Depo provera infertility

Common Questions and Answers about Depo provera infertility

Avatar n tn Is depo-provera linked with infertility! I am a 24 and at the age of 20, I had 2 injections of depo-provera. Ever since, my period could me counted as almost none except when I am extreamely stress wich happen only 2 times. Other than that, nothing. I had a physical, inner & outer ultrasound & blood word and everthing was A1. So my doctor thinks I might be infertile. Before taking depo-provera, my periods were normal.
Avatar n tn I was on Depo Provera for one year. I was put on the shot fro severe Ovarian Cysts. Instead of getting the shot every three months I had to get one every two months. Every doctor reassured me it was safe. I have now been off depo for one year and a half. My husband and I have tried every thing to get pregnant and I still can't. I started my periods as soon as I stopped taking Depo. All the doctors still assure me everything is okay. My gut feeling is telling me not to take that for an answer.
Avatar f tn I am TTC and I had my last Depo Provera shot in July 2010 (11 months ago). I had taken Depo for 7 years. I have yet to have my period or ovulate. I went to an RE and he prescribed Provera for 5 days at 10 mg. I took it, and have yet to get a period and it has been 5 days since last pill, so I guess it didn't work. He said my bloodwork was "normal", but said over the phone I must have hypothalamic amennorrhea. I have an appointment to go back to him in 3 weeks.
Avatar n tn I just got done reading up more about Depo Provera Side Effects and Infertility is one of them and it is highly recommended not to use it more then 2 years. Not to mention " One of the major side effects of depo provera is the irreversible loss of bone density with prolonged use. This may also lead to the higher risk of osteoporosis in women. " those word are right from the depo info page.
Avatar n tn Currently I am working on looking into the effects of Depo-Provera in young women, specifically focusing on osteoporosis and infertility. Avatar n tn The docotors believe I may have a progesterone problem due to Depo Provera. I was on Depo for 6 years and went off the shot in Sept. Does anyone know if the effects of this shot can linger and cause lower progesterone levels?
Avatar n tn I don't know why this would make you lose weight, but it will have no interaction at all with birth control whether pills or Depo Provera. Depo Provera has been implicated with weight gain. Some say it is the increased appetite due to the potent progestin, but probably more than that. Some women won't gain an ounce, but others will put it on very quickly. The number of meds that actually have the potential to make birth control less effective is very short.
Avatar n tn I was given a shot of depo-provera yesterday...and when I asked about side affects all I was told was nausea, headache, and dizziness. After reading quite a few articles online, it seems there are a lot more serious side affects than I was led to believe. I've been having lots of chest pain and shortness of breath, but the doctor doesn't seem to think it's related to the shot.
Avatar f tn Future Fertility -- Women who want to become pregnant may stop using Depo Provera at any time. For some women, fertility returns immediately. For others, it may take 6-18 months or longer for the body's hormone cycle to go back to normal. ...
Avatar n tn I was on depo for 1 year. (I'm 25 now, 23 at the depo time) I gained 50 pounds, had terrible mood swings, depression, bone loss, fatigue and some minor other problems. I suffer from knee/joint pain now because depo causes you to loose calcium in your bones. If you choose to go with it, make sure you start a calcuim supplament right away. I honestly would suggest researching into any drug before you commit to it. Some people I know have had really good luck with it.
Avatar n tn Well, had the first Depo-Provera shot today. Hopefully my body adjusts alright and this helps with keeping the endo at bay. Has anyone used the Depo for endometriosis? What kind of experiences did you have? I'm kinda curious, but also thinking that maybe I jumped into the waters before seeing if there were sharks. :) (To reiterate, I was given three choices: oral BC, Depo, or Lupron. Opted against the Lupron for the vast scary side effects.
Avatar n tn After being on depo provera for 1 year, I decided to discontinue use and switch to the pill. I decided to be single (and not sexually active) for a while, so I decided to wait until I got my period to start taking the pill. The only problem is that I STILL haven't had a period! It's been 6 or 7 months since I stopped getting the shots. I had normal periods while on the shot, and before I was on the shot, but once I stopped getting it my periods vanished...
Avatar n tn The effects of depo Provera can last for up to 18 months. So, it is entirely possible that you are still having after effects. If you were my patient, I would probably begin a work up for infertility though, starting with ovulation predictors. If you ARE ovulating, we would continue looking for other problems such as blocked tubes or low sperm count. Good luck!
Avatar n tn My husband and I are TTC and I took the Depo shot twice and stopped 11/04 and then started BCP till 8/05 and havent had a period since except with provera. I think the Depo is still in my system and is screwing everything up. I hope the provera works for you and best of luck with the clomid.
Avatar f tn I want to find a reliable birth control method, and Depo Provera sounds good, but I've heard rumors of it causing infertility. Is this even possible?

