Depo provera side effects after use

Common Questions and Answers about Depo provera side effects after use

depo-provera

Avatar n tn Then I was diagnosed with osteopenia, hypothyroidism, Hashimoto's thyroiditis, and NOW depo-induced menopause. Are they all related to depo-provera use? I was taking it for 5 years. In what order do I treat this set of disorders? Why is my jaw the primary target? Will the bone loss stop, reverse? My endocrinologist said I should be taking hormone-replacement therapy, but that's what started me on this road to begin with! Help! I really don't want to have menopause twice. Any suggestions?

Avatar f tn I had used Depo for 3 years and never had any issues. I didnt gain wait, or anything. The only minor side effects I did have was mild cramping after the shot, and headaches. Although once I got off depo that was different. My hair started to fall out, I gained weight, headaches were worse and so on. This pregnancy happened 2 months after being off birth control completely, and while hubby had a vesectomy. So the only real birth control i think is no sex.....
Avatar n tn depo provera effects every one different. when i was on it, it stopped my af all together. however when my mother in law went on it she had af for an entire month. you long bleeding could be your body trying to clear out your system from delivery. if it persists give the doc a call and ask. there are no stupid questions.
Avatar n tn I had my daughter 7mo. ago, I took the depo shot 2 weeks after having her, Ive been on the shot before and had no period at all for 4 years(before I had my baby) Every since giving birth, I have bled on and off.(ex: I might bleed for a couple of days(light) then I might not have anything for a month then all the sudden I start getting the cramps and bleeding again. then I might bleed on and off all month. I cant explain.
Avatar n tn I have been on Depo Provera for 13 years. I have not had a period in probably 10 years or longer. I got the flu and started taking flu medicine and two days later all of the sudden - a period. I am freaking out. What would cause a sudden period after such a long absence? I want it to go away NOW. Did the flu medicine kill my depo shot?
Avatar n tn Despite what docs reassure you, please READ THE SIDE EFFECTS AND CONTRAINDICATIONS OF DEPO PROVERA ON THEIR SITE!! Here are some things you may not have been told: * antibiotics DO decrease the effect of any birth control, whether it is oral, topical, or by injection. * bleeding can and does occur during pregnancy, and esp.
Avatar n tn There are many side effects that some Dr.'s fail to mention. It just doesn't seem healthy that I had no period for 6 years. Maybe the Depo is what is wrong now since I am not pg. If I were you I would check with my Dr. and consider stopping the Depo. There are many forums like this one for Depo. Good Luck to you.
Avatar n tn The Depo is one of the most effective birth controls on the market, but has some side effects that put women off. (I'd never personally use it. I went with a non-hormonal IUD) Side effects you might get are odd spotting, heavy/lighter than normal periods and over time no period, weight gain (this is a real common one) headaches, breast tenderness and a few other I can't think of. You can google for a proper list of side effects and the number of women who experience them.
Avatar f tn i decided to not go on any other birth control for awhile. What are the side effects of coming off the Depo Provera and is it ok to not be on any birthcontrol at all for awhile??
Avatar n tn My girlfriend started using the depo-provera shot about a month ago. We abstained from sex for a week after the injection just to be safe. Two weeks after the injection we had to make a visit to her family practice doctor because we had a hunch that she had a bladder infection. We were right. The doctor prescribed her to take 250 mg of Ciprofloxacin twice daily and of course Phenazopyridine for the pain.
Avatar f tn Hi there, It is known that women who use Depo-Provera may lose significant bone mineral density. It is more common after using depo for increasing duration of use and may not be completely reversible. It is advisable to avoid using it for more than 2 years .The exact cause of your pains in knee joint is due to depo or some other cause can be confirmed only after a thorough evaluation. You also need to consider other possibilities of joint pain like rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, gout etc.
Avatar n tn Also just before the shot was due I would bleed a brownish discharge for 14 days. It was disgusting. I suffered so many side effects with the shot I had to go off it and back onto the pill. Mr Dr hates the Depo shot and was glad when I wanted to go back on the pill. But I did go on the Ortho Evra Patch when that first came out and that was really good. I'm off bc now since we are ttc.
