concussion

Avatar n tn Any form of concussion ideally should be evaluated by at the emergency room by emergency room physicians, and later admitted for observation about 24-48 hours since neurologic symptoms can still ensue (like weakness, vomiting, decrease consciousness, etc.). A CT scan is not mandatory for concussion, however this should be done for any person with neurologic symptoms such as preferential weakness of one part of the body, severe headache, or decreasing sensorium.

Avatar f tn Generally, in such a situation the damage is done by swelling, during the first 24-48 hours. This is the so-called "window of opportunity". In the United States the drill should not be to"make an appointment with a neurologist" but to go immediately to an emergency room, preferably a certified trauma center. Don't pass go. Don't collect two hundred dollars.
Avatar f tn One of the big questions asked in an emergency room is that did you lose consciousness first and then fall, or did you simply become weak and then hit your head? After all this time the condition had stabilized. That means that you don't have to run to the emergency room. There is a possibility your "passing out" was due to something simple, such as simple systemic vasodilation, or something complex and ominous. It is unlikely, but possible you have experienced a minor stroke.
Avatar f tn You have to get someone to take care of the kitty-cat and back to an emergency room immediately, preferably a designated trauma center. That means as of five-minutes from now. Not six minutes from now. Not seven minuites from now. Not the same hospital. There are some "missing pieces" to your emergency room experience. You should have been admitted for observation and had an MRA and an MRI. If these were not available then a CT.
Avatar m tn Trauma to the head including blows, concussion can cause symptoms referred to the facial nerve. Since she has sensory symptoms, this could be trigeminal nerve involvement. There is vomiting which could mean collection of blood intracranially, possible subdural hematoma leading to raised intracranial pressure necessitating emergency intervention. I suggest that you do not lose time and head for the emergency room.

Avatar f tn You need to go to the hospital Accident and Emergency urgently to get examined for concussion, xrayed to see if you have cracked scull and for any evidence of brain haemorrhage. Avatar m tn You should have gone to an emergency room and you most likely wouldn't have any of the problems you are having now. There is a window of opportunity to reduce swelling and stop bleeding (if that is taking place) and you missed it. Have you had an MRI? Light sensitivity often (not always) indicates bleeding in the brain, which is in addition to the concussion. More bad news. You will probably have problems from neck pain about another six months down the line.
Avatar m tn This is too complex a subject for an answer in a post. If there was a significant blow, go to an emergency room. See a physician.
Avatar f tn I hope all is well with you. Wondering if you decided to go to the doctor. A little over a month ago, I had one of my drop attacks and hit my head on the way down. Like you, I did not pass out either. Immediately, my head hurt all over and my arm went numb. I got really sleepy. Every thing seemed better about half hour later. Had a headache the next morning but with how hard I hit my head, that was to be expected.
Avatar n tn Unfortunately, if you have encountered an injury, followed by headache, you need to report to the emergency room immediately along with an attendant due to risk of symptoms worsening rapidly. There is a risk of concussion. intracranial hemorrhage compressing the rest of the brain and raised intracranial pressure. You will need to undergo an urgent CT/MRI to locate any hemorrhage/hematoma.
Avatar f tn You need to consult a neurologist as soon as possible or go to an emergency room and get evaluated for head injury and concussion. You may also need a MRI of the brain. The headaches could just be due to the hit or due to some bleed (that caused the swelling) or due to just a superficial injury to scalp. It cal also be due to bead injury that goes deeper into the brain.
Avatar f tn ” So, according to Mitt, poor people should let their polyps turn into cancer and then go to the emergency room only to find that nothing can be done for them. That’s what emergency room care as a health care option means! Mitt Romney’s response is priceless! If I do another face-palm over something this man says, I’m going to end up with a concussion. In comparison to Mitt Romney, George W. Bush is looking like a very brilliant man indeed, and infinitely more caring. That’s right!
Avatar m tn It is possible to have post-concussion syndrome for months and even years after the incident. This condition is a complex disorder in which a combination of post-concussion symptoms like headaches, tinnitus and dizziness are experienced. There are no specific treatment for post-concussion syndrome but treatment for the individual symptoms you experience is made by your doctor. Regular follow-up with your doctor is highly recommended. Take care and regards.

Avatar f tn The next day when I woke up my jaw hut and my eye on the side I hit my head was so red it looked as if someone had painte it blood red. But I could see. I drove my self tpo the emergency room because I am and was unemployed. CAT ws done and appeared to be fine, but.... my depth perception is off and if I am exhausted I stutter, and ( I know this will sound really odd) when I am reading I know the words but I do not. Avatar n tn g he was slurring his speech, confused, disoriented, sleepless, restless and delusional). I took him to the emergency room the next day and they did a CT scan, but did not find any brain injuries or blood in his brain. The doctor who saw him was in a extreme rush and didn't really talked to us. When my husband was discharged from the ER they gave him a paper explaining about head concussion. So we assumed he had a head concussion. He did o.k.
Avatar n tn In the future, if you ever bang your head hard, head for an emergency room. In general it is not a good idea to take aspirin, which is an anti-coagulant. Some head blows result in rupture of blood vessels. Mother nature provides a way for the blood to clot and prevent further bleeding, but when you take a drug such as aspirin, this mechanism is no longer available. The bleeding can fill the spaces and cause brain damage.
12184553 tn?1443895085 I went to the emergency room BC I couldn't make it to my docs office in another state. Im experiencing pain and the baby keeps dropping very low. Avatar n tn Nausea is definitive for a concussion. Take him to an emergency room IMMEDIATELY. If your daughter refuses call the police and 911. With hesitation. An argument is not worth your grandson's life. Some concussions resolve. Other's result in compression of blood vessels causing blindness, quadrapalegia or death.
Avatar n tn I don't really know much about this but since no one has commented you back yet I just want to say that that doesn't sound like a hangover to me. 3 glasses of wine isn't enough for her to still be having these symptoms the next day (provided she is of normal weight etc.) I think you should take her to the emergency room or at least consult a doctor. It's better to be safe than sorry. Good luck and keep me posted.
Avatar m tn In January I almost fainted at school while seated in the auditorium watching a comedy. I went to the emergency room where it was noted that I was tachy (about 120 seated) but there was no identifiable cause so I was sent home. About two days later I experienced the same issue, almost fainting twice in the shower. So, I went to the emergency room and the same was said, they couldn't find an explanation.
