Cipro for throat infection

Common Questions and Answers about Cipro for throat infection

cipro

Avatar f tn Did your doctor prescribe the cipro for your sinus infection? Usually, if you did not suffer any side effect last time you took it, it is likely that you will not be suffering any this time. Ciprofloxacin belongs to a class of medicines called quinolone antibiotics. This is indicated for bacterial infection and it works by stopping the growth of bacteria. Talk to your doctor for proper management. Take care and do keep us posted.
Avatar m tn cipro is not a good choice for what usually causes throat issues. definitely go back and be seen. MOst adults do test + for hsv1. Even if you can't recall ever having a cold sore, if you test + for hsv1, doesn't mean that this is due to hsv1.
Avatar f tn 1) hiv is no risk to extremely low. What risks are there involved with this though for Chlamydia and Gonorrhea for penile, throat or anal infection? For anal, my thought is zero but would love the peace of mind. 2) are there sti's that cause ovarian cysts? 3) will leukocytes show up in urine if there was an infection? 4) if I were to have passed something along to my wife, would i have seen leukocytes by now from it being passed back from my wife?
Avatar m tn Usually a course of clindamycin or Amoxillicin is prescribed for an oral infection but Cipro should work fine.
Avatar m tn I went to see my GP and he prescribed me. Cipro for 5 days....then Amoxicillan Augmentin for 10 days....and then finally Doxcylcline for 10 days. The symptoms have not gone away....and some days the symptoms are very mild and I feel it has gone away.....only to come back again. (1) Would the antibacterial treatments I received have cleared gonorrhea in the throat? (2) Will it clear on its own since from infection possible date to today have been almost 15 weeks.
Avatar n tn I am a 50-year-old man. About a week ago, I started experiencing frequent urination with urgency and waking at night to urinate. I visited my family doctor who did a simple test for blood in the urine, which was positive. He diagnosed prostatitis and prescribed 2 weeks of cipro. I tried it for two days but experienced anxiety and insomnia, although I must say by the second day the urinary symptoms were completely gone.
1580703 tn?1651904887 s 600-625 for a few weeks. when I took prednisone and solumedrol I came down with sore throat and a bad infection that didn't respond to antibiotics and lasted 1 month. I am still wheezing several months later. what could have caused this and what can I do to treat it? the doctor seems to say it is due to vocal chord problems. I noticed on 40-50mg of prednisone a day my FVC increased from 70 to 80. thanks so much!
Avatar m tn The scary part is I have a very bad itch around my anus and have had it for the past few months. I have had a sore throat for over 2 months now, which developed after being on the cipro for a month or so. I also have a few white spots on my gums. I contacted the girl and she went and got tested for everything and came back negative. She claims to have no symptoms of anything whatsoever. I feel completely fine physically, I have had no flu like symptoms but my body just feels different.
Avatar f tn Your symptoms could be due to a post nasal drip, which can cause a chronic irritation in the throat. This could be due to a sinus infection, a cold or a chronic allergy. It could be sinusitis, if it is accompanied by nasal stuffiness and facial pain or pressure. Post nasal drip could also be due to allergens. These are substances like pollen, dust, animal dander, certain foods, insect venoms and certain medications.
Avatar n tn The doctor told me it was probably strep throat and prescribed me penecillin. My throat got better. Only 12 days off of the antibiotics, and I decided to get tested for a STD as the symptoms of painful urination and an itch in my penis worsened and became much more bothersome. Now I'm wondering, could this strep throat really have been gonorrhea or another STD.
Avatar n tn A related discussion, I have so much pain around my up mollar was started.
276730 tn?1327962946 I am somewhat panicked by it coz once again the pain is a 10. Both docs told me it was not a yeast infection in my throat just an acute infection due to meds which can cause this obviously. Is there light at the end of tunnel here? No other problems except extreme fatique which I know is normal. Week 13 coming up. Thanks all.
Avatar m tn The night before I gave urine for the STD PCR I took one pill of Penicillin V that my wife was taking for her throat infection (probably Strep). Since this is a PCR test, how could taking an antibiotic result in a false negative test? Also I have no excretion, which I thought was symptomatic of STDs. Lastly, I am sure that my wife does not have an STD and in any case I use a condom and have had no other partners, so where would I get an STD? That said, and I look forward to your answer.