Avatar f tn I wonder what the difference between the two depo shots are and I wonder why my gyno recommended the other depo shot if the depo-subq provera 104 shot is specific for endo ?
Avatar f tn I usually respond terribly to hormone treatments but I'm in such a terrible and desperate position right now that I just started taking the Depo provera shot. Last Tuesday to be exact. Still in excruciating pain and have searched the net high & low for days for the answer to this question. Has anyone here tried this treatment for endo pain and gotten relief? Was wondering how long it usually takes to start working for pain.
Avatar f tn I've just turned 18 and I've been using the depo shot for at least 7 months because the pill was making me sick. When I asked my Nurse about depo she just told me about the positives which left me very much in the dark about this contraception.Since starting my shots I have gained 14LBS in just SEVEN months!!I have gone back to the nurse since and explained that my diet and exercise hasn't changed but I'm gaining weight, she wasn't exactly sympathic and insisted I eat less!
Avatar n tn Hi There I had 2 aborted pregnancies both had complications, & in my last pregnancy I took the Depo Provera to avoid getting pregnant again, I have only taken one shot my period immediately came after the 12 weeks period that the shot would last for. However after that my periods have been totally irregular & in two years I have only had 3 periods. My periods usually were regular before I took the Depo Provera Shot.
3183263 tn?1344739836 I been on depo provera since 2009 until 2011. And I still haven't gotten pregnant and I really want to.
Avatar f tn depo can take 12-18 months to get fully out of your system. I was on it for 5 years. 4 months after I got off it, I started feeling pregnant. I was puking, smells made me sick, dizzy, boobs hurt, tired, achey, headaches, and wasn't getting my period. After catscans and ultrasounds, they figured out that I wasn't ovulating because of a cyst on my ovary caused by the depo and all my symptoms were my body going through withdrawl from the drug.
788476 tn?1236736130 As a teen I was put on birthcontrol for heavy irregular periods. I was too irresponsible to remember to take the pill so I went on depo provera for about 7 years. Then I got off birthconrol, and had flashes of INTENSE pelvic pain that lasted at most a few seconds but were similar to that of the pain that I get from penetration that is too deep... It's kind of like what I would imagine getting your cervix ripped out would feel like.
Avatar n tn It has now been 15 months since my last Depo shot and still no AF. My doc gave me Provera, but I didn't have any withdrawal bleeding after taking the last pill. When I told my doctor this, she said that my lab results showed that my prolactin was high, and so she prescribed something to bring prolactin down. My question is, what does the prolactin have to do with low estrogen?
Avatar n tn does taking depo provera for 3 months make you infertile?
Avatar n tn maybe you should get checked out anyway, if your in a lot of pain don't take the chance. Depo Side Effects One of the major side effects of depo provera is the irreversible loss of bone density with prolonged use. This may also lead to the higher risk of osteoporosis in women. Therefore, it is always recommended that you should not use this contraceptive for more than two years. Women are also advised to exercise and take in a lot of calcium while using this method.
Avatar n tn I was on the depo-provera shot for about three years with next to no side effects. then i decided it was the right time to stop, but the next 3 months were hellish, with what i called reverse periods, ( having bleeding for most of a month and about a week of nothing) after that phase i started just a normal pill, which i got off of due to hormonal reasons, but the end result was that it regulated my flow.
Avatar f tn Now i am waiting for my gynecologist appointment to come through.I am so worried at the moment.I am sure it is because of Depo Provera AND NOT CANCER.I told her that i have read a lot of reviews of woman who had the sam on going bleeding for months, but she kind of ignored that. I just wonder how will they stop that bleeding? When it is going to stop?
