Common Questions and Answers about Dandruff causes lice

dandruff

Avatar f tn I started off with an itchy scalp about 4-5 weeks ago - i then noticed i had some dandruff - i wasn't too concerned intil i found myself itching quite a lot - ive had dandruff before and it generally goes soon enough and doesn't cause too much itching. Anyway i started to become paranoid thinking i had lice - as my cousins were visiting i thought perhaps i had got lice from one of them. However nobody was itching but me.
Avatar f tn Ok so for about 3 weeks now I have had an itchy scalp. I thought it was just from dandruff, which I get from this time of year, along with an itchy scalp. However, twice I have found centimeter-sized bugs in my hair when I was taking a shower. My mom has gone through my hair thoroughly three times and has found no bugs, only white flecks, which she can't distinguish dandruff from nit eggs.
890634 tn?1241186679 Hello, It can be due to dandruff which can be due to internal or external causes. Internal causes include hormonal imbalance, poor health, poor hygiene, allergic hypersensitivity, lack of rest, emotional stress, excessive consumption of sugar, fat or starch and heredity predisposition.
Avatar n tn The GP or a chemist could tell u if it is head lice I would think. You would see them crawling around. To me it sounds more like either dandruff or psoriasis.
Avatar f tn I know it isn't dandruff or head lice. I've had my scalp checked several times. It didn't start itching until I was told I had RA a year and a half ago. That's the thing I know. Thanks for your help anyway.
Avatar n tn have you ever had lice? that is what it kinda sounds like, does it ever itch if so go get checked for lice and be sure to ur sugar test scheduled, that is nothing to play around with.
Avatar n tn f you think you have lice, after you wash your hair, rinse it with a mixture of white vinegar and water (half and half). Lice do not like vinegar and will give up residence.
Avatar f tn For what it is worth...here is what I think. First..you must see a dermatologist. Those dandruff shampoos are the worst thing you can try and will most definitely not stop the sort of itching you describe. A lot of things can be causing the intense itch. After much experimenting...i use Clobex...prescribed by my derm. I don't have dandruff...never have...i do have outbreaks of psorisis (spelling?)..but what causes the itch is unimportant to me...stopping it is.
Avatar f tn I've always dealt with dandruff in the winter, but I can't tell if the little white things in my hair are flakes or nits. I did the lice treatment, but nothing showed up when my hair was combed out. I have painful slightly itchy bumps and pimples on my scalp. I'm not insanely itchy, but I know you don't have to be super itchy to have lice. I don't know what else it would be if it's not lice, maybe the treatment didn't work. If it's not lice what is it?
Avatar f tn So I've been having this yellow tube-like things sticking to strands of my hair. My hair is pretty long and very very thick. I think it's head lice, but I NEVER feel the little lice crawling in there, my mom checks my hair on a daily basis very frequently and she sees nothing. I do have dandruff every once in a while though. I admit they do look like head lice nits, but I'm not sure. I think it may be head lice and I'm getting some treatment shampoo tomorrow and trying it.
Avatar f tn My best friend calls Sunday afternoon and tells me she found lice on her daughter. I immeadiately freak out and go and get checked by the nurse nothing but dandruff. I used Rexall,Vinegar, Mayo, Conditioner without evidence of lice. I was wondering if I could have irritated my scalp? I haad my friend look and she only The saw dandruff that disappeared when I washed. my hair. It has been almost three weeks since the incident wouldn't I have known somethig by now?

905256 tn?1245172921 Hello, These dry scabs could have been due to lice or dandruff.Check whether your son’s scalp is infested with liceor dandruff. You may be able to see the lice or nits by parting your child's hair into small sections and checking for lice and nits on the scalp. If there is lice infestation, then pls shampoo the hair with anti lice shampoos which are available over the counter. Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted on how your son is doing or if you have any additional doubts.

Avatar f tn It's called dandruff, The white flakes are dead skin.
Avatar n tn I am a 24 year old woman who has long, thick brown hair. People always tell me how beautiful my hair is and comment on how silky, shiny, and thick it is. All my life I've been able to run my hands through it! About two months ago, the texture of my hair has changed and is more coarse like and is falling out. Now, when I run my hands through my hair, at least 3 to 10 hairs will come out.
Avatar f tn t coming out like dandruff. I tried to pull them off and they were somewhat stuck to the hair shaft like a lice nit. I had four people check my hair, including my doctor, and no bugs were found. I never experienced itching either. Fast forward seven years, and I still notice them sometimes. No, I have not had head lice for seven years. I regularly get my hair done and my stylist would have noticed it 50 times by now. Plus, my husband would have had them for seven years too.
Avatar n tn How do I tell the difference between scabies, lice, bedbugs, tiny white worms, and dandruff flakes?
4251679 tn?1370305531 Have any of you noticed your head bein itchy? I've checked for lice and don't have that. I don't have dandruff so I'm assuming my scalps not dry. What could this be?
Avatar f tn My mum said it might be lice so I’ve bought lice treatment and there still appears to be the white beads. So I don’t think it’s lice. I then tried dandruff shampoo and it didn’t get rid of it either. A few other symptoms are that whenever I wash my hair, a hand full of hair would fall out and I’ve realised how much thinner my hair has become compared to before. Also at night time I would feel once or twice itchiness and sometimes I feel like an insect is crawling on my scalp. Please help!!
Avatar f tn It could simply just be dry skin or dandruff. Find something cream in the pharmacy at your grocery store and see if that helps. The only STD that could even be wouldn't technically be an std is lice like crabs. I imagine you've checked yourself out pretty thoroughly and you would have noticed lice. But I think it is simply dry skin which can be itchy and annoying.
Avatar f tn I have constant dry scalp. It does not flake like Dandruff. I get sore spots all over especiallly along hair line. I had it bad a few years ago, then it got better. It just never cleared up. It hurts to even brush my hair. It has made my hair so dry that I cannot even style it anymore. It feels good after first washing it, but then it starts all over again. It itches too.
Avatar f tn Recently my scalp has been quite itchy, and the back of my neck and ears are red, but I have no flaky dandruff. My father believes that it is an allergic reaction to something that I ate, but I eat the exact same thing every day, so I have ruled that out... I have jumped to the conclusion that I have lice. I am 19, take very good care of my hygiene and clean my surroundings religiously, so this is obviously one of my worst fears.
Avatar f tn If you do not have other signs or symptoms present, his rules out allergic causes. Your condition could be due to skin disorders, fungal infection, stress or head louse. This could be due to contact dermatitis if there is a rash present with the itch. The main causes of contact dermatitis could be a new shampoo, soap, hair dye or hair product, mainly if the product has alcohol in it. It could also be due to seborrheic dermatitis or dandruff.
Avatar f tn My husband died of cancer and it started with swollen lymph nodes in the side of his neck and i am very afraid. could it just be lice or something simple like that? please help.
Avatar n tn My 8 year old has a severe itching scalp but no lice, dandruff or obvious scalp condition. I've used Head and Shoulders dry scalp care and the shampoo with coal tar but nothing helps. Could it be neurological or pyscological? Thanks.
Avatar n tn Hi, The best way to treat dandruff is to use a dandruff shampoo. Look for shampoos with ingredients such as zinc pyrithone, salicyclic acid, coal tar, selenium silfide, or ketoconazole. All of these ingredients have been shown to work on dandruff; to use the shampoo, apply it to your scalp and hair, rub vigorously, and allow it to sit for five minutes so that the ingredients can work before rinsing it out.
