Common Questions and Answers about Coughing mucus reflux

coughing

Avatar m tn I would recommend you discus acid reflux with your doctor. There is a type of acid reflux (larygealpharyngeal reflux) that does not cause the typical acid reflux symptoms of heart burn. The acid refluxes higher into the laryngx, pharynx and even the sinuses where it can cause laryngitis, sinus infections, and chronic cough along with a number of other issues. There are many other causes of chronic cough to investigate, but after allergies acid reflux is one of the leading causes.
Avatar m tn mucus in my throat (it might last many months) and combined with a coughing (it will last again 3 months?). How hard my life is? I hate Mucus and/or coughing. Could you give me some ideas or encouragement? Kind regards.
Avatar m tn A cough is generally a result of an irritant such as stomach acid (gastric reflux), mucus (asthma), hair spray, perfume, dust, pollen, mold, even spicy food, post nasal drip, or infection. It could also be due to infection such as pneumonia or bronchitis. Chronic sore throats can be allergic, viral or bacterial in origin. Many viral conditions like EBV (glandular fever) behave in this way with recurrent respiratory infections.
Avatar n tn Nine months after recovering from terrible acute bronchitis, I am still coughing up small blobs of thick sticky, pale yellow mucus all day. My allergist says my asthma is under control, my sinuses are more or less clear, and I recently went to the cardiologist for a full workup. All that's left is GERD, but I'm unsure how to proceed because I hardly have any other symptoms.
Avatar f tn I agree that it really does not seem like acid reflux or heartburn! For me it's a constant, annoying feeling like I have mucus building up in the back of my throat that I need to keep clearing out. I feel like I'm driving everyone around me crazy by the continuous clearing - and sometimes productive sounding noises! I have not talked to my doctor about it yet because I keep hoping it will just go away.
Avatar m tn I had a dry and itching throat, so it makes me coughing for about 3 weeks, what should I do?
Avatar f tn https://www.webmd.com/heartburn-gerd/guide/laryngopharyngeal-reflux-silent-reflux#1. The phlegm is pretty typical and that it is green means you should watch out for infections of the lungs or sinuses. You may need a round of antibiotics?
Avatar f tn It sounds very much like acid reflux. The only symptoms that I had was coughing and mucus. Went to lung dr and had all the tests everything ok there. Back to GI dr. who didn't think it was reflux because no pain only coughing. Had all the test including 24 hr ph test (fun) which showed I was coughing when I had acid reflux. My cough was so hard that it was causing other problems like blood pressure.
Avatar n tn I am a male age 60. In the last 6 months I have experienced coughing, choking and mucus for about 30 minutes after eating. I first thought it was related to a food allergy, but I cannot isolate it to any specific food group. I do not experinece and acid reflux or vomiting, just constant choking. This is very irritating and is a bit strange. Does anyone have an idea of the cause or where I should go for resolution.
Avatar m tn Have your doctors mentioned the possibility of acid reflux with you. Acid reflux, specifically laryngeal-pharyngeal reflux, can cause the symptoms you describe. You might want to try some OTC reflux meds like prilosec or zantac. Feel better.
Avatar f tn She told me she thinks the coughing happens cuz of potsnasal drip (or sth like that, i.e. mucus in throat which irritates the throat to cough). She gave me local antibiotics for my throat and it seemed to help. After 5 days, I was all good. Now it's more than 10 days from it and almost 6 weeks from when it originally started. Again, Im starting to cough again and every day when I wake up, my nose is fully blocked and throat full of mucus.
Avatar n tn just stopped drinking coffee and use decaf t.bags..slight improvement just going through tests to see if its acid reflux causing the irritation..so really thinking about changing my diet ...had camera down nose and chest xray both were clear..driving me bonkers had it for over a year now..been prescribed with omeprazole and gaviscon ...lets see how it goes ..
Avatar f tn Iam in my early 30's & have had a chronic cough for 6 yrs.The coughing is not exercised-induced, but cold air, sleeping, & taking a deep breath can bring on a coughing attack. It feels like there is something in the left side of my throat. I had my tonsils removed, hopingthat this would alleviate the problem but after one month, I was back on my coughing spells.I cant eat anything like rice or nuts anymore without having a major cough that ends upi n tears.
Avatar f tn He could have allergies even after testing, JANUARY, THAT'S THE BEGINNING OF TREE ALLERGIES.. GOOGLE IT. I also have a horrible cough that leaves me exhausted.. Chest x-rays, mri's, cat scans, allergy tests only show grass, weeds as allergy related. He could have post-nasal drip causing him to cough. Elevate his bed (pillows under mattress) portion. He could also have "reflux" and should try otc prevacid for acid reflux..stay away from spicy foods.
Avatar n tn I have had excess mucus for twenty years and it is getting worse. Have given up all caffeine in drinks and food. Am using a nasal spray and Ayers ointment to line my nose. After I eat or drink the mucus is more. I am taking allegra once a day but it does not help. I have given up all dairy and trying to cut down on sugar. I have an internist who has not solved this problem. Is there a specialist I should be seeing?
Avatar f tn It could be silent reflux. Silent reflux is an acid reflux you don’t feel but it creates a buildup of mucus in your throat by keeping it from draining down your esophagus. I might try talking with a GI doctor. Or maybe try an OTC acid reflux medicine like Omeprazole.
Avatar m tn Has anyone tried using a netipot to relieve these symptoms? I have had the same problem for exactly a year now and it's really become unbearable. I feel a constant tightness in my throat and every time I swallow, I have coughing fits.Throughout the day I will have to clear my throat and i always have clear mucus to clear. It's made it to the point where I don't looking forward to meals anymore b/c I know what to expect.
Avatar f tn m really worried about my partner he has a dry cough which makes him feel out of breath after eating and he also finds it really hard to swallow. my suspicions were reflux but he doesnt feel as though he has any symptoms. should i ask gp to refer to ent.
Avatar f tn I'm a 16 yr old girl and I've had this cough for over a month. Its very mucus-y and hoarse. Sometimes i cough so hard for so long i throw up green mucus. When i tilt my head back the cough gets worse. Also i cough so hard i cant breathe for a few seconds and then im fine. In the beginning, i had a normal cold. But then all the cold symptoms (headache, earache, stuffy nose) went away and the cough never did.
Avatar f tn I was left with a really bad cough, sometimes coughing non stop.. I went to an ENT doctor and he told me I had Acid Reflux, which is the reason am coughing so much and bringing up mucus. I am on Pantecta now for over three weeks and still coughing.. Is there anything else I can take to stop this coughing.. I am really tired and frustrated.

