Avatar n tn I was on the Depo Provera shot for 6 months. I was due for my last shot on Oct. 19 but did not get it in hopes of TTC. A few days ago, I bled for just one day then nothing since. Should I interpret this as the beginning of my cycle coming back or just spotting? Any similar experience? Thanks!
Avatar n tn How was depo provera for you?
Avatar n tn I was searching google when I found this website. I am referring to "KNeal" who posted on 7/21/07 "passing (3*2) sheets of tissue during menstruation, not clots". Also two other women posted with similar stories, "ericahts" on 7/31 and "colady123" on 9/18 First of all, in the hopes I will get some kind of expert opinion, or other feedback here, let me explain what happened. I am 22 today. In 2003, I was 17 going on 18.
Avatar n tn I don't know why this would make you lose weight, but it will have no interaction at all with birth control whether pills or Depo Provera. Depo Provera has been implicated with weight gain. Some say it is the increased appetite due to the potent progestin, but probably more than that. Some women won't gain an ounce, but others will put it on very quickly. The number of meds that actually have the potential to make birth control less effective is very short.
432411 tn?1206475709 I was on Depo Provera for BC for 8 years with no side effects but headaches, which were manageable. Also had no periods, which was great! However, I became ill when I stopped having the injections at age 45. I experienced fatigue, joint pain and swelling, and depression. I was tested for everything from Lyme disease and Lupus, to thyroid conditons - all negative. My Dr. finally gave up and diagnosed me with Chronic Fatigue syndrome.
Avatar n tn After being on depo provera for 1 year, I decided to discontinue use and switch to the pill. I decided to be single (and not sexually active) for a while, so I decided to wait until I got my period to start taking the pill. The only problem is that I STILL haven't had a period! It's been 6 or 7 months since I stopped getting the shots. I had normal periods while on the shot, and before I was on the shot, but once I stopped getting it my periods vanished...

Avatar f tn I started receiving the Depo-Provera shot 6 weeks after I gave birth to my son in 2000. I was on the shot for 9 months and gained 118 lbs. My eating habits and excersise habits never changed and I continued to put on the weight. My doctor need numerous tests to see if there was an underlining problem he wasn't aware of, but there wasn't. 6 years later I have lost 81 lbs. - it hasn't been easy.
Avatar n tn I have been on depo for 11 years. I would be due for my next shot on 9/27 but my Doctor has advised that I stop having it. She has been treating me for migraines and depression with Imitrex (when needed) and a daily dosage of Prozac of 10mg. The Imitrex thankfully, works, and the migraines have also been lessened by the Prozac.
Avatar n tn I am also on the depo shot. I have been on it for 7 months now and have experienced every side effect possible. I'm scheduled to get my next shot on October 31, but I will not be getting it. I spot ALOT for at least 2 of the 3 months that my shot last. Now hearing you guys stories convinces me even more that the shot just isn't for me. Hope it get's better for you guys.
Avatar f tn I wonder what the difference between the two depo shots are and I wonder why my gyno recommended the other depo shot if the depo-subq provera 104 shot is specific for endo ?
Avatar f tn Hello, If you stop getting Depo-Provera injections, your period usually returns within 3 to 10 months but sometimes it may take 12-18 mths. So to regulate the periods, you need to take birth control pills for atleast 6 months. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps.
Avatar n tn Yes, Depo Provera can and often does make you gain weight. Lots of people have used it and gained weight on it.
Avatar n tn I used depo provera injections for two and a half years. It's been over a year since my last injection. within the first six months after stopping the shot I gained 40lbs without a change in my diet and excercise.I was told this was unusual to gain after stopping the shot and that i may never lose the weight. Is this true? or is the only way to go back on the shot because while i was on the shot i actually lost weight.but if that's the answer won't i be trapped on the shot forever?

Avatar f tn I have been on the Depo Provera shot for one year - before I say anything else I should mention to you that it's more immediately effective if they give you the shot in your hip like they recommend, not in your arm. I have had no normal periods while on it; on a rare occasion I will have a small amount of blood when I wipe after going to the bathroom (sorry if that detail was gross).