Avatar n tn I dont think it's depo. I had horrible side effects from it, and was on it for 3 yrs. before I got off. (I gained 50lbs. migraines too,but had no choice.) I had been on a high risk med for my skin condition, it stayes in the system for 3 yrs. after stopping the med. Well, I got off, and got AF the month of my skipped shot. I used nuvaring for 3 mo. and then stopped for 3 mo to used natural fertility awareness. Then DH decided to jump me 3 days before ovulation and didn't p/o. so...
Avatar n tn I am in a group where all the women are trying to conceive after the depo provera. Many have been trying to conceive for years, and no luck. And it seems like those who do conceive have miscarriages soon after. Its like 80% of the women who get pg have a miscarriage. Is this linked to the depo? Age? Im 22 and am trying to conceive #2. (my son is 6 now) I am so scared that it might happen to me.
193609 tn?1292183893 I have heard a lot about negative aspects of the Depo provera shot! Has anyone had a good experience?? One doc says I can have it, and another says No, so I am just wondering your opinions!!! Thanks!
432411 tn?1206475709 I was on Depo Provera for BC for 8 years with no side effects but headaches, which were manageable. Also had no periods, which was great! However, I became ill when I stopped having the injections at age 45. I experienced fatigue, joint pain and swelling, and depression. I was tested for everything from Lyme disease and Lupus, to thyroid conditons - all negative. My Dr. finally gave up and diagnosed me with Chronic Fatigue syndrome.
Avatar n tn I went in for my Depo-Provera shot, and a few minutes after I got home the doctor called and said "Sorry, we gave you Depo-Lupron instead of the shot you were supposed to get." I am freaking out! What are the possible side effects of this, am I still safe to have unprotected sex with my husband, will this have any permenant effects on my overies or on my body at all? Do I need to contact a lawyer? Any info you have will be greatly appreciated.
Avatar n tn Hi, I am 17, I am on Depo Provera and am having side effects such as constant bleeding (1 month and half) and the common mood changes. I was told that if I take estrogen I can minimize the bleeding or even stop it...However I was informed by a nurse that due to breast cancer running in my family if I starting to take an estrogen pill so early it can potentially make my risk of breast cancer even higher for the future.
Avatar n tn After being on depo provera for 1 year, I decided to discontinue use and switch to the pill. I decided to be single (and not sexually active) for a while, so I decided to wait until I got my period to start taking the pill. The only problem is that I STILL haven't had a period! It's been 6 or 7 months since I stopped getting the shots. I had normal periods while on the shot, and before I was on the shot, but once I stopped getting it my periods vanished...
202436 tn?1326477933 My sister had it in the past and she just got back on it after she had her daughter. She likes it, and never had any side effects from it. I know some people have issues TTC after it, but she got pregnant two months after stopping it. She also doesn't really have any reactions to medications either though, so I dunno if that makes a difference. When I talked to her about it, the only thing she didn't like was she bled for a month and a half, and then it stopped.
Avatar n tn days when I can barely function and have also experienced symptoms of hypoglycemia and panic attacks and or crying jags for no reason. I have been reading a lot about the Depo side effects some women have had and they mirror mine. I've had a thyroid test and it was fine, so I don't think that I'm diabetic. I have been trying to eat well and clense with milk thistle to try to hasten the exit of the Depo.
Avatar n tn My only advice would be to avoid taking the pill just to stop the bleeding because all this does is cover up the depo after effects and if you ever decide to come back off the pill, the depo effects tend to kick back in. You've got to let your system recover and completely flush out the evil that is depo before fiddling around with more ridiculous time wasting hormones!
Avatar f tn I think you should talk with you doctor to see whats going on and also that you should of check out the side effects before getting on the Depo Provera shot because Deop can cause Irregular, heavy, or no bleeding are common side effects of Depo Provera. After a year of use, many women stop having periods. Lack of a period becomes increasingly common with longer use but since your period hasn't stop you should see your doctor.
Avatar f tn I've never used the Depo, but grew up working in medical offices and know that many women prefer them. You seem to have had alot of problems with US birth control, but also that you've done some research. I have had to make several changes in regards to my birth control (usually pills) due to a medical condition that I have (PCOS). In my most resent research, I found that different pills have such different hormone levels and variations. I'm not sure if you've through of this, or tried it.
