Common Questions and Answers about Depo provera and hormones

depo-provera

Avatar n tn You can get irregular bleeding when you first start the Depo-Provera, but if you have never had this heavy bleeding before you should consult your doctor as soon as possible. They can check some hormones and examine you to make sure everything is OK.

Avatar f tn I've been on Depo Provera for almost a year but i've decided to not get my next shot in two weeks i'm not wanting to get pregnant anytime soon but I'm wondering how long will it take for the Hormones to leave my body and what kind of side effects should I expect?
Avatar n tn depo provera effects every one different. when i was on it, it stopped my af all together. however when my mother in law went on it she had af for an entire month. you long bleeding could be your body trying to clear out your system from delivery. if it persists give the doc a call and ask. there are no stupid questions.
4069776 tn?1349521984 Hello, I was on depo provera for 9 years, I had my last shot in Jan 2012 and was suppose to come get my next shot April 2012, My doctor informed me that it would be fine for me to just stop taking it because I did so well while I was on it and that I should be fine coming off of it, well I didnt. I had horrible side effects from July and they are still happening now, I have had every test done (ultrasounds, blood test, endoscopes, ect.) and everything came back normal.
Avatar n tn when i first went on depo i did that. i chalk it up to my system clearing out. after a couple of months it stopped and i never had a period again until i stopped taking it all together of course.

