Depo provera recall

Common Questions and Answers about Depo provera recall

Avatar n tn I was given a shot of depo-provera yesterday...and when I asked about side affects all I was told was nausea, headache, and dizziness. After reading quite a few articles online, it seems there are a lot more serious side affects than I was led to believe. I've been having lots of chest pain and shortness of breath, but the doctor doesn't seem to think it's related to the shot.
Avatar n tn Well, had the first Depo-Provera shot today. Hopefully my body adjusts alright and this helps with keeping the endo at bay. Has anyone used the Depo for endometriosis? What kind of experiences did you have? I'm kinda curious, but also thinking that maybe I jumped into the waters before seeing if there were sharks. :) (To reiterate, I was given three choices: oral BC, Depo, or Lupron. Opted against the Lupron for the vast scary side effects.
Avatar f tn I usually respond terribly to hormone treatments but I'm in such a terrible and desperate position right now that I just started taking the Depo provera shot. Last Tuesday to be exact. Still in excruciating pain and have searched the net high & low for days for the answer to this question. Has anyone here tried this treatment for endo pain and gotten relief? Was wondering how long it usually takes to start working for pain.
Avatar n tn I have had endo for over ten years now and after a few surgeries and depo provera i finally put my foot down along with my husband and said Enough is enough, i couldnt live like that any longer! so i started Lucrin in Jan and i've got my last injection in a few days time. I was terrified of going on it after reading side effects but...the hot flushes, night sweats, headaches and feeling pregnant lol are nothing compared to how much pain i was in before!
Avatar n tn Hi, I have endo and have been on depo provera for 2 1/2 years. I still have pain when the last injection wears off, but I'm 28 and I know that if I'm going to try to get pregnant I should soon while my chances are better. My question is that I have heard that even though when you go off depo and your period comes back right away, it can still take a year before you begin ovulating again, does anyone know about this or been in this experience.
Avatar n tn I finished the Seasonale packet the day after surgery, was off the hormones for about a week, and then my gyn gave me the options of more oral BC, Depo-Provera, or Depo-Lupron. The Lupron scared the bejezus out of me, and the oral BC's were all synthetic, which I reacted badly to, so I tried the Depo-Provera. It seemed to work for the first shot, then as I approached the end of the three months, light period started. Gyn upped dose to every 8 weeks instead of 12, and doubled the dose.
Avatar f tn for the past 2 1/2 years I have been bleeding abnormally. It started when I first started the depo provera. I stayed on it for 9 months trying to work with my OB GYN to figure out why I was bleeding so much. She put me on estrogen pills because I'm a small person and didn't have the fat cells to store the estrogen. I bled more when I took the pills so I stopped taking them and just got off the shot.
Avatar f tn There are many different and good options. The mini pill is OK, the Mirena IUD, depo provera, etc. So, don't be afraid to ask your doctor for something like that if you are not quite ready for number two yet! If you don't mind being pregnant again, I would advise you to just wait and see what happens. Good luck!
Avatar n tn Currently that would put me at 19 days past ovulation. If I ovulated, I was on Depo Provera for a long time and it says it can take a while before you ovulate. I have been cramping a little the last 2-3 days like af is coming but nothing. I have still be checking cm and it is very creamy, white, and lots of it. More than I ever recall having seen. My cervix seems pretty high so I can't really tell if it is soft, firm, etc.
Avatar n tn not much is too gross on here, but this is kinda icky) I was started on Depo-Provera for my endometriosis last week. I know it can cause bleeding, especially in the first month or so. My periods were always nice and regular, except for one that occured right after my cyst was found. I was so regular that I could lay out the pads I would use for the entire cycle right at the beginning. Well, I started what I think is a regular period two days ago.
1050219 tn?1255552668 I was scheduled for my depo provera shot on August 20th. I went to the doctor and decided that I wasn't going to get it. Matter of fact, I didn't want any type of birth control. I had been on the shot once before for about 2 1/2 years. Came off the shot and went on the pill for about 9 months and had a lot of issues with it. So I went back on the shot for like 1 1/2 years. Then my fiance and I decided that we wanted to try to have a child.
Avatar f tn I currently take Prozac, Lithium (ER), and Vyvanse each 1x a day. I also get an injection of Depo-Provera once every 3 months. I also have an Rx for Xanex, which is to be taken as needed, but I have not taken it in months. I also often self-medicate with caffine pills - I took two 200mg caffine pills yesterday around 5pm. I also took some Aleve at that time, as I have been having eye pain and headaches for the last two weeks and I was hoping to aleviate that pain.
Avatar n tn i have noticed this problem for at least a couple of years and initially my doctor thought it was because i was in depo provera and had abnormal bleeding all the time. i have been on the pill for over 7 months and my periods are back to normal except after this occurrence following orgasm. in april i had an abnormal pap smear that indicated i had HGSIL (high-grade intraepithelial lesions) of the cervix.
573297 tn?1304712740 and it feels like it is coming back, and if so this is the fourth flare up (one lasting two years, one lasting 6 months to a year, one was three months because of the depo-provera shot) what do I do to get taken seriously? Am I too crazy to have pain? To be taken seriously? I have my pdoc appointment tonight and my GP appointment tomorrow afternoon. Is anyone in the same predicament?
