Since then I have felt unwell, with daily coughing up mucus. Sometimes it is clear, sometimes light yellow, or dark yellow. More mucus in the mornings and it can wake me up at night. I have been tested for asthma and allergies and don't have either. Lung function tests are normal. CT scan was normal. On Advair 500- 2x per day, Atrovent, Salbutamol 4x per day, and Allegra 24 as per doctors orders.

Wake up inthe morning coughing up yellow / green mucus and then it goes clear but it's constant and so sticky - it won't even easily wash off the sides of the basin.
Last time I used to wake up inthe middle of the night choking - really horrid problem and the lack f sleep only makes things worse.
I've been coughing up the same hard, yellow, reddish mucus for months and months. It became a lot more frequent lately and it seemed as if I had a sinus infection. I went to an ENT and he took a culture of "puss" coming from the top of my nasal cavity. The doctor called an told me that it was Staph and it should be curred with antibiotics. After reading several things on Staph, I believe I will go buy the topical ointment as well. Hopefully it will clear it up.
Then, as though it were ready to reproduce, it moved into my upper chest, and I was coughing it up all over the place. That, though, was normal mucus and snot... This is totally different - WATERY and YELLOW AS A CRAYON! It got onto my white business shirt, and I had to bleach it! Could this just be the final-letting-loose of my infection from earlier? Or is it something more serious coming on??
My finger nails are pretty good now apart from my forefingers and thumbs although my toenails are all still very yellow but symptomless. I am sorry that you have so many problems with fluid build up - you seem to have a very bad case of YNS. It's the fact that so little is known about it that is so frustrating.
today, though, all of a sudden out of the right nostril, a yellow waterly liquid (not mucus) came pouring out just as a bloody nose would. in all my years of sinus infections and uri's i have never encountered that and it has scared the daylights out of me. now my nostril is burning. of course this is a sunday and we are in a rural area, very rural. so my concern was about this being an okay thing. so i got dressed and sat there for a bit and it stopped.
I'm a 52 year old woman in excellent health except for this problem that began Aug. 2004 after vacation in Mexico. It started with an ache in my left side below rib cage & change in bowel movements. I am frequently constipated, crampy in lower abdomen, sore in upper abdomen & every bm has a lot of mucus. In the last 3 months, the condition worsened & now I have excessive gas, bloating & 3-6 bm's per day, usually within 15-30 minutes after eating.
While I'm typing this message I have been clearing my throat at least a hundred time and spitting up mucus and coughing. The only time I get any relief is when i'm lying in bed partially on my stomach.
I hope someone comes up with an answer to this as it is driving me crazy. And keeping my wife awake also.
Apparently fluid can seep from the back of the nose and go down the throat the brain reacts to stop the fluid going into the lungs which closes the voice box, this then stops you breathing, the brain then realises that the lungs arent working so wakes you up and that is why you wake up coughing and trying to get your breath, this is how it was explained to me. I have been told that it is not dangerous and that I will always wake up, it is just very stressfull.
I get a sore throat (not tonsils but when you swallow) I now go straight on antibiotics and use Bricanyl inhaler although it doesnt seem to have much effect except to cause alot of mucus coughed up from the lungs. It causes me to have spasm coughing and if I cannot control this to 3 or 4 coughs my windpipe closes over making it hard to breath in or out. The last one about 2 years ago stopped me breathing in and out completely for 10 to 15 seconds and I thought I had bought it.

I had the same thing. I got it after an influenze bout a few years ago. After doctor's pills, allergy pills and several different types of inhalers that did nothing to improve the situation I was about ready to give up and in a despairing revalation realized I would have to live with this for the rest of my life. I did one last search on the internet and came across a posting that has starting to help me. My mucus is becoming "runnier" each day and my sinuses are clearing up.
I have never smoked and don't drink any coffee. I also found that coughing up the mucus only WORSENS the problem. So I have been trying to remain calm and not cough it up. I also saw my doctor who prescribed a nasal spray for possible post nasal drip. I don't think that helped. I had also started using Neti Pot for clearing my sinuses. And also started drinking Apple Cidar Vinegar. This all has helped a bit with the mucus problem. I don't think it is acid refux as I never have heartburn.
The other week I was eating some cake and somehow some of it went up my nose. I eventually got it down after snorting and blowing my nose. I didnt think too much of it until this week when the same thing happened again except I couldnt get the food down. The problem is now whenever I eat all my food keeps getting caught in my nasal cavity. My left nostril feels rather weird where it joins the bak of my throught, it feels like there is some sort of gap which wont close.

