Depo provera and weight gain acne

Common Questions and Answers about Depo provera and weight gain acne

depo-provera

Avatar n tn Yes, Depo Provera can and often does make you gain weight. Lots of people have used it and gained weight on it.
Avatar n tn I don't know why this would make you lose weight, but it will have no interaction at all with birth control whether pills or Depo Provera. Depo Provera has been implicated with weight gain. Some say it is the increased appetite due to the potent progestin, but probably more than that. Some women won't gain an ounce, but others will put it on very quickly. The number of meds that actually have the potential to make birth control less effective is very short.
Avatar f tn I've noticed I've gained alot of weight. I'm getting acne, I'm tired all the time and I feel like a blob that doesn't want to get out of bed. Anyone exsperienced this?
Avatar f tn Yes, you can loose Depo Provera Weight and get your looks back. The reason you gained the weight is the Depo. Please know it is not your fault. Depo causes insulin resistance, Metabolic syndrome (syndrome X) and ovarian cysts in some women. You were smart to discontinue it. Please Google insulin resistance. You can drop these pounds using low carb and zero carb diets. It won't take long.
Avatar n tn your weight gain is from the residual depo provera in your body. If you get another shot, you will have more in your body. You lost weight because you didn't have much in your system yet. I didn't gain weight for months after starting because I am naturally thin, but if you realize it is a hormone that your body makes after pregnancy, then you will understand how it works. If you continue to take it you will look pregnant, have cravings, and get irritable in no time flat.
Avatar n tn I have been on this birth control now, the second time around, for 6 months and feel great! No weight gain, no crazy head aches and what not. I actually feel better on the shot than I do off of it. I think that every form of birth control works completely different with each woman depending on their own body type. Mine loves the Depo, other's hate it. I think it is something you just need to try for yourself. It's not always the best idea to make decisions based on other individual's judgments.
Avatar n tn I HATE Depo!!! I did ONE shot and had the whole bag full of side effects, WEIGHT GAIN, acne, mood swings, sleep loss, and many other terrible symptoms, it's been a year now and I have been going to doctors trying to get back to normal. I had to get on progesterone to get a cycle and that worked one time. Finally I started my own cycle all by myself! I have HIGH hopes of TTC. If ANYONE reads this DO NOT get on Depo, the negatives outweigh the positives.
432411 tn?1206475709 I've been on the depo for about 15 years or more straight and I use to get tender breast, weight gain and that is about hit. I just got tested for menopause and thyroid and my test came back negative. Even though I have been experiencing sweating through out the day and night, I'm hot the majority of the time, I have mood swings, I get cold spells, constipation, and forget sex but according to my doctor I am not in menopause.
Avatar n tn First I started going through a depression and I was always treating my husband horribly and of course the weight gain.
Avatar n tn you can always call your pharmacist and ask to make sure. My husband and I are TTC and I took the Depo shot twice and stopped 11/04 and then started BCP till 8/05 and havent had a period since except with provera. I think the Depo is still in my system and is screwing everything up. I hope the provera works for you and best of luck with the clomid.
Avatar n tn *raises hand* I've had nothing BUT problems since going off Depo about 3 and half years ago. SEVERE weight gain (almost immediately), period problems, depression, problems before and after periods (diarahhea, naseau)....also pretty severe acne.... But I never DID get pregnant....*sigh* I wish there was a civil lawsuit against Depo because its pretty much ruined my life....
Avatar n tn all the weight gain from depo has depo in it!!! do your best to lose any weight gained on it and drink lots of water. feel free to e-mail me and i can answer any questions you might have. love and hugs....
Avatar f tn My gyno suggested continual birth control pills or Depo Provera shot. I am too worried about the weight gain as a side affect from the depo shot. Still doing my research....
Avatar n tn small boned frame went from 150 lbs to 190 lbs so fast! My PCP gave me a lecture on my weight gain and ordered TSH and CBC twice. They all came back within normal limits. In addition to the weight gain similar to those posted here, I have been having lower right abdominal pain and pain above my belly button. When the doctor pressed near the belly button, I felt pain there and it radiated to my lower right abdomoen. I had a CT scan which showed normal apendix and gall bladder.
Avatar f tn All was well for the first month, then the excruciating migraines, cramps, mood swings and severe weight gain came on (40lbs in one month!!!) and my hair began to fall out. So when Sept. 3rd came about, I chose NOT to get another shot. And that very afternoon, my period began. It ended on Jan. 3rd of 2011. I have not had a single period since, but have had constant cramping daily. During my 4 month period, the entire lining of my uterus shed in one solid piece.
Avatar m tn Btw, she has been seeing her doctors for years now about her struggle to lose any weight and also has irregular periods, some acne and problems with regular bad stomachs/tiredness. Any help much apprecated as she's very depressed about it.
