Depo provera kidney

Common Questions and Answers about Depo provera kidney

Avatar f tn I had had baby in Sept 04 and then went on Depo Provera a month later. A year later I started getting manic depressant and just didnt feel right. This was the second time that this happened to me on Depo Provera so I immediately went off. I let my system clean out for a month and then went onto Lo Ovoral pills and into the 8th day of the second pack I started to get these horrible migraines. I have never been sickly or have had headhaches in my life.
Avatar n tn Well, here goes nothing. I have been on depo provera for over 8 years. I have signed up for a forum for people who are trying to concieve after depo and have had some great support. I have been reading alot your posts and replied to a few. I am told that it could take as long as 2 years before I can get pregnant. I don't think I have ovulated yet. Last shot was August 4, 2006. Usually you take the shots every 3 months since it is possible to get pg if it is taken too late.
Avatar n tn I have been on depo for 11 years. I would be due for my next shot on 9/27 but my Doctor has advised that I stop having it. She has been treating me for migraines and depression with Imitrex (when needed) and a daily dosage of Prozac of 10mg. The Imitrex thankfully, works, and the migraines have also been lessened by the Prozac.
Avatar f tn I've just turned 18 and I've been using the depo shot for at least 7 months because the pill was making me sick. When I asked my Nurse about depo she just told me about the positives which left me very much in the dark about this contraception.Since starting my shots I have gained 14LBS in just SEVEN months!!I have gone back to the nurse since and explained that my diet and exercise hasn't changed but I'm gaining weight, she wasn't exactly sympathic and insisted I eat less!
Avatar f tn 2009 had second laparoscopy, removal of multiple cysts and a ton of endometrial cells. Started Depo-Provera right after. stopped depo in Oct.2011, Depo was great for the first 2 years and then i was having pain and fullness in my abdomen, i decided to come off of depo provera after a visit with an endo specialist who suggested i try to go natural. in Dec2011 the pain began.....
Avatar n tn I used depo provera injections for two and a half years. It's been over a year since my last injection. within the first six months after stopping the shot I gained 40lbs without a change in my diet and excercise.I was told this was unusual to gain after stopping the shot and that i may never lose the weight. Is this true? or is the only way to go back on the shot because while i was on the shot i actually lost weight.but if that's the answer won't i be trapped on the shot forever?
Avatar f tn Hi, I have been gaining weight after discontinuing depo provera and adderall 30mg. I have been gaining wait rapidly, it's really quite scary. I was 122lb in December and after weighing in on October 15th I am not 182lb! A few months ago I was 153.. Doctors I've seen tell me to "eat healthy and exercise." Well, I already do that. I always have been healthy and involved in sports. My weight is getting to be very uncomfortable.
Avatar n tn If you are pregnant your baby is in somewhat in danger by you being injected with the Depo Provera just a couple of months ago. I would make me an appointment at the local clinic or your ob/gyn. Explain to them what is going on. Obviously if your taking the shot you don't want to be pregnant. Your body has to be on a perfect hormonal balance for the egg to implant and survive.
Avatar n tn I have had endo for over ten years now and after a few surgeries and depo provera i finally put my foot down along with my husband and said Enough is enough, i couldnt live like that any longer! so i started Lucrin in Jan and i've got my last injection in a few days time. I was terrified of going on it after reading side effects but...the hot flushes, night sweats, headaches and feeling pregnant lol are nothing compared to how much pain i was in before!
1704625 tn?1310712361 I tried depo provera, yaz, ortho evra, ortho tri cyclen(my body is ok w/this one), and I finally have settled with ortho cyclen. As for the pain under my ribs it was in the middle and onto the right side.
Avatar n tn Sorry so long but.... I was on Depo Provera for 5 years and had my last injection in April 2002. I immediately began taking BCP's (Ovcon 35-28) in July 2002. I stopped the BCP's in November 2002. In January, I started to bleed, some days heavy, some days light, some spotting. This lasted for 3 weeks straight, when I decided to go to my OB/GYN. She told me that she was going to put me on a drug called Provera to build my lining back up so I could shed it all at once.
Avatar n tn I had my gall bladder removed a year ago, this yr 2010 I went on the depo shot and I gained 15 in 3 months is this due to my gall bladder or the depo shot? before my surgery I was 115, and never gained a pound.
Avatar f tn I received my first Depo Provera shot in November 30th prior to this date I had already gotten my period. It’s now January 18th and I started my “period” (if you can even call it that) a couple of days ago. I have little to no active bleeding, I’m soooo bloated, it started with brown discharge, I can hardly eat which means I’m not pooping, etc... this morning though, I passed a blood clot in my urine and nearly immediately I was in instant pain. Is this normal? Should I be worried?
Avatar n tn I have had bleeding alot after the surgery first of course because of it then as soon as that stopd i ended haven surgery to put a stent in my kidney which caused bleeding and when that stopd i had surgery to remove it and a kidney stone which also caused bleeding. however i definatly can not say for sure there was a period mixed in there. i have extrememly painful periods that are unmistakable..
