Depo provera for teenagers

Common Questions and Answers about Depo provera for teenagers

depo-provera

Avatar n tn To: JoannaRF I whole heartedly agree that the depo isn't for teenagers. Teenagers go through so many ups and downs as it is. Having something as powerful as Depo in a young woman's system, is just asking for problems. I hope your daughter considers a safer method, although it my require more discipline, of birth control. I wish you and your daughter the best!!!
Avatar f tn I was on depo for 3 yrs for same reason. Chronic ovarian cysts. The depo however made my cysts WORSE. I stopped and was able to conceive my 2nd child after 6 months of stopping which im grateful for. I did however carry my 2nd child with a huge ovarian chocolate cyst the size of a cantoloupe caused from depo. After having my son, i was diagnosed with severe endometriosis stage 5. I had severe fatigue like u also and complete loss of sex drive. I now control my cysts with natural remedies.
Avatar n tn I have been on the Depo-provera for 10 years. I'm 27 now and have been married for 2 years. My next one is due on the 14th Feb 2012 the only time i have bleed was when I had cell's removed after another bad 'smear' test. I really want a baby my husband has 5 kids but we dont see them much (not out of choice!) Iam really scared now that I'm not going to be able to have a baby and wont beable to be the wife I want to be....
362249 tn?1441318618 What is this telling teenagers? The teenage pregnancy rate is already out of control and this is NOT the answer!! I'm probably gonna pi$$ some people off but i think that if a teenager gets PG they need to make it just like in China you get PG out of wedlock and you have to pay a fine!! I guess they would try to get married then in this case and then we would need it like me and my DH have to do with the INS (immigration peeps) they would need proof of a relationship!!
Avatar n tn I have a friend who while she was a teenager didn't know she was pregnant untill she was 6 months, this was because she was on the depo and (like me) doesn't get her period back for up to a year after the shot, one day she realised her back pain and growing stomach were very suspicious and went to the doctor about it, she had gotton pregnant right after the depo provera wore off and didn't know because she wasn't expecting periods.
341240 tn?1203121451 ) BUT the majority of the time it doesn't work, esp. for younger teens! I actually got on Depo Provera shot @ 17 1/2 because I got on a high risk medicine for my skin problem. (its genetic, my mom and gma have it and this baby has a %50/50 of having it.) It's called EHK. it was a godsend to me, and my mom knew we were having sex by then, but still didn't want me on BCP. Anywayse, I had bad side effects w/depo I gained 50 lbs!!! BUT I didn't get pregnant, and it kept us protected.
Avatar n tn I have a 4 yr old son and were aiming to have another one for 2 years im having difficulty so i seek for physcian's advice she has diagnosed my case as PCOS related to secondary infertility and since i have an irregular period she gave me provera and clomid for fertility. I don't know if this will work for me.Its very frustrating esp. my son's is asking me every now and then about when is the baby coming out he's so excited to have a sister. We've been praying for a baby soon.
Avatar n tn In November I had the depo provera shot. I didn't have my period for 2 weeks and then it came and has not stopped. It's now 3 days until August. I have a doctor appt. for the 1st and that was the soonest I can be seen. I want it to go away. I'm scared it won't. I think I'm getting anemic and that might explain some of my severe exhaustion etc. But it's been 8monthes almost 9. Know one told me this was a possible side effect.
Avatar n tn Sorry for the outrage, but this board tends to be for people that are in committed and long term relationships that have beebn trying for quite some time (not two months), not teenagers that are looking to play house. This board supports real WOMEN that have done their research, put in their time, and have the intelligence and means to raise a child. This is not to say that young people should not have kids.
Avatar n tn Ok so the scoop is I was on the depo shot for about 3 years and my periods were very irregular before that and got more so weird as I took the depo shot. I was due for a shot in february but did not go for it so my last shot was in November. The last two days I have had a pinkishy color discharge when I wipe nothing mayjor that i have to use a pad or tampon or anything.

Avatar n tn I have just recently switched birth control pills (about 2months ago)and last month I had my regular period. I have not missed a period yet, but for almost three weeks I have been nausea off and on all day long with indegestion and have been extemely tired. I have taken three home pregnancy test and one out of the three was positive. That was last Wed. night, Thurs. I went to the doctor and he did a blood test that came back negative. The thing is I have never reacted to BCP this way before.
Avatar n tn Me and my girlfriend started to have sex but stopped after a couple of seconds with out a condom, because we both didn't want for me to go inside her. what are the chance of her being pregnant?
544292 tn?1268886268 Sometimes, in war, you have to lay in your foxhole and do nothing but wait in silence. There's time for action and there's a time for inaction. To know the difference is good. It is wise. At the moment I'm beating myself up badly for not being able to move and certainly NOT being able to drive in this state! Come on now; I don't want to hurt anyone because my driving abilities are impaired. Let's act with intelligence shall we?
Avatar m tn I admit I'm still wrapping my head around it because you hear a new pill being advertised on tv every day but then a class action lawsuit five years later. I myself took depo provera and that was a big mistake. Still, Wilko1956 wants to do it and it's worth a try. The good news his liver can't get any worse as explained by the doctor so I'm hoping the betting the only way now is up! Thanks meNtoby!
Avatar n tn This compares with 10 for the normal IUCD, 20 for the Pill and 10-15 for the injection (Depo Provera). This is comparable to the effectiveness of sterilisation. Mirena acts as a contraceptive in two ways: it makes the mucus at the neck of the womb (the cervix) much thicker, preventing sperm from getting through and it also makes the lining of the womb extremely thin, stopping implantation. In some women it prevents egg release (ovulation). A.
Avatar n tn Thanks for your responses to my post. I have scheduled to have another blood test done. I still as of yet haven't started my period. No sign of it coming either. I do remember though that back in 2001, I realized I hadn't seen a period for almost that whole month and my breast had gotten so sore, I could hardly get out of bed, so I immediately went to buy a H.P.T, and it turned positive before I could pull it out of my urine stream almost.
298579 tn?1192250448 The only thing I have seen that helps the pain is an herbal wrap that you heat up(you can get them @ walmart), and I lay that on my stomach. I have been on the depo shot for four years, I have asked if this is a contributing factor and have been told no. I have no kids. I hope someone comes up with an explanation, because I am too young to be giving up on my sex life!

