Common Questions and Answers about Cyclosporine for dry eye

restasis

Avatar m tn But, while you are there, have him tested for Dry Eye. (my yorkie had dry eye..my vet said it is quite common in older dogs and smaller breeds seem more suseptible to it ) Mucus buildup / discharge from the eyes is the main symptom...also squinting of the eyes, (especially outside from sun and wind ) The test is very simple, painless,inexpensive...(paper strip), and takes about 60 seconds. Dry Eye can be very painful and can lead to eye ulcers and blindness.
Avatar f tn I have a pug that was recently diagnosed with dry eye. At first, she was just being treated for conjunctivitis because of the discharge in both eyes. However, after a couple of days we noticed one of her eyes wasn't "glistening" and she was having problems opening it, so we went back to the vet and they did a schirmer? test and came back that she has KCS in her eye. They also did a corneal stain, and showed small a few small ulcers on both eyes.
Avatar m tn My dog has been treated for dry eyes for a year. She has been on many medications. Tacrolimus, cyclsporine, pilocarpine, neopolydex, gentamycin, tobramycin, simplicef, gabapenten, genteal drops, oint. gel, refresh, blink, now she is also taking tramadol for pain. She has been wearing the hood for 6 months to prevent her for scratching her eyes. She just turned 4 and and she is in so much pain, We finally decided to have surgery and have found out it is 2600.00 per eye.
Avatar f tn t suitable - or you are applying them incorrectly. In any event, it is essential for dry-eye to be treated, as otherwise it will lead to destruction of the tear ducts and more permanent issues will follow. If you cannot find another vet that you can trust, it may be worth telephoning your first vet and asking if they would be good enough to mail you a prescription eye treatment so you can continue with something that you know was helping.
Avatar n tn First of all, you want to stay away from products like Artificial Tears and other over-the-counter eye lubricants, because these products contain a form of soap as a stabilizer, and while they are fine for occasional use in normal eyes that just happen to be in a temporarily drying condition, for the lifelong treatment that will be needed for dry eye, the soap stabilizer will be too irritating. There are special preparations that contain cyclosporine that are used to treat KCS.
12270954 tn?1424407445 I don’t know if his eye will heal and be normal or if I’ll have to give him eye drops for the rest of his life, much less, which eye drops do I give him?! (tear production drops, artificial tears, Tacrolimus, Genteal, I-Drops, Collidad Silver) I don’t know if the Cyclosporine will help produce tears or if it will give him cancer. I don’t know if he will go blind or they will want to take his eye out! I know one thing for sure, the saliva duct surgery sounds awful! Sorry for going on and on.
1627010 tn?1299446388 She gave her an antibiotic eye drop. It took several weeks for it to heal. I guess in the process it damaged the dry eye even more. I'll just keep on trying and not give up. I love her to much to quit. Thank you for your comment.
Avatar m tn I have been taking Restasis regularly for 2 months now for dry eye treatment. I usually put two drops in my eye at a time instead of just 1. It says it has "Cyclosporine Opthalmic Emulsion .05%. I have taken two Oraquick home tests and they both came up negative for hiv. Would the Cyclosporine be able to cause a false negative?
Avatar f tn t been approved in Europe. Cyclosporine is only available for oral intake for other purposes...I came across a message of a lady who said it was easier to get cyclosporine drops if you borrowed a dog with dry eyes and took him to the vet lol.I don't really like the idea of buying off the internet but I'll look into it.My eyes are clearing up and though I'm still stuck at home with fever and sore throat, I'm getting better.Root for me, I really want to use my contacts again!
233488 tn?1310693103 Improvement can occur for up to 1 year. It works for the eye with no tears or the eye that waters all the time. If often stings or burns when first starting and many ophthalmologists use a mild steroid eye drop for a couple of weeks to reduce swelling. Restasis is not an artificial tear but is cyclosporin.
Avatar f tn 05%, I was wondering if it is okay to put the eye drops in my eye, and then after like 10 minutes or more use a warm eye compress, I am very stressed due to my bloodshot eyes from dry eye, and I find that the warm compress helps me to fall asleep but do not want to "wash" away or eliminate the effects of the eye drops with the moisture from the warm compress. any thoughts will be appreciated !
Avatar f tn Hi and Welcome ... I am not sure at all but wanted to stop by to welcome you. My dog (yes, I am serious) takes that med for her autoimmune eye disorder, but I'm not sure of its properties, etc. for hives.