Avatar n tn but meds affect people in all different ways I just started taking it for pcos and insulin resistance has only been a couple days so far so Ill let you all know, but pcos cause weight gain and the insulin resistance causes the pcos so the insulin resistance is treated first with metformin which should help with the weight loss because you need to loose weight in order for the pcos to get better and the resistance problem goes away......................
Avatar f tn http://www.drugs.com/pdr/provera.html#ixzz0p34uv1bA Side effects cannot be anticipated. If any develop or change in intensity, inform your doctor as soon as possible. Only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking Provera.
Avatar n tn Therefore, it is always recommended that you should not use this contraceptive for more than two years. Women are also advised to exercise and take in a lot of calcium while using this method. Weight gain is another side effect that has been observed in more than 70% of women using depo-provera. The gain may vary from 5 to 10 pounds, making regular exercise all the more important. Other depo-provera side effects include: Irregular, heavy or loss of menstrual cycle.
Avatar n tn it's so disgusting and I feel so embarrassed. mood swings, cramps, bleeding, headaches, weight gain, bad acne. I would never recommend depo to anyone! ever! i keep reading these post with thousands of woman who go through the same thing bc of depo. and my doctor says continue to get the shot, I didn't, I only got it once!
Avatar n tn 70% of women using Depo Provera gain weight. Almost half of the women using Depo Provera gain more than 5 pounds after one year of use. Many women gain more than 10 pounds. Irregular, heavy, or no bleeding are common side effects of Depo Provera. After a year of use, many women stop having periods. Lack of a period becomes increasingly common with longer use.
Avatar f tn It took effect almost immediately, and as far as I can tell, has worked as described. And the reports of weight gain never really materialized. If anything, I've actually lost a few pounds, though, of course, it's hard to isolate the depo shot as the sole cause of that, as a number of life changes have come around the same time. Since my spouse and I had that big fight I've been cooking for myself again, and I've got to admit that I skip quite a few meals.
Avatar f tn You need to speak to your doctor about the side effects of the Depo Provera such as bone loss, weight gain and acne. I didnt think I had this problem until I broke my fingers the other day. The Depo Provera shot is only recommended for use for 2 to 3 years, but no longer than that. Bleeding could be caused by irritation, could be a ruptured cyst on the ovary or cervix, or you could just have what they call "breakthrough bleeding".
Avatar f tn Irregular menstrual periods, or no periods at all Headaches Nervousness Depression Dizziness Acne Changes in appetite Weight gain Excessive growth of facial and body hair Hair loss Loss of bone mineral density Most of the side effects are not common. Change in the menstrual cycle is the most common side effect. You may experience irregular bleeding or spotting. After a year of use, about 50% of women will stop getting their periods. Their periods usually return when they discontinue the shots.
1467678 tn?1370945132 i had problems with acne and hairiness hence different pills, and i experienced depression and moodiness on different pills. Nuvaring ( I got continuous uti infections from having this inside me) Implanon- no sex drive at all ( relationship issues due to that) Depo provera injection worked for me was happy with this but I'm not sure its suitable to my above conditions.
1344197 tn?1392822771 Progesterones may increase breast cancer risk, promote weight gain, cause depression, increase cholesterol, and do not prevent bone loss. The use of testosterone in menopausal women has been studied and shows some benefit at low doses to treat vasomotor symptoms and decreased libido. Higher dosages have been associated with elevated cholesterol, triglycerides, male pattern hair growth, and acne. So what are the FDA-approved Bioidentical Hormones?
Avatar n tn After this month I'm not taking Yaz anymore. I never gain weight and I'm a healthy eater and I've been gaining weight, 3lbs. w/in the first 2 months, then 2 more lbs. in the next month and I'm very, very bloated. On my body the weight shows, I'm not very tall. I also feel so much rage in general but especially the week before my period I could just kill someone. I hate these pills and have only heard awful stories from other people and tried to give them a chance, but the pills suck!
Avatar n tn seems i may have a Thyroid problem as well because along with the Overly depressed moments in my life, i also have extreme back and body pains, Always very tired and feeling Lowest of the low, random weight gain, over 30lbs despite any eating changes... and after coming to this site, i forgot my Birth control may have something to do with it.Whether or not it has a small part or the overall reason for all my struggles.......
Avatar f tn I was due for my second shot, but because of bad side effects (weight gain, acne, bleeding, etc) I chose to switch to birth control pills. I took my first pill on November 13 and have been taking them everydat since. I have NEVER missed a pill. I have had unprotected sex, but likr before, he always pulled out. Anyway, my period was due yesterday, but never came. Ive gotten some brown stringy discharge and clotting, but no bright red blood and its definately not a period.
5484624 tn?1368658463 The only guaranteed way that you won't get pregnant is if you do not have sex. The side effects of Depo-provera is weight gain, loss of calcium in developing bones as well as: •Irregular, heavy or loss of menstrual cycle. The chances of getting periods reduces the longer you take the injections, though normal cycles should resume within 14 weeks of stopping the birth control.
