Avatar m tn took pregnancy test which came to be negative and got the Depo on the 19th as well, Is it likely that It was my period, if so would the depo shot be effective immediately? or how long do i have to wait to have unprotected sex without getting pregnant?
Avatar n tn How effective is the depo provera birth control shot? ( Is it 'ok' to do it without a condom every once in a while, WITHOUT him going inside me?
Avatar f tn I was on depo vera and I had sex 2 weeks after like my doctor said I could. I was off it for 2 years before I finally got pregnant. I dont advise that type of birth control just because I gained soooo much wait and I worked out at the gym. Also caused alot of health problems for me and once I was ready to have a baby it took me forever!!
432411 tn?1206475709 I was on Depo Provera for BC for 8 years with no side effects but headaches, which were manageable. Also had no periods, which was great! However, I became ill when I stopped having the injections at age 45. I experienced fatigue, joint pain and swelling, and depression. I was tested for everything from Lyme disease and Lupus, to thyroid conditons - all negative. My Dr. finally gave up and diagnosed me with Chronic Fatigue syndrome.
Avatar n tn My doctor recomended the Pill first but after not being able to remember to take it due to my active schedule he told me about Depo Provera. I started it and immediately loved it because i had no period at all after 3 months. Very rarely over the last 7 years i would spot but never enough to do anything about it and just figured it due to stress. It high school i was very active, track, basketball, volleyball anything.
Avatar n tn Contraceptive effectiveness is achieved within 24 hours of receiving Depo-Provera. Depo-Provera should be administered during the first five days of a normal menstrual cycle (in order to avoid inadvertent administration during pregnancy) and/or immediately following pregnancy termination. Depo-Provera may also be administered at any time, and with no added precautions if the woman is currently on the combined oral contraceptive pill or the progestin only pill and is definitely not pregnant.
Avatar f tn some people on this forum gained immediately and some even lost...Depo Provera does it's most damage in the long run, and is sneaky....and remember I wrote in previous posts that no amount of exercising and even severe dieting didn't help. I had stepped up my exercise 80% and had a personal trainer as well. I later found that exercise and diet is not the factors involved in the DP weight gain, but the actual fact that that much hormone should not be in the system of a non-pregnant female.
Avatar n tn I have been on depo for 11 years. I would be due for my next shot on 9/27 but my Doctor has advised that I stop having it. She has been treating me for migraines and depression with Imitrex (when needed) and a daily dosage of Prozac of 10mg. The Imitrex thankfully, works, and the migraines have also been lessened by the Prozac.
Avatar n tn My friend was given a depo provera shot during time of conception. She was given one three months later and given one again three months later. So that was three shots. She was always given the urine test first. The third time they called her back after giving the urine test and shot and told her she needed to do the urine test again. Then they told her she was pregnant.
Avatar n tn I used depo provera injections for two and a half years. It's been over a year since my last injection. within the first six months after stopping the shot I gained 40lbs without a change in my diet and excercise.I was told this was unusual to gain after stopping the shot and that i may never lose the weight. Is this true? or is the only way to go back on the shot because while i was on the shot i actually lost weight.but if that's the answer won't i be trapped on the shot forever?
Avatar f tn I have been on the Depo Provera shot for one year - before I say anything else I should mention to you that it's more immediately effective if they give you the shot in your hip like they recommend, not in your arm. I have had no normal periods while on it; on a rare occasion I will have a small amount of blood when I wipe after going to the bathroom (sorry if that detail was gross).
Avatar n tn I was on the depo-provera shot for 3 years. After coming off of it, it took me 3 additional years to become pregnant. This was in fact a very effective form of birth control but had some very angry, fattening side effects. I wish you all the best of luck as this has not only been my case, but i do know a few other women who suffered the same re precautions.
Avatar m tn So on June 3rd, I received my first Depo Provera injection while on my period, so I was told it would be effective immediately. I felt fine, a little queasy for a week or so after, but no big deal.
Avatar n tn I have had endo for over ten years now and after a few surgeries and depo provera i finally put my foot down along with my husband and said Enough is enough, i couldnt live like that any longer! so i started Lucrin in Jan and i've got my last injection in a few days time. I was terrified of going on it after reading side effects but...the hot flushes, night sweats, headaches and feeling pregnant lol are nothing compared to how much pain i was in before!
Avatar f tn Hi there, There are chances that your are pregnant if you had sex during the period when the doctor had advised you to use additional method of contraception. Depo is almost 99% effective in preventing pregnancy. The birth control effect of Depo begins immediately after the first shot if it is given within the first five days of your menstrual period.
Avatar f tn Birth control with Depo-Provera begins immediately after the first shot if given within the first five days of your menstrual period. How Effective Is Depo-Provera? Depo-Provera is 99% effective in preventing pregnancy. Again, it does not prevent spreading of STDs. To help protect yourself from STDs, use a latex male condom each time you and your partner have sex.