Avatar m tn No symptoms at all. The cipro and biaxin were not for stds, they were for a sinus infection. No pain, no discharge. I did get a yeast infection from the antibiotics, and wondered if that could have managed it's way to my urinary tract...but no burning, nothing like that. All of this seemed to be triggered from my masturbating without and ejaculation over the weekend...
Avatar m tn After about 3 days on Cipro I had a bad sore throat and diarrhea, sore throat went away in 2-3 days and my doctor attributed diarrhea to Cipro. I continued Cipro for 2 weeks and the diarrhea improved after I stopped cipro. After about 15 days of stopping cipro (7 weeks from likely exposure), I started getting skin rash. This skin rash is slightly itchy in small patches over shoulders, trunk, arms and are small patches. They disappear in few hours and may reappear elsewhere.
Avatar m tn I mean I know you would know better than I, but that is what I got off the CDC website. If you have time could you explain, that and the relibility of throat cultures for Gonnorhea. The more information the better... Thanks and Happy Holidays.
Avatar m tn If you want to substitute Cipro for one of these other drugs Cipro is in the same drug class as Levofloxacin. Levofloxacin will have the similar side effect though. Strep group B is the problem allthough it depends on if the prostate sample was collected sterilily such as a biopsy. If so then the virudans strep could also be the problem and viridans strep are more resistant to antibiotics.
Avatar f tn Hi, I have problems with UTI and kidney infections on a regular basis. I have been on Cipro on and off since 1994. Cipro has allways worked very well for me. I have not experienced side effects from this drug. I have had other antibiotics prescribed to me that did have some negative side effects. In my case Sulfa drugs causes hives. From 1994 up to 2003, I used to come down with UTI and kidney infections that required hospitalizations with a frequency of about every 3 to 4 months.
Avatar m tn Saw my doctor because terrible irritation in penis tip, sore testicles and having to urinate all night. No burning when I pee or discharge but significant pain at tip. Doctor did first catch urine test; neg for leuk & nitrates, said it could be prostatis so he gave me 7 days of Cipro. Had a minor surgery a few days later so did not take it. The next week it got even worse, so went to urologist. Same symptoms but worse. Dr. asked if it could be std, I told him I doubt it...
1280753 tn?1367757932 it's been 4 weeks and i am about ready to snap. ear, throat, sinus, bronchitis, intestinal; one infection after another. i was on moxyfloxicin for 10 days and it didn't help much. now it feels like the flu, and i got a flu shot in october. my WBC is 2.8 , ANC 2134 , Absolute Lymphocytes are 389 (which is real low) , HGB is 11.3. i want my life back. i can take the normal sides from INF and RIBA, but all this other stuff is taking it's toll.
Avatar m tn The answer you have received is not accurate. You had a small risk for oral gonorrhea and it often does not show symptoms. If you want you can have a throat swab done but I don't see a real reason for it. As for your penis you had no risk for a STD.
Avatar n tn I understand that ceftriaxone is protocol for oral gonorrhea but is it possible that 2g azithromycin or 400mg suprax could also work? Also, would that with cipro or doxy work for treating urethral gonorrhea? Why is there a difference? Also, I have heard that left untreated, oral gonorrhea may go away on its own. Is that true. Thank you for your responses.
Avatar n tn Usually for a sinus infection, Cipro is prescribed for 10 days—I am not sure how long the doctor prescribed for you to take it. If you started on Thursday and you are not feeling better, you should call your doctor today (Monday) or Tuesday. Tuesday would be approximately half way through the course and you should see some relief from your infection.
Avatar n tn yes, the doctor prescribed both Cipro and Azithromycin to me, despite having been negative for Chlaymidia on urin test. not sure why it was prescribed under the circumstances. the encounter i referenced in my previous post happened last weekend. if you get the test only 3-5 days from exposure does it effect the reliability of the test?
Avatar n tn You are lucky fi you can take antibiotics at all. Antibiotics (almost of them) close my throat. Antibiotic treatment for something as simple as strep throat could kill me. I've had several close calls. I'd love to be able to just take an antibiotic when I have something bacterial, or when I need surgery. Life is a lot more risky for me.
