genotype 1 subtypes in clinical practice) include different efficacies of antiviral drugs and different resistance profiles to such drugs. Indeed, several HCV inhibitors appear to have selective activity against different HCV genotype 1 subtypes, both in vitro and in vivo....
