dandruff

Avatar m tn My 7 yr old female cat has developed what appears to be dandruff thick skin flakes that slough off. Is this a cat's allergy or a dietary problem?
277836 tn?1359666174 Dandruff is just the shedding of dead skin cells to expose new cells and is not only normal but necessary. If the shedding is excessive, it may indicate a prior buildup of dead cells that were not properly shed. I agree with others that shampooing is not beneficial and dries out the skin. Frequent light brushing is far better for removing dead cells as well as stimulating oil production.
436973 tn?1217947089 The past couple of days I've noticed my cat has a lot of dandruff. she has had a little flakiness before, but this is quite a bit. Is this something I should be concerned about?
17551709 tn?1457744886 I have had dandruff for years. I tried washing my hair with different shampoos, tried washing my hair multiple times per day and even tried several different anti-dandruff shampoos without success. Now I'm going to start using home remedies like apple cider vinegar.
1608004 tn?1390770990 All you need to do is go to your local pet store and buy a special shampoo for cats for dandruff, itchiness, and dry skin. And, you can buy some salmon oil or omega 3 oil for cats and give her a half teaspoon a day in her food. This should really help a lot. I have done it myself and my cat looks great!
535822 tn?1443976780 She came in wet and I ot a towel to dry her, I noticed many white bits on her fur, got the wire brush and brushed her, it looks like dandruff do, cats get that ,its not flea eggs as when I looked through the magnifying glass you can se its like of flaky bits.. Avatar f tn t afford a vet can anyone give me some home remedies for her please there were no blood when this happened....
Avatar n tn The dandruff is better when I cut hair short. Sometimes the itching is so irritating that I want to cut hair off!
20900786 tn?1598014440 I hope you can help. I have what I can only describe as huge, thick wad of dead, dry skin on my scalp above m my forehead. It feels awful and it's so irritating. Nothing will make it go away, not even a special shampoo a dermatologist prescribed. It's been awhile since I was seen. What is it, and are there any home remedies I can use? Dandruff shampoo doesn't work.
Avatar m tn My grandma has two female cats that are about 2 years old. The one cat has been losing hair around her front legs and back legs. Has anyone seen this kind of problem before?
485351 tn?1208647497 Our other cat is not experiencing any of the other symptoms except the dandruff near the tail. They are both entirely indoor cats, never left the home unless to visit the vet, so I'm puzzled as to their aquisition of a parasite, if that is the case. I work at home and give them a lot of attention. Any ideas on what may be causing this? We live far from the vet, so another agonizing car ride would be best avoided if at all possible. Thanks for your help.
Avatar f tn It sounds like you have dandruff- which the selsun blue shampoo should help, but sometimes it can be resistant to anti-dandruff shampoos for various reasons. You could try some other brands (such as head and shoulders) or you could try some home remedies- lemon juice or apple cider vinegar. If that doesn't work, you may want to head back to your doctor to see if the flakes are indications of another medical condition- it could be something like eczema.
687194 tn?1244811182 I have a very very itchy and flaky scalp. I have tried all the OTC remedies, Sea Breeze and Tea Tree Oil. It is driving me crazy. I wake up in the middle of the night sratching my head. I do not have this problem anywhere else on my body except the scalp. I have to constantly wipe my clothing off. I color my hair but have for years. I have not changed my shampoo or hair products at all. Can someone tell me about a remedy that will help...I will try just about anything!
Avatar n tn instead the shampoos made my hair loss worse and gave me dandruff. I started experiencing severe burning sensation on my scalp. It felt like someone is pouring acid on it. It even felt painful to move my hair in any direction. It was so excruciating I ended up in the urgent care twice. They ran a bunch of thyroid and hormonal tests which came back fine.
Avatar n tn ve tried over the counter t/gel and other anti dandruff shampoos, but the itching drives me crazy. Any suggestions or home remedies I can benefit from. Thanks in advance.
Avatar f tn Yes I want to know the same thing. Because that was the first question the doc asked me on my first visit, I think it's the dandruff from the cats though. Idk I could be wrong, even though I don't have any cats.

Avatar n tn I've never had any issues with my hair, but all of I've noticed when washing it and brushing it alot more is coming out than normally would. And it is alot thinner in just a couple weeks. My scalp is itchy like no other and I've used ever dandruff shampoo, home remedies, even cortisone cream on my scalp...nothing seems to keep the itch away.
1124398 tn?1263071731 Herpes will cause a cats eyes to run. Yes, some cats eyes just run, but from the sounds of your post, this is something new and unusual for Max. Really, the only way to know for sure is to take Max to the vet. If it's an infection, he will likely be put on Clavamox which is a common antibiotic for cats and not very expensive. Good luck!
Avatar f tn I never heard of it being an issue. I researched cat dangers during pregnancy a long time ago & don't recall hair/dandruff being a concern. I have heard some cats like to snuggle babies and end up suffocating them on accident, but as long as you don't let the cat near the baby while sleeping (keep the door closed) it should be okay. We had to lock our bedroom door because one of our cats (the one we still have) knows how to open doors.