Avatar m tn The problem is because of slow down of stomach. As you said it right; GERD / Acid indigestion are often caused by slow stomach. When the stomach slowed down there is a build up of food and once you had mucus which was probably because of recent cold, it does not have a way to get out normally through colon. So what happens is that it tries to come out through mouth. One way to get this problem resolved is to take necessary steps to empty the stomach through detox.
Avatar n tn Are you coughing because of thick mucus in your throat? If so try taking 500 mg. of vitamin B5 daily. It is a mucus thinner and works beautifully. That is what I use it for. There are no side effects. You can go as high as 1000 mg. Now even though they could find no allergies that doesn't mean you don't have any. Her is something else to try: buy a bottle of liquid Benadryl (the stuff they use for kids).
Avatar f tn I have been coughing up phlegm daily for around 7 years. I've tried antibiotics several times without any success. I've had x-rays and mri scans but nothing showed up. Around 18 months ago my voice started to change. I was then prescribed omeprazole 20 mg capsules which make a slight difference and my voice returned to normal. But I still have to tap my chest and often have to get someone to hit my back to dislodge the phlegm which is milky white/ beige globules and quite a lot of it.
19501685 tn?1478887405 Doctor recently prescribed ranitidine before bedtime as my reflux is worse at night. Could the reflux be the cause for the blood? I get really scared when I see it, I have been really anxious about this and have actually gained weight from the stress. The blood seems seem to be in my mouth when I wake up, no coughing going on a night, sleep with head propped up due to the reflux...please help!!