Okay sir, where would you categorize me base on these symptoms below ?
- I notice I have more mucus after I eat (clear mucus).
- I do get frequent cold/flu until it gets infected(the mucus changed color) and then recover later, this always lasted around 2-3 weeks from beginning of the flu to infection stage. Once/twice every two months I always have to deal with this.
- My nose blocked 24/7, either left or right..
-I take Prilosec OTC every day for my cough (well, what was a chronic cough at one point). I realized that I had GERD when I woke up one night coughing up acid a few months ago.
-I also take Advil Cold & Sinus every day (3 doses total, 1 dose every 4-5 hours). Surprisingly, this has helped me a lot. The pseudoephedrine helps me with the congestion and the ibuprofen helps the irritation in my nose. This particular brand doesn't make me feel spacey either, like tylenol sinus.
But, a year or 2 ago tops, I started coughing up what seriously puzzled is talking about.
I guess it is phlegm but it is an entirely different consistency from "regular phlegm." Yes, more like pellets or small more firm balls kind of, but they smell so incredibly foul it's absolutely disgusting. I usually examine them whenever they come up which has been kind of a lot lately, and it is just one of the most wrong smells ever.
So i went to tha Dr and they told me nothing was wrong but Last night when i was {being an adult} i got up this today and i seen a light red,it look like it could be blood so i put a pad on and it was nothing but light brown discharge..i took a test and it said negative than i went to tha dr and said tha same thing..can someone call me..what should i do....
The next day I had the cough attack and then suddenly coughed up a really thick mostly yellow mucus. After that I coughed up another two small globs and then I wasnt coughing choking anymore.
Help me please. There has to be a cure! It has messed with my life and I am often stressed about it which just makes it worse. I cannot enjoy eating anymroe as it seems most anything during these times will cause the mucus and episodes to trigger.
Today, I started couching up blood in the phlegm which is a light yellow color. Does anyone know if I should be taking more medication or if i should be worried about this? i have coughed up a little blood all day. I went to my Doctor but he didn't give me anything for it. he just told me to get more rest.

I have been getting over a recent bout of bronchitis where I was prescribed Augmentin (I am on Day 6) and Prednisone short burst (finished 2 days ago) I am still coughing quite bad but the fever has broke... but as of yesterday the phlegm/mucus I am coughing up tastes extremely salty. I have not been using any type of saline spray, or gargling with salt water, so I know this is not the reason. Is it the antibiotics causing this? Or is there another reason?
Also, even though my coughing has subsided, when I do cough, I cough up small amounts of thick, clear phlem that has a light yellow tint to it. I didn't think it was an infection because of the clean throat culture and I wouldn't say the mucus is dark yellow. It's more like a thick white/pale yellow phlem.
I finally took the zyrtec and was probably the only thing that helped when compared to all the other over the counter medications I tried.
Since meeting with my doctor about 3 weeks ago, I was able to spit up phlegm and sometimes release mucus from my nose. In both cases, mucus showed up as brownish yellow pieces.. one day I even coughed up a hard, pebble-sized piece of mucus that was fleshy in colour.
2 days ago, experienced throat pain when swallowed.. next day - classic flu symptoms: sweats, weakness, body aches, throbbing headache and excessive mucus secretion from sinuses, sinus pain and congestion.
I usually only use my Nasarel when I'm at my wits end with my PND / daily excessive clear mucus production / coughing coughing coughing / vomiting the clear mucus up to get relief, etc.
What happens is I usually end up feeling tight in the chest and around my back as well as very sore/tight shoulder pain, and my energy drops to zero just like having the flu does to a person. My daily clear phlegm thickens and eventually I end up with yellow phlegm which means I have a cold/flu.
I don't want to use the inhaler unless I seriously have too. At times mucus that comes up appears to be string like and any other mucus appears to be clear as opposed to yellow before. Will this wheezing go away? Should I worry? I have had several chest x-rays and everything seems fine. The wheezing worries me. Are these the after effects of not smoking anymore? And if so why and how long may it last and is there anything I can do to make it better or go away quicker?
