Stopping depo provera and weight gain

Common Questions and Answers about Stopping depo provera and weight gain

Avatar n tn So far I have not started to spot and have been feeling nauseous, is nausea a common side affect of stopping the depo or could it be something else?
Avatar n tn your weight gain is from the residual depo provera in your body. If you get another shot, you will have more in your body. You lost weight because you didn't have much in your system yet. I didn't gain weight for months after starting because I am naturally thin, but if you realize it is a hormone that your body makes after pregnancy, then you will understand how it works. If you continue to take it you will look pregnant, have cravings, and get irritable in no time flat.
Avatar f tn I had used Depo for 3 years and never had any issues. I didnt gain wait, or anything. The only minor side effects I did have was mild cramping after the shot, and headaches. Although once I got off depo that was different. My hair started to fall out, I gained weight, headaches were worse and so on. This pregnancy happened 2 months after being off birth control completely, and while hubby had a vesectomy. So the only real birth control i think is no sex.....
Avatar n tn Yes, Depo Provera can and often does make you gain weight. Lots of people have used it and gained weight on it.
Avatar f tn Yes, you can loose Depo Provera Weight and get your looks back. The reason you gained the weight is the Depo. Please know it is not your fault. Depo causes insulin resistance, Metabolic syndrome (syndrome X) and ovarian cysts in some women. You were smart to discontinue it. Please Google insulin resistance. You can drop these pounds using low carb and zero carb diets. It won't take long.
Avatar n tn How long does it take to get your period after stopping depo provera injections? When is it safe to start conceiving?
Avatar f tn I had no issues back then. Well jump ahead to 28 and I decided to go back on it. After 6 months I noticed slight weight gain and some bloating so I decided to stop. That was Oct. 2011 and now it is March 2012 and I have gained 15 pounds and I have constant bloating and uncomfortableness in my stomach. This is every day and has affected my life to the point where I am extremely depressed about it.
Avatar n tn hi i was on the shot for 2 years and experienced all kinds of problems.Your body has to get rid of all the chemicals before your period will come and be normal.Advice to you i wouldnt get back on the shot if you were already on it for 2 months.Because after the first year of me being on it is when i started having lots of problems.Just give your body time and you will be normal soon.Hope this helps.
Avatar f tn Goodman, I wonder if you have any information about how Depo-Provera can change the symptoms of ovarian cancer v. ovarian cysts? I have been on Depo-Provera for two years and it seems that it would mask all the symptoms that are most likely to identify a cyst vs. a tumour. Do you know anything about how the two would look different in the presence of Depo-Provera?
432411 tn?1206475709 I've been on the depo for about 15 years or more straight and I use to get tender breast, weight gain and that is about hit. I just got tested for menopause and thyroid and my test came back negative. Even though I have been experiencing sweating through out the day and night, I'm hot the majority of the time, I have mood swings, I get cold spells, constipation, and forget sex but according to my doctor I am not in menopause.
Avatar f tn Side effects cannot be anticipated. If any develop or change in intensity, inform your doctor as soon as possible. Only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking Provera.
Avatar n tn Hi, I was on depo for 3 months but it didn't agree with me. I had weight gain and moodiness and lower back pain, like I was trying to have a period. Hopefully you won't experience any of this. I'm one of those people who doesn't do well on BC pills either, so I could be an exception to the rule. Let us know how you do.
202436 tn?1326477933 i was on the depo provera for a while and in my own personal oppinion i hated it i gained lots of weight, major mood swings, no sex drive at all i felt so depressed when i was on it i think i had 3 shots then gave it up the only good thing about the depo you dont have af. some people may like and may have a different opinion but i hated it.
Avatar n tn First I started going through a depression and I was always treating my husband horribly and of course the weight gain.
Avatar f tn Anyone know why Depo makes you gain weight after stopping it? How do you stop it besides eating healthy and exercise? I’m at my wits end. Any advice is appreciated. TIA!
Avatar n tn you can always call your pharmacist and ask to make sure. My husband and I are TTC and I took the Depo shot twice and stopped 11/04 and then started BCP till 8/05 and havent had a period since except with provera. I think the Depo is still in my system and is screwing everything up. I hope the provera works for you and best of luck with the clomid.