Avatar n tn But I must echo the other wonderful women, and urge you not to make a decision right away about a tubal ligation. However, I ~do~ have a possible option. Have you considered the depo-provera shot? It will provide you with birth control so you won't have to worry about a pregnancy for a while.
Avatar f tn Went to a Reumatologist (have been checked for all soft tissue diseases) and auto immune disorders. In April I receive Depo provera shot, seems that is when the Migrains may have started, and aslo the throat swelling. on 4/27/2008 went to the hospital for sever migrain and was given Tramadol, Benadryl and Compazine (seemed to help a little, just wanted to go home.
Avatar n tn Since evidently you have some sort of major psychological issue causing these blackouts, i hope you seek therapy ASAP. Provera is medroxy-progesterone, an old birth control pill and is also in the form of depo-provera which is a 3 month form of birth control. It is used in men to chemically castrate in the event of deviant behavior or medical reasons.
Avatar n tn There's a very similar thread on this site re Depo Provera injections and thyroid issues. I have similar concerns. I've had Depo and now on my second Implanon and am being treated for hypothyroidism. I am very much questioning whether there is a causal link.. My first instinct was that the Depo caused my thyroid issues.
Avatar n tn It is my understanding that high thyroid levels can come about from low progesterone levels. As I recall, this is one reason why thyroid problems and menopause go together so often, since progesterone levels plummet. Or there is no more progesterone at all after surgical menopause. I am so sorry you are having these struggles. Get ahold of Reiss's book and Northrup's (I just typed Nordstrom by, I guess if you don't get any answers, well, heck, you could go shopping!
Avatar n tn I have also heard of poeple not getting a positive blood test until 3 months pg...But I start Provera tomorrow to jump start my period since I am 2 weeks late then CD5-9 I will take my Clomid and we will go from there...well keep me posted and I will do the same for you!! Be Blesed!!
Avatar f tn Having spent several years on Ortho evra (I have since switched to Depo Provera), my endometriosis has indeed gotten worse. I have always had long, heavy periods, but with Orth Evra, afetr some time the bleeding (not spotting, but actual heavy bleeding) would last 24 - 30 days. I finally called my doctor in tears when the last period lasted 54 days and I was paler than a ghost and could barely sutup straight anymore. All this in addition to unbearable pain.
393685 tn?1425816122 later I ended up hospitalized again for more pulmonary embolisms, notably b/c he never took me off the Depo Provera shots after last lung clot, Nope, Dr's are not infallible, but this one seriouly dropped the ball, I nearly died..
Avatar n tn Hey, well i was in the same situation until last month which was the 1st time i had my period from April, i was perscribed Provera, to bring it on and it did, but i'm trying to have a baby, My gyno has perscribed me clomiphine to stimulate the ovaries, all i know is after taking the provera i had really bad peroid pain and it came back with a vengence, I have a really good gyno and if u are trying to concieve, i've been through a lot of pelvic ultrasounds (internal) cause it's the best way to se
Avatar n tn Solution supress your periods. The way this is done is with a shot called Depo-Provera. I have endometriosis and have been addicted to Vicodin for years. I received the shot and it suppressed my periods, hence no period no pain!!! Unfortunately, the side effects were unbearable and so I stopped the shots. I am not sure if you have already tried this but if you haven't look into it and ask your OB/GYN.
196469 tn?1365391575 But, progesterone cannot be patented and so the company that makes Premarin came up with a Progestin, as Katie pointed out, and they called it Provera (Depo Provera is a relative of this). The two drugs together, Premarin and Provera, Equal Prempro. It is now theorized that the Progestins are what helps create the big mess in the synthetic world of hormones. The snythetic estrogens are not great either ( I, like you, would only use a bio estrogen like Vivelle) but that Progestin is nasty.
Avatar n tn Massive doses of birth control pills (which we don't want, because of all the side effects), or to take Provera, which is a hormone. We chose the Provera. Last night I took the last pill... I was told to take it for 5 days and then I should start my period again. She said if this period lasts longer than 2 weeks to come back. I haven't started up again yet, but it hasn't even been 24 hours since my last dose. So hopefully this turns out well.
Avatar n tn I have never had headaches but on the 8th of Dec I had a horrible migraine and they have not stopped since then. I was on Depo Provera and switched to Lo/overal pills could this be a reason for the headaches? I stopped taking the pill last Friday after visiting the ER with horrible pains in my head. All the tests at the ER can back ok but the headaches still come everyday. I was taking up to five meds a day to curb the pain until 2 days ago.
470885 tn?1326332637 Since we weren't trying and the pregnancy took us by surprise, I can't recall! I know my BBs were super sore and heavy, which I attributed to AF (it was my 3rd cycle off BC and I thought my hormones were just regulating themselves or something). Plus I was cramping a LOT, it felt like AF was coming any minute. And I had sore muscles in my stomach (which I thought was from shoveling snow). Basically, I was clueless. I didn't find out I was pg. until I was 6 weeks....