Avatar n tn The docotors believe I may have a progesterone problem due to Depo Provera. I was on Depo for 6 years and went off the shot in Sept. Does anyone know if the effects of this shot can linger and cause lower progesterone levels?
Avatar n tn I don't know why this would make you lose weight, but it will have no interaction at all with birth control whether pills or Depo Provera. Depo Provera has been implicated with weight gain. Some say it is the increased appetite due to the potent progestin, but probably more than that. Some women won't gain an ounce, but others will put it on very quickly. The number of meds that actually have the potential to make birth control less effective is very short.
1962842 tn?1325399182 I was on the depo for almost 3 years. Stopped my period completely with it but it does have very bad side effects that effect your bones you will notice right away and in the future. Ive heard the implanon is good but has alot of hormones so....
Avatar f tn I'm 17, and recently became sexually active. I decided to go on depo to protect myself from pregnancy. I got it on Nov 4 2011, I experienced no symptoms until Dec 6 2011. I started spotting, at first it didn't even require a pad or tampon. It gradually increased and stopped occasionaly for a day or two, I gained 10 pounds and started getting horrible headaches, right leg pains, loss of appetite, painful intercourse(before the bleeding), and mood swings. Now the blood is regular period blood.
Avatar f tn I haven't had a period this month at all (April) and have had sore breasts for two weeks. I think it is just my hormones messing with me again, because all tests are negative. Or maybe it is too early? I don't know, but I am going crazy thinking that I am pregnant already!
Avatar n tn i took that stupid shot one time and didn't have a period for 10 months. Go to your local GNC and buy V I T E X. Its safe and it will make you ovulate and regulate you cycles. It really works. I took it for a week and my period started an I started ovulating. You can start right after... just take this pill once a day and it will incress your chances. I hope this helps.
290291 tn?1258156913 My gyne offered me the depo shot in march of 2007 because i was 23, on loestrin24, effexor, and metroprolol(blood pressure med), and i still had high blood pressure, in fear of me having a stroke at 23 my gyne mentioned the oh glorious depo provera(yea right), i got my shot in march and one in may, my hubbys in the military and we had to move to texas but before we left i had a gyne visit and my pap came up abnormal again which it was fine for a yr, until i started depo?
Avatar n tn I would like to know if there are any studies about what happens when a woman hits menopause after long-term use of Depo-Provera? I am only 25, but have been on the Depo shot for 8 years now. My mother is starting menopause, and as I read about the mechanics of it, I began to wonder how I might experience menopause later on. Information on Depo explains that the egg is prevented from maturing and passing through the natural reproductive cycle.
Avatar f tn Hi, I am a 21 year old female and i was on the Depo Provera shot from september 2009 and got my last shot in june of 2011. I was due for another shot in september 2011, but due to myself wanting to lose weight, i got off of it. I had then got my period October 28th, 2011 and that lasted until around Nov 7th. I had then gotten my period for a second time around the 13 or 14th of November, then AGAIN for a 3rd time on November 27th and that stayed until December 4th.
Avatar f tn Ive been on the depo shot for a little over 4 years now and want to swith to the implanon implant in your arm. i havent really had any side effects from the shot since the first few months i got it except ongoing migraines all the time. i like the shot im just not planning on getting pregnant anytime soon so i figure i should change so i dont have to worry about getting the shot every few months plus im losing health insurance in a few mmonths and dont wanna have to pay for it all the time.
Avatar f tn He told me that he was going to try the Depo Provera shot, because that would be a more effective pain reducer and would help the endo from not coming back. I took the shot in the middle of December 2013, and started bleeding the beginning of January. I was not due to take the next shot until March, but I was still bleeding in February consistently. I called the doctor again and said that I was still bleeding, and they told me that I could either come and take the 2nd shot early or wait it out.
Avatar n tn Hi! I'm new to this so please bare with me! I had depo provera injections from Apr 06 - Mar 07 (last one). BF & I have been actively TTC since then - My periods stopped at the 2nd injection and I have not had one since Aug 06. I have had a blood test in Aug which showed estridol 124pg/ml (in the follicular phase) and some more blood tests this week for prolactin which was normal, FSH - 4, LH - 5, and Estridol 489pg/ml. But sill no periods.
Avatar f tn Hi Im a 20 year old female and I had two 3-month interval shots of the Depo-provera birth control last year. I had my last shot in early October 07 following a 2 week period approximately a week later. I havent had my menstrual cycle since? l've addressed my doctor when I went for a totally different thing and she said it could take a year to get it back? Is this correct?Thank you!
Avatar n tn If some of you aren't doing your temps, maybe think about starting them because it helps you see what your body is going through month to month. In all honesty ladies, we played with our hormones when we did the Depo and it may take time for our bodies to get back to normal & those hormones back into that delicate balance.
Avatar n tn Then I was diagnosed with osteopenia, hypothyroidism, Hashimoto's thyroiditis, and NOW depo-induced menopause. Are they all related to depo-provera use? I was taking it for 5 years. In what order do I treat this set of disorders? Why is my jaw the primary target? Will the bone loss stop, reverse? My endocrinologist said I should be taking hormone-replacement therapy, but that's what started me on this road to begin with! Help! I really don't want to have menopause twice. Any suggestions?
Avatar f tn There's no way to tell for sure, but more and more proof is coming out that autism is NOT linked to vaccines, and because depo provera is an active hormone shot and not a vaccine, I highly doubt that it is the cause. Are your other children girls by any chance? Very often a family that has an autistic child only has 1 (almost always a boy), and the rest of the children are "normal". They are thinking more and more that it's a genetic mutation.
Avatar n tn I had a previous post about wondering if I am pregnant or not, but I am also wondering if it is possible for me to get pregnant so soon. In May of 2004 I begin the Depo-Provera shot and then got my second shot in August, before my third shot in November I decided to switch to the pill due to some complications. So I have been on the pill since mid November of 2004. I know that Depo-Provera can stay in your system anywhere from 12 to 24 months. My husband and I have recently decided to TTC.
Avatar f tn My doctor doesn't know what to do, and keeps saying it's stress and denies it ever being caused by the depo shot. I read somewhere that the depo shot is given to molesters to decrease their desire to have sex. I don't know if that's true but if it is, that is pretty good proof. I've had no sex drive since I was 16 and I'm 21 now!!! I get so frustrated, and often times cry after attempting to have sex because it's so frustrating to me.