Avatar n tn ) on 7th sep my eyes started burning and some glare effect, so my opthomoligst told me to stop, after 2 days i feel some blrry drop and eye lid swelling and burning sensation in sun light ,I thought it still will be eye drop effect and did not taken it seriously, On 13th sep i visited eye hospital and they told i have conjuctiviitis, between these six days my eyes were very dry and burning.
2216594 tn?1339413505 I joined this forum after surfing the net for solutions to extreme dry eye for a little dog. She has repeatedly been to the vet, and has been treated somewhat sporadically for this condition. Unfortunately I rely on pet sitters to administer the meds because my job as a flight attendant keeps me gone half of the month.
Avatar f tn Below is one of the medical record of a patient, seek help from ophthalmologist,to see if there is any improvement for the treatment regimen. Thank you very much!!! Admission condition: "Found that elevated blood sugar for more than five years, right eye pain for three months". Physical examination on admission showed the following: general condition, VOD:0.5 (correction). Fundus examination of optic nerve papilla edema, conjunctival hyperemia edema slightly.
Avatar f tn ve been treating the dry eye with cyclosporine drops and warm compress, both twice a day for 9 months. (holding for now on the post surgical eye as I am still on anti-inflammatory drops for 5weeks) I have also had Lipiflow treatment before surgery. I have had "natural" monovision for several years before cataracts developed. So, my ophthalmologist agreed to do it. I appreciate your advice.
Avatar m tn So Ivig eye drops must be used in an experimental study as it is not an FDA approved medication that a regular RX can be written for. Also it is important you understand the risks of chronic steroid eye drops which include cataracts and glaucoma. Generally speaking we do not want patients with Sjorgren's syndrome on steroids for long periods. Most of my patients with your problems I treat with Restasis twice daily for the rest of their life.
Avatar m tn We have tried a couple of different forums but not much response. We also are trying to find out all the pros & cons before we have surgery done. Right now we are using Cyclosporine & Tacrolimus drops 3 times a day plus Genteal severe dry eye gel every hour (6AM –10PM) to keep his eyes comfortable. Luckily there is someone home all day. Our opto said he would check saliva just before the operation.
Avatar m tn Restasis will not work in two weeks. It takes about 4-6 months to work so you can rule out benefit from that short term. Flarex is a steroid and would make lots of things better: dry eyes, inflammation, iritis, blepharitis. It would not do anything to scars on back of eye because steroids don't reach the back of the eye in any meaningful concentration. Your description sounds much more corneal than retina. I suggest you see a cornea specialist.
Avatar n tn How iron clad is the expiration date for cyclosporine eye drops for dogs?
Avatar f tn Hi, I would like to know why you started taking cyclosporine when it is not the first drug that should be taken for collagenous colitis. Simple antidiarrheals like loperamide or diphenoxylate are to be taken initially for control of symptoms. If there is no response then other medications like mesalamine, budesonide, immunosuppressants may be tried.
Avatar m tn Could taking less ursodiol have contributed to my diminishing symptoms. What would be the lest acceptable through cyclosporine level for a patient on mono -therapy four and one half years post transplant with no episodes of rejection? Thank you so very much Dr.
Avatar n tn Hi Emma. What happened to the dog to make him like he is now? Do you know if he was hurt by something or if this is a birth defect? The thing with the eyes, I have a feeling what he has is keratoconjunctivitis sicca, or dry eye. Chihuahuas and other breeds with bulging eyes are more prone to it than some other breeds. In order to keep that under control, medicine has to be put in the dog's eyes twice a day for its entire life. If the medicine is stopped, the condition returns.
Avatar m tn The only thing that scares me with this virus is having eye issues one day. I already deal with pink eye issues from time to time, allergy eye issues, and dry eye issues all that could weaken my eyes immunity. And I'm now scared I'll end up with whitlow and make everything worse. I have major anxiety issues with this.
Avatar n tn Eventually that stopped working. I now take 2 cyclosporine daily with 4 of medrol every other day. Medrol dose packs are used for exacerbations, but they are less and less since I started cyclosporine. There is also a new medication based on a humanized mouse anti-body that works for a lot of people with asthma and chronic hives and angioedema. (xolair....they company helps pay the cost, just apply....
Avatar m tn Just from time to time, if I am very tired my eyes become red and the area with the thicker conjunctiva even more. My eyes are always very dry - I need to have eye drops 4-5times a day. On top of that, on one eye, there is already a little cyst which you can see when looking in my eye. The doctors do not know what to do - and I dont either. I just wanted to know whether anyone of you have heard of a similar case with this rare condition? This would really help me out.
