Avatar n tn It is also a new practice (Joslin diabetes center - one of the world'sleading diabetes management and research centres) to start all persons with diabetes on insulin instead of oral meds. Glipizide is a drug that makes your pancreas put out more insulin so it can cause lows. It can also make your pancreas burn out faster. Avatar m tn "i checked my sugar, 4 hours after dinner and its 297" Testing blood sugar four hours after a meal exceeds the postprandial testing time, should be between 2-3 hours maximum. If you had results of 297 mg/dl it's highly likely your postprandial was way higher than this and very dangerous level to be at. So, if you're thinking what should I do beside pop Victoza read on. Diabetes certainly can be progressive, but only if you let it progress to your ruin.
Avatar m tn My understanding of diabetes nutrition is that there are general guidelines, but no one right way. It is not rigid like "eat three servings of this at this time". Within the general guidelines of healthy eating you need to see what works for you. To me, the best way to do that is "test, test, test". When I was first diagnosed I was "required" to test two times: first thing in the morning and two hours after breakfast. But I tested more..
Avatar m tn Hi..my mum has liver cirrhosis for the past 30 years and she also has Diabetes Type 2. Our Local MO has recommended Galvus 50mg for diabetes medication. However, after further reading on the net I found that Galvus 50mg is not for liver patients.. the problem is I can't seem to find any suitable medication for her diabetes which would NOT effect her liver condition. I welcome any suggestion or recommendation from members and medical practitioners here please..

Avatar f tn My 2 cents worth on diets; What your husbands must do is follow diabetes nutritional guidelines, aka proper nutrition. Proper nutrition means to accentuate the positive when it comes to food. I dislike the word diet. “Diet” implies a rigorous, self-sacrificial discipline that’s doomed to fail. Instead, focus on achieving food goals of what you should eat each day rather than what you shouldn’t eat.

It started around 5 1/2 weeks. Around that time she tested her blood sugar levels at home and her numbers were around 280. I know for about a week they were pretty high, centering around that number. Now she is 7 1/2 weeks along and her numbers are around 125. That is all controlled from her diet.
Avatar n tn t fast (have not eaten for 8 hours or more), you must had a random glucose test done. they do have guidelines to tell what number is high. if your glucose level came up to be a bit above normal then you might be considered prediabetic. prediabetes means you you have a chance of being diabetic if you didn't change your eating habits, exercise and so on. If you start to incorporate healthy lifestyles, then you would have a chance of being normal again. hope this helps!
Avatar n tn A reading of 6.5 or higher is considered diabetes. Hope this helps. You seem fine by these guidelines.