Avatar n tn maybe you should get checked out anyway, if your in a lot of pain don't take the chance. Depo Side Effects One of the major side effects of depo provera is the irreversible loss of bone density with prolonged use. This may also lead to the higher risk of osteoporosis in women. Therefore, it is always recommended that you should not use this contraceptive for more than two years. Women are also advised to exercise and take in a lot of calcium while using this method.
Avatar n tn i been on the shot for a month and still been bleeding on and off is it just best for me to get off and get on the pill.....i truly believe depo is not for everyone...dat *****...
2026160 tn?1328928087 Do not use fabric softeners and/or fabric softener sheets in the dryer, especially on pillowcases as they cause a waxy residue that can clog pores on acne-prone individuals. Avoid low-estrogen birth control pills, Norplant, Provera, and Depo-Provera. Also progesterone hormone replacement Premarin can be problematic. If you have polycystic ovaries, they will cause hormonal changes and breakout. See our blog post about birth control pills for more information.
Avatar f tn I was on Depo for about a year and my first period lasted about 10 days and then it stopped. My next period was light and only lasted 2 days and then I never had one again for the rest of that year. I went off of it and about a 6 weeks later I had a period that lasted for a about two months but then I went back to normal. I went back on the shot today while on my period, so I'm hoping that it will stop my periods again completely.
Avatar n tn Other side effects of Depo Provera can include headaches, nervousness, mood changes, bloating, hot flashes, decreased interest in sex, breast tenderness, acne, hair loss, and back ache. After the last shot of Depo Provera, it can take over 6 months for the drug to leave the body. Side effects may linger until the drug is completely gone.
Avatar f tn I didnt think I had this problem until I broke my fingers the other day. The Depo Provera shot is only recommended for use for 2 to 3 years, but no longer than that. Bleeding could be caused by irritation, could be a ruptured cyst on the ovary or cervix, or you could just have what they call "breakthrough bleeding". Just because you are on the Depo Provera shot does not mean that you cannot and will not have a period or breakthrough bleeding.
1467678 tn?1370945132 Nuvaring ( I got continuous uti infections from having this inside me) Implanon- no sex drive at all ( relationship issues due to that) Depo provera injection worked for me was happy with this but I'm not sure its suitable to my above conditions. My fertility specialist advised that i could go on the morena, and I've heard nothing but bad news re this contraception and considering the nuvaring didn't want I'm not even wanting to consider this option. My thoughts are hysterectomy?
Avatar n tn When I was on it, I bled continuously for the entire time (9 months) and lost a lot of weight because I couldn't eat without vomiting. So when the acne started showing up, I had been off of the depo for a year and a half. I was perfectly healthy before going on the depo. I have heard that depo provera effects insulin levels and I do have some symptoms of insulin resistance (dizziness, light headedness, heart racing, mood swings, headaches, chronic yeast infections.
Avatar n tn I can't seem to lose this weight, I do have a large amount of stress but its going on 6months without a period now and the last 3 days I started to notice SMALL dark blood clots in the toilet water... I've used Depo off and on for several years and every other time I stopped using it I got my period right back... Each month that passes without it coming I become a little more worried. Does nursing have something to do with it?
Avatar f tn Irregular menstrual periods, or no periods at all Headaches Nervousness Depression Dizziness Acne Changes in appetite Weight gain Excessive growth of facial and body hair Hair loss Loss of bone mineral density Most of the side effects are not common. Change in the menstrual cycle is the most common side effect. You may experience irregular bleeding or spotting. After a year of use, about 50% of women will stop getting their periods. Their periods usually return when they discontinue the shots.
Avatar n tn We chose the Provera. Last night I took the last pill... I was told to take it for 5 days and then I should start my period again. She said if this period lasts longer than 2 weeks to come back. I haven't started up again yet, but it hasn't even been 24 hours since my last dose. So hopefully this turns out well.
