Ok so for about 3 weeks now I have had an itchy scalp. I thought it was just from dandruff, which I get from this time of year, along with an itchy scalp. However, twice I have found centimeter-sized bugs in my hair when I was taking a shower. My mom has gone through my hair thoroughly three times and has found no bugs, only white flecks, which she can't distinguish dandruff from nit eggs.
The GP or a chemist could tell u if it is head lice I would think. You would see them crawling around. To me it sounds more like either dandruff or psoriasis.
I started off with an itchy scalp about 4-5 weeks ago - i then noticed i had some dandruff - i wasn't too concerned intil i found myself itching quite a lot - ive had dandruff before and it generally goes soon enough and doesn't cause too much itching. Anyway i started to become paranoid thinking i had lice - as my cousins were visiting i thought perhaps i had got lice from one of them. However nobody was itching but me.
I know it isn't dandruff or head lice. I've had my scalp checked several times. It didn't start itching until I was told I had RA a year and a half ago. That's the thing I know. Thanks for your help anyway.

The symptoms can be due to dandruff, seborrheic dermatitis or lice. Eat a healthy diet. You can also take vit B6 and vit A and E which are good for hair and skin. Try medicated shampoos for dandruff. There are a number of over-the-counter shampoos available that can help. The most effective ingredients -- antimicrobials -- to look for are zinc pyridinethione, selenium sulfide, sulfur and ketoconazole (also available by prescription).
t tell if the little white things in my hair are flakes or nits. I did the lice treatment, but nothing showed up when my hair was combed out. I have painful slightly itchy bumps and pimples on my scalp. I'm not insanely itchy, but I know you don't have to be super itchy to have lice. I don't know what else it would be if it's not lice, maybe the treatment didn't work. If it's not lice what is it?
So I've been having this yellow tube-like things sticking to strands of my hair. My hair is pretty long and very very thick. I think it's head lice, but I NEVER feel the little lice crawling in there, my mom checks my hair on a daily basis very frequently and she sees nothing. I do have dandruff every once in a while though. I admit they do look like head lice nits, but I'm not sure. I think it may be head lice and I'm getting some treatment shampoo tomorrow and trying it.

All my life I've been able to run my hands through it! About two months ago, the texture of my hair has changed and is more coarse like and is falling out. Now, when I run my hands through my hair, at least 3 to 10 hairs will come out.
My best friend calls Sunday afternoon and tells me she found lice on her daughter. I immeadiately freak out and go and get checked by the nurse nothing but dandruff. I used Rexall,Vinegar, Mayo, Conditioner without evidence of lice. I was wondering if I could have irritated my scalp? another worried mom about lice, go see a doctor hell look at your head and if they are lice and theyve infested that long he might use some permethrin shampoo the only way to really tell is to have a trained pro get a good look sorry
Mine started with bumps on scalp then moved to scabs. The whitish silver scalp pieces can resemble lice nits or dandruff. I admit I tried to pull mine off(to see what it was) so now mine itch or hurt.may at least ask ur doctor about that possibility. Any kind of doc should be able to tell. just sounded similar but it stops itching at times and will stop for months at a time. though if i run fingers through my scalp,nitlike small white stuff is under my nails.
It could simply just be dry skin or dandruff. Find something cream in the pharmacy at your grocery store and see if that helps. The only STD that could even be wouldn't technically be an std is lice like crabs. I imagine you've checked yourself out pretty thoroughly and you would have noticed lice. But I think it is simply dry skin which can be itchy and annoying.
My mum said it might be lice so I’ve bought lice treatment and there still appears to be the white beads. So I don’t think it’s lice. I then tried dandruff shampoo and it didn’t get rid of it either. A few other symptoms are that whenever I wash my hair, a hand full of hair would fall out and I’ve realised how much thinner my hair has become compared to before. Also at night time I would feel once or twice itchiness and sometimes I feel like an insect is crawling on my scalp. Please help!!

I have a history of OCD, and I have lately developed an intense fear of contracting something (like diseases or colds). Recently my scalp has been quite itchy, and the back of my neck and ears are red, but I have no flaky dandruff. My father believes that it is an allergic reaction to something that I ate, but I eat the exact same thing every day, so I have ruled that out...
I have jumped to the conclusion that I have lice.
My four year old has been scratching her head (all over her scalp) for a few weeks now. At first I thought it might be lice, but I inspect her hair every few days and haven't seen any nits or lice. As an infant she had eczema, so I thought maybe it was that, but she doesn't have any redness or bumps on her scalp. I don't think it's dandruff because thereare no flakes. We wash her hair every night in the shower with kids shampoo and use regular adult conditioner.
I've been at war with my daughter's hair for shy of 6 years now. Ever since she was 2 and in day care the doctors pegged her for having hair lice. Over the past 6 years she's been treated with numerous posionous lice treatments, and the "nit" looking things keep coming back! She has "never" had itching/redness of the scalp or any live louse. The "nit" looking things are ALL over her head but are ONLY located in the top section of her head no where else.
The last few weeks my scalp his been itching something awful, it is centered around the crown. I don't have dandruff and dandruff shampoo makes it worse. I have taken to washing my hair once a week because it itches so badly. The itching is making my head hurt. Please help.
