And oral sex is basically safe sex -- completely safe with respect to HIV and although not zero risk for other STDs, the chance of infection is far lower than for unprotected vaginal or anal sex. Please educate yourself about the real risks. If you stick with oral sex and condom-protected vaginal or anal sex, you have no HIV worries and very little worry about other STDs.
Usually a course of clindamycin or Amoxillicin is prescribed for an oral infection but Cipro should work fine.
It would be nice if anyone would answer if cipro is an ok antibiotic for a tooth infection. I had a crown come off and dentist said I needed root canal. they tried but said root was too narrow and I had to go to specialist. They gave me a prescription for amoxil for one other tooth, but I didn't6 fill it because it was just sensitive one day.
But now the one they were working on has flared up and the gum is swollen and red.
I got an NSU/NGU infection in my urethra last Jan. Took Azithromycin for it at the GUM clinic and it flared massively, had horrible urethral pain after taking the antibiotics.
Flash forward and it has morphed into prostatitis, urethritis, epidydimytis, strange vascular symptoms on my penis and testicles (apparently thrombophlebitis - had that since the first month of infection). My glands are up in my groin but the doctors are having a hard time finding an infection.
I had described that I had been prescribed cipro for a possible bacterial infection (NGU) without anything other than my doctor doing a physical exam and knowing of my negative gono and chlamydia results.
Was this post directed towards me? I have since had a urinalysis (results pending) and a scheduled scrotal ultra sound. Is this the correct treatment, and if not, what is?
No symptoms at all. The cipro and biaxin were not for stds, they were for a sinus infection. No pain, no discharge. I did get a yeast infection from the antibiotics, and wondered if that could have managed it's way to my urinary tract...but no burning, nothing like that. All of this seemed to be triggered from my masturbating without and ejaculation over the weekend...

I have problems with UTI and kidney infections on a regular basis. I have been on Cipro on and off since 1994. Cipro has allways worked very well for me. I have not experienced side effects from this drug. I have had other antibiotics prescribed to me that did have some negative side effects. In my case Sulfa drugs causes hives.
From 1994 up to 2003, I used to come down with UTI and kidney infections that required hospitalizations with a frequency of about every 3 to 4 months.
Saw my doctor because terrible irritation in penis tip, sore testicles and having to urinate all night. No burning when I pee or discharge but significant pain at tip. Doctor did first catch urine test; neg for leuk & nitrates, said it could be prostatis so he gave me 7 days of Cipro. Had a minor surgery a few days later so did not take it. The next week it got even worse, so went to urologist. Same symptoms but worse. Dr. asked if it could be std, I told him I doubt it...
Usually for a sinus infection, Cipro is prescribed for 10 days—I am not sure how long the doctor prescribed for you to take it. If you started on Thursday and you are not feeling better, you should call your doctor today (Monday) or Tuesday. Tuesday would be approximately half way through the course and you should see some relief from your infection.

Always felt like a urinary tract infection or kidney infection. Was much later diagnosed with Interstitial Cystitis. Was treated for that with great results. Basically, your bladder goes into a spasm, holding urine and creating the pain I felt. Treatment was to take meds to help soft muscles to relax and allow urine to be passed. Also had to have in office infusions into bladder with heparin. I found that the antihystamine Hydroxizine to be a deterrent to flares and now use it daily.....

Cipro is a fluoroqinalone, and is not the best choice for an intestinal infection. Ordinary over-the-counter pepto bismal would have been more appropriate. Bismuth is a powerful bactricidal agent.

I had a gum infection about a month ago and the dentist put me on antibiotics and i took the full course. I thought that had got rid of the infection because i didn't have the vile taste in my mouth that i had.

I am a 50-year-old man. About a week ago, I started experiencing frequent urination with urgency and waking at night to urinate. I visited my family doctor who did a simple test for blood in the urine, which was positive. He diagnosed prostatitis and prescribed 2 weeks of cipro. I tried it for two days but experienced anxiety and insomnia, although I must say by the second day the urinary symptoms were completely gone.
Prescribed 500 mg. Cipro twice daily for 10 days with a follow up visit with a Urologist and GYN. Urologist visit negative for any other issues other than UTI - remain on medication and return in 6 wks if pain continues. GYN visit negative for any issues. Pain subsided 5th day on Cipro, but returned on 8th day. Currently on the 9th day of medication. New symptom - throwing up on the 7th, 8th and 9th day.
Thanks for your help Im a bit confused as there is only soreness after urinating with no discharge could i have thrush or systitus if so will the anti biotic im taking help or make the conditions worse at the moment Im in a foriegn country and will be returning home 20th December I intend to go straight to the gum clinic what do you think I should ask them to be testing me for.
I was given azithromycin 2g and cipro 500mg to treat Chlamydia. The symptoms went like the doctor said in a few days. Now it's been 2/3 weeks and I'm getting white discharge in the morning if I squeeze my penis. I don't have any other symptoms like I did before the treatment, for example, before I felt burning when peeing and wanting to pee more regular than before. I haven't had sex since the treatment. May need to go back to the gum clinic.