215385 tn?1201806501 Believe me I didn't want to go on birth control I wanted to have a baby, but when you're on depo, you don't ovulate, and since I had a cyst from the depo I wasn't ovulating even if the depo was out of my system, she put me on bc and the first month on it, is the first month I ovulated in 5 1/2 years and I got preggo!
Avatar n tn all the weight gain from depo has depo in it!!! do your best to lose any weight gained on it and drink lots of water. feel free to e-mail me and i can answer any questions you might have. love and hugs....
Avatar n tn During that time I called the Dr. 3 times and told her that I thought it was making me gain the weight and she said no, and she wanted to up it from 40mgs to 80mgs. but when I hit 193lbs, I threw the med. in the trash. I have only lost 20lbs and I am so upset I was wearing size 4 jeans last year and now I wear a size 12. It seems no matter what I do I can't get it off. I'm afraid to eat anything.
Avatar n tn small boned frame went from 150 lbs to 190 lbs so fast! My PCP gave me a lecture on my weight gain and ordered TSH and CBC twice. They all came back within normal limits. In addition to the weight gain similar to those posted here, I have been having lower right abdominal pain and pain above my belly button. When the doctor pressed near the belly button, I felt pain there and it radiated to my lower right abdomoen. I had a CT scan which showed normal apendix and gall bladder.
Avatar n tn Have you gained weight while on the depo shot??? If so, then you need to lose that weight because the depo is stored in the fat you gained while on the shot. You must get all depo completely out of your body before you will return to normal cycles. There is a woman on here, Kimmy n Angus, that will be able to tell you alot more and you can scroll through the archives to read more.
Avatar f tn Hi, I have been gaining weight after discontinuing depo provera and adderall 30mg. I have been gaining wait rapidly, it's really quite scary. I was 122lb in December and after weighing in on October 15th I am not 182lb! A few months ago I was 153.. Doctors I've seen tell me to "eat healthy and exercise." Well, I already do that. I always have been healthy and involved in sports. My weight is getting to be very uncomfortable.
Avatar n tn and it was due on July and I haven't got my period back now my Dr put me on bcp and I have weight gain and don't matter what I do I can't lose weight! I haven't got my period back is that normal??
Avatar n tn but meds affect people in all different ways I just started taking it for pcos and insulin resistance has only been a couple days so far so Ill let you all know, but pcos cause weight gain and the insulin resistance causes the pcos so the insulin resistance is treated first with metformin which should help with the weight loss because you need to loose weight in order for the pcos to get better and the resistance problem goes away......................
Avatar n tn i was suppose to get my depo shot at the end of august, but decided not to due to weight gain and such, so I got my period within a couple weeks after missing the shot due date, now it is march and my periods have been lasting 3-4 weeks! I think the longest i have went was 6 days without a peiod, the rest has been awful, and just this last month, i have been bleeding heavily for 2 1/2 weeks, not good. I am definately feeling the effects- light headed, weak, tired easy and dizzy.
Avatar n tn Sometimes salt can be the culprit in fast weight gain. And depending on your weight, the norm is said to be 25-35 lbs. I have only known a few girls who have gained the low end with their pg. Most women I know have gained 30+ lbs. It may be a good idea to lay off the sweets or substitute them with healthier alternatives (raisins instead of candy, etc). A good book to check out is What to Eat When You Are Expecting. It offers many healthy (and tasty) recipes that fit well with pregnancy.
Avatar n tn Some of you have mentioned going back on the shot in order to regulate the weight gain and even lose weight. I'm thinking about doing the same as I'm not planning to have children and so using birth control is fine for me. Has anyone gone back on Depo for this reason? To lose weight? If so, has it worked? Please share your experiences. Thank you!
Avatar n tn Therefore, it is always recommended that you should not use this contraceptive for more than two years. Women are also advised to exercise and take in a lot of calcium while using this method. Weight gain is another side effect that has been observed in more than 70% of women using depo-provera. The gain may vary from 5 to 10 pounds, making regular exercise all the more important. Other depo-provera side effects include: Irregular, heavy or loss of menstrual cycle.
Avatar n tn Depo Provera messes with your hormones and either you can bleed constantly once stopping or not bleed at all. It can take about 12-18 months to get out of your system (however this is not true for everyone, some get pregnant the 1st month they stop the shot). I was bleeding constantly while on the shot and as soon as it was time for me to get my next one I switched to BCP's. My dr said this was fine and it would help my periods become regular after the depo.
