Common Questions and Answers about Dandruff remedies for cats

dandruff

Avatar m tn Yeah, just a little salmon oil (1/4 t) on the canned food once a day is all it takes. As far as the Omega 6, that's what the natural health experts keep telling us regarding our own health--that too much Omega 6 is bad for us, too. It's interesting that even though there are definite nutritional needs that are different between cats and dog and humans that over all we are still more alike than different.
277836 tn?1359666174 s terrible for the kidneys(this is the number one organ that fails in cats) and it can help form urine crystals, which can cause a urinary blockage(life threatening in male cats). Seriously, all dry food is really bad for cats. There are many members on this forum that would back me up on this AND some have/or are now dealing w/ urinary blockages from the crystals-not fun for kitty and expensive. I know you said that soft food doesn't agree w/ your cat(boots?
436973 tn?1217947089 Well, if you are sure this isn't dander, then it could be mites, fleas, sunburn or sensitivity to something new in the house, like new carpet, or new odor eliminating spray. Anything new in the house that you recall? Usually, winter is a season when many places become extremely dry. What are the humidity levels in your place? If your hands feel very dry, then your cat might be experiencing this as well. Check her for parasites, fleas, mites etc. Is she indoors or outdoors?
17551709 tn?1457744886 I have had dandruff for years. I tried washing my hair with different shampoos, tried washing my hair multiple times per day and even tried several different anti-dandruff shampoos without success. Now I'm going to start using home remedies like apple cider vinegar.
Avatar n tn You can also take vit B6 and vit A and E which are good for hair and skin. Try medicated shampoos for dandruff. There are a number of over-the-counter shampoos available that can help. The most effective ingredients -- antimicrobials -- to look for are zinc pyridinethione, selenium sulfide, sulfur and ketoconazole (also available by prescription). If your hair is colored, don't use products with selenium sulfide or sulfur.
1608004 tn?1390770990 All you need to do is go to your local pet store and buy a special shampoo for cats for dandruff, itchiness, and dry skin. And, you can buy some salmon oil or omega 3 oil for cats and give her a half teaspoon a day in her food. This should really help a lot. I have done it myself and my cat looks great!

Avatar f tn t afford a vet can anyone give me some home remedies for her please there were no blood when this happened....
Avatar n tn Hello and welcome to the forum. Thanks for your post. Ketocanazole shampoo is for fungal issues of the scalp. https://www.healthline.com/health/ketoconazole-shampoos While it helps many people that have flaking of the scalp, it also can cause skin irritation for some. Did a doctor recommend it? A dermatologist is good to talk to about issues related to one's scalp and direction on how to treat it. You may be allergic to ketocanazole shampoo as severe itching is a sign of that.
Avatar n tn Hi, It could be dandruff, which sometimes does affect the armpits or dry skin. Dandruff is due to the excessive shedding of dead skin cells from the scalp. As it is normal for skin cells to die and flake off, a small amount of flaking is normal and in fact quite common. Malassezia(yeast) lives on the scalps of most healthy adults without causing problems.
Avatar n tn But shampoo is usually not sufficient for dandruff, oil needs to compliment it. As of the yellow bumps, they can be either a case of dermatitis or in a more routine and non-severe condition, they can be caused due to sweat or reaction by your regular hair wash. If your home remedies have failed to work, I think consulting a pro would be a better option, since yellow bumps do sound a little unusual! All the best and have a happy recovery!
Avatar f tn It sounds like you have dandruff- which the selsun blue shampoo should help, but sometimes it can be resistant to anti-dandruff shampoos for various reasons. You could try some other brands (such as head and shoulders) or you could try some home remedies- lemon juice or apple cider vinegar. If that doesn't work, you may want to head back to your doctor to see if the flakes are indications of another medical condition- it could be something like eczema.
Avatar m tn Is it possible for cats to get a sort of rug burn? This cat loves to claw the carpet and pull herself forward. I joke that its her mode of transportation. Could it be that she's rubbing her arms against the carpet too much? Creating a type of rug burn or just hair loss?
485351 tn?1208647497 Our other cat is not experiencing any of the other symptoms except the dandruff near the tail. They are both entirely indoor cats, never left the home unless to visit the vet, so I'm puzzled as to their aquisition of a parasite, if that is the case. I work at home and give them a lot of attention. Any ideas on what may be causing this? We live far from the vet, so another agonizing car ride would be best avoided if at all possible. Thanks for your help.
687194 tn?1244811182 t had your thyroid levels checked lately, you may want to do that. There are some prescription remedies for the scalp as well such as Nizoral shampoo (indicated for the reduction of scaling due to dandruff) and Temovate scalp solution (a steroid for short term use to treat inflammatory and itchy manifestations of the scalp). Please make an appointment with your physician for an exam and labs.
20900786 tn?1598014440 I hope you can help. I have what I can only describe as huge, thick wad of dead, dry skin on my scalp above m my forehead. It feels awful and it's so irritating. Nothing will make it go away, not even a special shampoo a dermatologist prescribed. It's been awhile since I was seen. What is it, and are there any home remedies I can use? Dandruff shampoo doesn't work.
Avatar m tn I'm going to give you the following link with the warning I've never actually tried holistic treatment for pets (it's a subject I'm starting to get more interested in). There is an Icelandic herb that's very good for treating infection in cats, but I can't remember the name for the life of me right now. I'll try to jog my memory and get back to you. Be aware that these companies are not federally regulated.
Avatar f tn m working, the lymph node seems to shrink down a lot but when I go back home, later on I feel it enlarged again. Can this be due to allergies? I am allergic to dandruff from cats and dogs and I have 3 cats and 1 dog. I aslo haven't been sick recently. I actually haven't been sick in years. I believe I have a strong immune system.
Avatar n tn Which does not make sense, since I was experiencing hair loss 1 year prior to when the dandruff started (due to use of prescribed shampoos). So he gave me CLOBEX to use for the dandruff. It made my hair loss even more SEVERE and made the dandruff worse. After finishing the Clobex treatment (which did not help) I went off all prescription shampoos and started using all natural Neem shampoo which got rid of the dandruff. But the hair continued to fall.
Avatar n tn ve tried over the counter t/gel and other anti dandruff shampoos, but the itching drives me crazy. Any suggestions or home remedies I can benefit from. Thanks in advance.
Avatar f tn Yes I want to know the same thing. Because that was the first question the doc asked me on my first visit, I think it's the dandruff from the cats though. Idk I could be wrong, even though I don't have any cats.
Avatar f tn thank you for writing. I only feed my cats name brand and dry food. The cat food is the same food week after week . There food is an all you can eat buffet..lol will cold compress help him at all?
1124398 tn?1263071731 ahhh sorry to hear of Max's problems...sir he most likely has an infection and does need to be seen by a vet. There are no home remedies that I know of...maybe someone else will be able to give you more help, but I think a vet would be the best for kitty. let us know how you make out please.

My scalp is itchy like no other and I've used ever dandruff shampoo, home remedies, even cortisone cream on my scalp...nothing seems to keep the itch away.