665881 tn?1248930597 Hi, I am living in absolute fear everyday because I am convinced I have "MS" Multiple sclerosis". Ok it started when recently in the last a few months I have been having Muscle twitches, muscle spasms, wooziness, joint aches, muscle pains, tingling, muscle tension, tiredness/weakness, uncontrolled movements of the eyes, back ache, leg cramps, vision problems & the urge to urinate but nothing comes out! These are all "MS" symptoms and it's frightening me to death!
Avatar n tn I should add that I'm currently on depo-provera for birth control and 225mg of effexor for depression.
Avatar f tn I have been on Depo provera for 6 years and have not had a period the entire time. These symptoms aren't related to the surgery...they all were happening prior. What do you think it could be?
Avatar n tn I also have a fatty liver and endometriosis. I was diagnosed with the fatty liver 6 months after taking a single dose of Depo Provera - an injectable 3rd world synthetic progesterone birth control. Needless to say, I am compliant to the CPAP, it is really the only thing that seems to be dragging me through this. Just wondering if anyone else has shared symptoms.
Avatar n tn The cramping also gets worse when I have a full bladder or have to have a BM. I have had my kidney, liver and gallbladder levels checked, as well as my thyroid and all was normal. Also had a pregnancy test and an exam to check for pulps. All was normal. I just had an ultra sound done today and should know the results in a day or so. My doctor just put me on a medication called Provera to help with my bleeding. Which has helped but i still have very light spotting from time to time.
Avatar n tn I had recurring UTI's until I went on depo provera for birth control. It sounds to me, from someone who's had a lot of them, that you have one. Especially from the having to go all the time but nothing comes out. Even if you don't have alot of pain, and you have that..its most likely what it is. And you want to get it checked out right away because it can spread to your kidneys and they can get damaged. I know because I only have one fully functioning kidney, the other works at about 50%.
Avatar n tn If an infection is ruled out, a gynecologist can perform a laparoscopy or alternatively, attempt a trial of medical treatment with birth control pills, injection of Depo-provera or GnRH agonist for endometriosis. If the pain is resolved with medical treatment and infection was ruled out then it is most likely endometriosis and this is now an acceptable approach to treating endometriosis.
Avatar n tn I'm not pregnant and I am on Depo-Provera shot since last November 2009. Can you tell me what could be giving me these symptoms? Please and Thank you!
Avatar f tn In November, I also switched from taking birth control pills, to the shot, Depo Provera. Could this possibly be what is causing the problem? I know that the Depo shot has lots of side effects, which is why I will no longer be getting the shot again. I also should mention I have epilepsy, and started taking Topamax at a dosage of 100 mg. twice a day in the beginning of November to control my seizures. I know that Topamax can have bad side effects on the kidneys as well.
Avatar f tn Depending upon what your risk for blood clots is, you might be able to use depo-Provera to suppress the ovaries and the testosterone. A really great medication for excess testosterone is Spironolactone, but you must be on some kind of birth control to take it, as it can cause birth defects. It also sounds like you may need a workup for all those UTIs! After all those antibiotics, its no wonder that you have a yeast infection!
1611503 tn?1325485790 That's the generic for Provera. What it does is induces a period in a woman who is anovulatory and not getting her period, which you already know. I was on this medicine for a few months to help try to get my cycle restarted correctly. It didn't help me. All it did was induce my period and then I would go another month an a half without ovulating before I'd call for a refill. Some women it does help to restart their bodies into ovulating, but it's not reliable.
Avatar f tn I was on depo provera for 17 months. I got my last depo shot in February. Since starting with Depo up until now i had no period. I went for blood tests the 16 September, my dr told me i have very low progestrone (0.4) and low testerone (71). Me and my husband are trying to conseive and we slept together, the 25th, 27th and on the 28th. Then on Friday the 4th of October i noticed spotting, first brown and then light pink.
Avatar n tn Confused about my symptoms, I returned to her. She was ALSO confused and said they didn't make sense. I have been on Depo Provera for about 2 years now (only had 2 shots that stayed in my system FOREVER), so my suspicion is that these cuts and extreme external dryness may be due to a drop in my estrogen. I LITERALLY AM DRY. I'm 21 years old, was sexually active, NOW not only do I not even WANT to have sex, my vagina is as dry as a bone. No discharge, nothing.

Avatar f tn I had had all kinds of period issues, from spotting to severe cramps, in the past (hmmm, endo?), so I figured I would change my birth control to depo provera. It's been great in the sense that it eventually eliminated my periods, so no monthly pain associated with the mass. I know it is a bandaid fix, since it depo isn't recommended for the long run (I take 1200mg of calcium daily). I've been monitoring the thing since it was finally found via trans-vaginal ultrasound last October.
1284894 tn?1272175054 I think my body is just worn out from being in pain for so long and taking strong pain meds for ages too. Also, I was put on the depo provera shot and had my first one 2 weeks ago.
