Common Questions and Answers about Concussion symptoms last

concussion

Avatar m tn A concussion can last for weeks after the head injury. The symptoms too vary from person to person. Headache, confusion, memory loss, dizziness, nausea vomiting, slurred speech and fatigue are common. Delayed symptoms include depression, irritability, sleep disturbances, seizures, loss of smell etc. A doctor generally looks for focal neurological or generalized neurological symptoms that would show there is a pressure on brain somewhere.
Avatar f tn I diagnosed concussion because I had pretty much all the symptoms of one. And I didn't go to the hospital for two reasons 1) I didn't feel like trusting my driving skills after that 2) I did a typical test for "serious" head trama (watching what your eyes do, how long you can focus on things ext) so I knew it wasn't "serious" so I didn't think to go. I know thats bad but what can I say.
Avatar f tn Last night, my boyfriends mom got into an argument with my mom and step dad. I sided with my boyfriends mom because she was right. My step dad was acting crazy but I got in his face and yelled at him because he was trying to deny the fact that my mom is a drug addict. Well he grabbed me hard, threw me to the ground, threw me into the fence and on the ground again.
Avatar n tn symptoms of a concussion can last days, weeks or longer....you never know. and these symptoms you are experiencing now could go away and you could end up with diff symptoms some time after. Im not a doctor but am speaking through experience. what meds did they prescribe you?
Avatar f tn I would rather have my MRI read in Cleveland. I wonder how long a person can have concussion symptoms. If the symptoms should have disappeared by now, I have to wonder if it is the Chiari that is worse bc of the hard hit on the head.
Avatar f tn G'day. I'm not sure if I'm posting this in the right area-don't know where else to put it. I've had a concussion for about 9 days now with "usual, mild-average" symptoms. The last couple days have been like the first couple days, cannot rest my head at night from the pain, taking two 650 mg Tylenols when I think of it, also seem more confused & forgetful (before major loss of sleep). The last 48 hrs. I've slept for 40 min's.
Avatar f tn Anyone please!!
Avatar f tn Also I am incredibly unbalanced and all of these symptoms worsened after my last concussion which happened to be my fifth. From this one I had a report of severe concussion with mild amnesia, which four months later has not gone away. I also exhibit no abnormalities in my eyes. Sorry I forgot to include this before.
Avatar n tn I fell and hit my left shoulder and back on a stair railing last week. It irritated nerves on my left and right sides. I don't remember hitting my head, but I've had a headache pretty much constantly since. Headache is mostly right side on front of head. I've also been feeling spacy, dizzy, and nauseous since. I don't have any bruise like pain at the back of my head. It might be a sinus infection, but it all started the day after I hit my shoulder, so I'm not sure?
Avatar f tn I am not familiar with the PCS or how long it should last....but r u sure the symptoms u r having rn't being caused by something else..as a result of the accident??I have chiari and am aware of aquired chiari...which can be attributed to an accident to trauma to the head or neck.....did u have MRI's of the head and neck?...check out the chiari forum...also try the ASAP web siste or the chiari institute....there is plenty of info at either site.
Avatar f tn I suffered a concussion in sept. 2012 maybe? Then again in April of 2013. Im still suffering from memory loss, focus and concentration issues, attention problems, and a constant headache. How long should or could this last?? If relevant, I'm 38.
Avatar n tn Your symptoms could be due to migraine or PCS ( post concussion syndrome ) because of the concussion that you had years ago. Please go for an MRI brain to know the exact cause and consult a neurologist for treatment as a delay could be dangerous. There are chances of getting a stroke. Hope this helps you. Take care and regards !
Avatar f tn re supposed to take it easy after a concussion and orgasm raises your BP and all. Most of my symptoms of the concussion have gone away, aside from double vision. Thoughts?
Avatar n tn He has had 3 CT scans in that time. The last concussion was almost two weeks ago. He still has headaches and some fogginess. How worried should we be about long-term damage? When will the headaches go away?
Avatar f tn A concussion can last for weeks or maybe years after the head injury. The symptoms too vary from person to person. 612876 tn?1355514495 t be here right now to keep up with things. Yesterday I was diagnosed with a concussion from the syncope I had in the shower last week, which explains many of the symptoms I'm having. My doctor is hoping these symptoms will alleviate as my brain recovers over the next week or two from the injury to it. I am also awaiting some blood work, and word from my cardiologist on a dosage change on one of my meds with regards to what may have caused this downturn in the first place.
1980327 tn?1326248976 Yes, completely normal for a concussion. Your symptoms can last up to 6 months. The dizziness while laying and turning over is most common and will last the longest.
Avatar f tn I am a little bit concerned that you may have had a minor stroke last year and may have impending symptoms of another one. When you are nineteen these events are unlikely, but I am painting a "worse-case" scenario. There is nothing really critical about this, but sometime in the next few days would do fine. Of course a consult with a neurologist is in order.
Avatar n tn The problem is, your symptoms are right in line with post concussion syndrome, but anxiety symptoms include almost anything. I mean, look at the posts here, we get all kinds of weird physical and mental stuff. But yours started after a fall and a doctor saying you had a concussion. You need to advocate for yourself in a stronger way and eliminate any physiological explanation before attributing this to anxiety.
Avatar f tn My dr says I need to treat myself as if I have a concussion for at least a year, or while symptoms last. I get headaches, dizziness, sometimes very mild forgetfulness. I'm a nurse so you would think I wouldn't be so worried, but I've never personally been the one healing. My doctors don't seem concerned much. I guess I'm just worried myself. They have told me it was a miracle I wasn't in a coma because my head was so bad when my scans were reviewed when I came in.
Avatar f tn Since this is a concussion injury which is a brain injury causes by a sudden blow to the head or to the body. Symptoms of a concussion include memory loss, headaches or blurry vision, nausea, inability to stand or walk or having coordination and balance problems. There is an entity of post concussive syndrome where there is inability to think and headaches, changes in sleep patterns and personality etc. This needs to be evaluated clinically, CT/MRI scan brain needs to be done to rule out.
Avatar f tn m sorry to hear what you have been through for the last few months. Treatment for post concussion is focused on the individual symptoms present since the severity and extent are unique to each person. While symptoms usually resolve after a several months, medications and other adjunctive therapies may also help. Prescription medications may help with headaches and associated symptoms.

Avatar f tn Last Aug (09) I had a concussion/neck injury which left me with post concussion symptoms that subsided in Nov. The neck injury has been an ongoing problem with pain. With it has been the rocking sensation that is in sync with my heart beat. Had MRIs of head and neck (shows DDD bulging discs in neck, pinched nerve), Audiology exams (clear), Neurologist exam and Steroid Injs in neck.

Avatar f tn Loss of consciousness isn’t required for a diagnosis of concussion or post concussion syndrome. Post concussion syndrome occurs within first 7 to 10 days and until 3 months. Symptoms are variable including dizziness, fatigue, irritability, anxiety, insomnia, loss of concentration and memory, light and noise sensitivity, headache varying from a tension type to cluster headaches. You need to consult a neurologist immediately.