Avatar n tn Thank You for your help with your responses. I have a question. What does bfn and af stand for?
Avatar n tn I too noticed this sticky crown issue about a week ago. I am 26 and do not have any more stress in my life than usual. I am on the Depo-Provera shot for birth control and read that Depo-Ralovera (a very similar shot) can cause greasy hair. (http://www.wrongdiagnosis.com/symptoms/greasy_hair/side-effects.htm) I wonder if I could have received the wrong shot when I was in about 2 weeks ago, the names are so similar.
Avatar n tn i wonder why we have to go through all this with the iud the reason i got it was so i wont have to worry about getting the depo, but i guess that worked for five years next time im sticking with it. than i go on the babies online site to see how far along am i and in one week i dont remember which one it says the breast produces colostrum, so me being unpatient i go ahead for the squeeze.........surprise some fluid appears.....i cant wait for the ultrasound its in three days........
1294995 tn?1330666336 Love the new thread! CarlisMaMa, I'm still waiting for AF too, I'm 2 days past Provera and nothing yet. It's the first time I take provera so I don't really know how my body is going to react. I've had some sort of cramping since yesterday so hopefully it will be withing the next couple days, I can't wait for af to show, I just want to get started on the next cycle! It's been over 2 months for me now.
Avatar n tn She said she took SEVERAL HPT and 2 blood ALL NEGATIVE. Finally when her Doc gave her a RX for provera to start her period she was tested one more time 12/9 almost a month later she FINALLY GOT a positive blood test. Her Docs theory is she just ovulated VERY late in her cycle that month!!! How crazy is that!!? It took almost a WHOLE month for her to show positive for pregnant. I mean you are alittle further than a month though. Have you got an ultrasound?
162948 tn?1205256292 My doctor told me that you can get pregnant immediately after getting off Mirena but it may take a month or two for your uterine lining to build back up. Since Mirena suppressed the lining from building up.
Avatar n tn 29,2003 and Aug 31,2003, they all lasted for 5 days. I tracked my fertile days for three months and was sure that I ovulated on Nov 12,2003 I had all the ovulating symptoms. I also had unprotected sex on Nov 11,2003. I went to the doctor on Dec.1,2003 and they gave me both a urine and blood pregnancy test that came back negative. I've been having mild cramps from time to time but I really don't feel pregnant. My stomach is still flat and I always feel empty other than that I'm normal.
Avatar f tn Although I VERY RARELY feel it on the right side, it DOES happen once in awhile. But for the most part it's been my left side. I've had all the heart tests, including stress echo, I've had an MRI of my brain and neck, I've had a breast exam. I've even seen a chiropractor. Every test they've done comes back normal. And nothing seems to help. I've tried aspri - doesn't work. I try massaging my breast and shoulders and that seems to help a tiny bit. Usually the pain is very dull...
Avatar n tn I am looking for more info on pregnancy after an endometrial ablation. I had an ablation in May 2002. January 2003 I was not feeling well and went to the family doctor. She thought it may be an ectopic pregnancy since I was told I was sterile. I had an ultrasound to discover it was an interuterine pregnancy and I was about 9 weeks. I am now 17 weeks and for the past month trying to decide to terminate or continue.
503727 tn?1210442710 I feel dizzy ALOT and I am afraid to be alone or go to a store, When I get in a store I get dizzy, hot and I can feel my heart racing in my chest. I too have had all the various workups for my health and am otherwise fine. I took xanax, and the first pill worked fine then after that they didn't work anymore Now i've started prozac and I feel even worse, everytime I stand up I get the feeling im going to black out. Hopefully this will go away soon.
Avatar n tn For the last 6 months I have been getting tearing (look like paper cuts) in my vaginal area (1/4 to 1/2 inch long). I get the tears at least once or twice a week and they last from 2-4 days, go away for a few days and then come back. They continue to occur in the same locations; 1. Inside the vaginal lips on the sides almost always in the crease (between the labia minora and majora?) 2. Between the anus and vaginal opening (perineum) 3. Above the clitoris in the "hood" area.