Avatar f tn Hi there, If a woman receives her first shot within the first 5 days of her period she is immediately protected against pregnancy so no back-up method is required.Depo Provera is almost 97% to 99.7% effective in preventing pregnancy. The chances of pregnancy are unlikely. For more queries and assistance visit your gynecologist. I sincerely hope it helps. Best luck and take care!
801413 tn?1333542876 How long did it take, what method were you using? Estimate from the time the contraception was no longer "effective" (24 hours after the pill, 13 weeks after depo provera, immediately after IUD removal, immediately after stopping condom use) Long-term methods for this poll would include the hormonal IUD, Depo Provera (the shot), and Implanon or other birth control implants. I'm considering the copper IUD under daily and non-hormonal because it does not interrupt the ovulatory cycle.
5951805 tn?1377257012 I got the depo provera shot back in like may or June and I've had sexual activity but ever since I last had sex which was back in June I've had non stop brown discharge and I haven't gotten on my period yet. I'm worried and scared with me being 17 and all. What should I do? Is this normal?
1229507 tn?1294026330 Depo Provera is one of the most effective methods for this age group. IUDs are sometimes used with good results too, the problem is that until the young ladies "settle down" they are at risk for STIs which are problematic when an IUD is in place. There is also a contraceptive called Implanon which is inserted under the skin and lasts up to 3 years. It can be very frustrating to be in your situation. I think if it were my daughter, I would strongly consider the Implanon.
Avatar f tn Since my diagnosis, I have undergone 2 laparoscopic procedures, one at 19 and one at 24. I was also prescribed the Depo-Provera shot, which I was on for a little over 10 years. With the shot I did notice a few negative side effects, such as irritability and loss of sex drive, however its ability to eliminate my periods and work effectively in preventing the pain and symptoms associated with endometriosis has been incredible and def. outweighs the negative-BIG time!
Avatar f tn I got depo provera for a few years and had no issues - no weight gain, no skin issues, no periods, no hormonal problems. I had some insurance issues so switched to just condoms for several years until my husband and I decided to have baby #1.
Avatar n tn You can have it while nursing, it lasts for 5 years, and if you decide to TTC again, as soon as they remove it your fertility returns immediately. Another option is the depo-provera shot. Definitely research that long and hard before deciding. I loved it before having kids but when I was on it PP with my oldest it killed my sex drive (I guess it was effective birth control, lol) I am now almost 14 months PP and still haven't had a period! God bless the IUD.
Avatar f tn Well you may need to be a bit flexible w/ the natural route. I loooooved being on Depo Provera shots. I was on it for a few years into my 30's. It was so easy- a quick shot every 3 months. It cost me $50 at Planned Parenthood. I had no side effects besides no period (which I loved). It is a very effective method of birth control. I liked the convenience of not having to take a pill everyday (they made me nauseaus anyway) and having to buy them each month.
Avatar f tn I have been on Depo Provera for about 6 months now and about 3 weeks ago my bf and I had unprotected sex. He never ejaculated, but I'm sure there was pre. A couple days later I started to feel funny -- dizzy, nauseous, headaches... then i started to bleed. I figured I was pregnant becuase of these symptoms, then a couple days later (this would be the 5th day after sex) I immediately didn't feel any of those symptoms anymore, I felt normal.
Avatar f tn Its effects are mostly local, confined to the uterus, unlike the pills which act systemically. There's also Depo Provera, which is a progesterone only (most pills have estrogen as well as progesterone) once every 3 months shot, and is quite effective if you get it on time. I don't know what it does to acne. There's also the implants, which go under your skin and last for several years. You should talk to your gynecologist about switching.
Avatar f tn I got the Depo Provera shot three days before I went on vacation. I got the shot off of my period, which isn't recommended, because I was going out of town. The doctor told me to take condoms with me because it would take a while for the shot to kick in, especially since I got it off of my period and since it was my first time. I didn't use any other protection because it was very spontaneous and I figured we were covered somewhat.
Avatar n tn So I called my doctor and she said that she is going to put me on Provera to start my period and then I can start Clomid after that. I am just getting really frusterated, that I have to wait another 2 weeks to start the Provera, it's just taking longer then I had hoped. I am starting to feel like it's never gonna happen! Does anyone have any words of encouragement? ~*~*~*~~*~*~*Baby Dust to all the same boat as me just waiting for that BFP!
Avatar n tn Hi First, here is info on Depo: What "The Shot" Is and How It Works Depo-Provera is the brand name of a prescription method of reversible birth control. It is a hormone like progesterone, one of the hormones that regulates the menstrual cycle. It is called depot- medroxyprogesterone acetate (DMPA). A shot of DMPA in the buttock or arm can prevent pregnancy for 12 weeks.
