Avatar n tn It is also a new practice (Joslin diabetes center - one of the world'sleading diabetes management and research centres) to start all persons with diabetes on insulin instead of oral meds. Glipizide is a drug that makes your pancreas put out more insulin so it can cause lows. It can also make your pancreas burn out faster. So do research this and consider stopping this drug (in coordination with your Dr.) Metformin does not have this effect. So you can ask your Dr.

1536858 tn?1292589149 Solid advice from mammo. Run as fast as you can from this looney nurse. Anyone who says not to test is ignorant about diabetes control and management. Her title says it all "Practice". Find a diabetes nurse or better yet an Endocrinologist, a doctor who specializes in diabetes care. He/she can refer a diabetes nurse to you. Keep trying until you find one that listens to you and cares about your well being. Your 6.7 mmol/l is considered prediabetes; 7.0 enters diabetes land; 10.

If you decide not to change, diabetes becomes a progressive disease only getting worse over time ending with neurothapy and amptutation. You and only you can control and manage this disease. Avatar f tn Dear Friends, I have very much enjoyed my time on Medhelp and have learned from you even while hosting our Ask-A-Doctor forum for Diabetes. Sadly I am leaving the Medhelp community as my own practice has become busier and time constraints have proved quite challenging. So from April 7th 2008 I will be officially away from Medhelp, but you can still find me at our practice website www.endocrinehelp.com, so please drop me a line if you wish.

1281603 tn?1283798699 I would like to add to that advice that diabetic complications are very real and to encourage everyone diagnosed with either form of diabetes or even pre-diabetes to take responsibility to monitor and control your blood sugars on a daily basis. We tend to trust doctors to keep us well and especially here in the U.S. we rely on medication for EVERYTHING. No doctor can follow us around 24/7 and make sure we eat right, exercise, maintain healthy weight and take the meds they actually prescribe.

Avatar n tn Go to the nearest ER. The doctor should look at the wound, treat it, then run tests to check for parasites. He/she should also start your bf on antibiotics. As troy stated, this is a diabetic forum. I replied because years ago I got a parasite infection from a nick while in CR.

Avatar n tn Since my doctor has not been following my diabetes, today I used a Health Screening site to check my A1C and paid for it out of my own pocket instead of using my insurance. It's been almost a year since the doctor felt it necessary to check it. It is 8.0. The only diabetes related problem I'm aware of having is a fairly high amount of protein lost in the urine.

739242 tn?1234217827 I live in a city with mediocre medical care, and want to find the best doctors in the country for this. Any suggestions? I cannot imagine living like this, nor do I believe it is "normal" as the cardiologist here says. It might be common, but that doesn't make it "normal". Normal is how I felt a month ago. I want my life back.
Avatar f tn Google searching is not providing us enough resources, any suggestions or information of hospitals or care options would be great appreciated
Avatar f tn s age, but reasons could include diabetes with uncontrolled glucose, onset of nuclear cataracts, and degenerative myopia with progressive axial growth of the eye and retinal degeneration. My endo is really pushing to put me on medication in case (and I stress the words "in case") I may get Kidney Disease. I have no signs of it or have it now. My Kidneys are healthy.
