diabetes

Avatar n tn Dear winkster, Actually a diabetic diet is really only what a healthy diet would be for people without diabetes. And fruits are a part of that even though they have sugar it get metabolized like any other carbohydrates.
Avatar f tn Does anyone know of any apps that has a good variety of healthy & nutritious - diet meal ideas/ recipes? Preferably one that gives breakfast, lunch, dinner, & snacks :) thank you!
733939 tn?1231773355 You are on the right track so take a deep breath and hang in there! I disagree with the person who said you are a "half step from being put on insulin". I'm sorry, but it doesn't work that way! For a Type II diabetic the correct step for you and your doctor to take is to start you on some oral medications and help you to learn the right way to eat. I agree with the person who said not to think of it as a diet but as good nutrition. Please don't be afraid to eat!
Avatar f tn Teast before you eat Idealy your BG is under 100 (probably not if your diabetic). Count the carbohydrates in your meal. Eat. test your BG 1 hour, two hours after you eat. You are looking for BG to always be under 140 (BG over 140 causes damage to your body) or less than a 40 Pt rise in BG. If your BG rises more than 40 Pts you eat too many Carbohydrates. Carbohydrates raise BG ALL carbs raise BG whole wheat, brown rice, pasta, most fruit will raise BG.

Avatar f tn I was diagnosed at 40 as a type 1 diabetic and was likewise shocked. I would be happy to answer any questions that I can. I know that it can be very confusing at first. First thing to know is the difference between type 1 and 2. In type 1 the pancreas fails and no Insulin is produced. This does tend to happen at an early age but can happen at any age. Also Type 2 takes years to develope so it usually happens to adults. Thus the referral to Juvenile which I think is misleading.

Avatar m tn Meaning your glucose levels? What about testing at home? What are your prandial [b4 meal] and postprandial [after meal] test results? The human body is constantly changing. What you ate last month, six months ago, or last year that didn't effect your glucose level may today. In your case, you need to test and test often to rule out any foods and liquids contributing to your problem.
Avatar f tn Does anyone else struggle with eating? My life style is hectic and I eat out for most of my meals. I try to choose something that's a bit better off of menus, but it's very difficult. I'm now 32 weeks and am so worried something with be wrong with my baby boy. Has anyone had a diet like this and had a healthy baby. I'm needing some reassurance....
Avatar n tn im needing to find a simple diabetic diet plan. the doctor gave me one but it seems really complicated. does anyone know any good sources for diabetic diet plans?
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed at 28 weeks and really did not want yo inject insulin. I spoke to my doc about it and he said if I can control it with diet I wouldn't have to. Also, if I ran the risk of causing any damage to my baby from it going untreated I told him I would 100% take it. Happy to say I'm 32 weeks on sat and have been at a healthy sugar level (below 7) since Dec 23rd.
Avatar n tn I am a volunteer and a mom of a type 1 diabetic. When it comes to my daughters diet, she eats normal food, the only things that we keep in our house that is sugar free is sodas and crystal light. Our doctor believes we should treat her as a child first and a diabetic second.
Avatar m tn Thanks for your response. If your diabetic and return to normal BG are you technically still diabetic as in are you prone to all the diseases related to diabetes even when you return to normal?
Avatar n tn I have had success limiting carbs to 60 per meal. This not only keeps the readings in non-diabetic territory but leads to significant weight loss; 60 lbs in my case over 12 months.
Avatar f tn Breastfeeding burns an extra 500 calories a day as it is. Dieting is not an option. Eating frequent HEALTHY small meals and snacks is honestly your best bet. If you look on the internet and type in something along the lines of "meal plans for breastfeeding moms" then a whole bunch of info should pop up for you. Example meal and snack menus will also pop up to give you an idea of what and how often you should be eating.
Avatar n tn I am not diabetic, but I have been on the South Beach diet for about 12 weeks, which is a diet that greatly restricts the use of refined sugars (i.e. table sugar, fruit juice, white bread, white pasta, etc.) but encourages the use of complex carbohydrates, such a beans, whole wheat/grain products, starchy vegetables, etc. I eat small meals about every 2-4 hours. I have lost 25 pounds so far.
Avatar n tn t giving you the support you need to learn how to manage your diabetes, then you are right and you need to seek a different doctor, nurse practitioner or diabetic educator. You need someone to help you find the diet and exercise regime that works for you; we are all different, some people prefer to follow a set diet with mealplans and menus, Others (like me) prefer general guidelines that I can follow and find what works best for me.
Avatar n tn Thank you for your comment. I should have provided more info but wanted to keep it brief. My weight is good and I do exercise - walking is what I love. There is a history of Type 11 on both sides of my family and I did have gestational diabetes back 40 years ago. And no obesity in family either. About 30 years ago, my mother insisted I be checked for diabetes, given the history.
Avatar m tn Hello, your numbers are higher than they should be for sure. Maybe time to see your doctor and get a hba1c done. Depending on those results, likely higher than normal, you will be officially diagnosed. Irrespective, assuming type 2 diabetes, the treatment will be losing weight if overweight, cutting carbs (particularly sugar, grains, starches - look into low carb / ketogenic diet), exercise, and medications if the previous lifestyle approaches are not sufficient. You can do this.
Avatar n tn For the diabetic, the goal is of course to keep the sugars low, also, but it is more difficult for the diabetic to attain after-meal sugars of 120. The teams of doctors who worked with me aimed for after-meal sugars of under 150 for a type 1 diabetic, and, frankly, they did not find too many women who were able to manage this on a regular basis without risking severe hypoglycemic episdodes at times. I would put my fears aside and keep aiming for these numbers.
Avatar f tn org to find a Registered Dietitian (RD) in your area that will help you with a diabetic diet meal plan or contact a Diabetic Center where you live for help. Thank you for your question.
