Chantix recall smokers

Common Questions and Answers about Chantix recall smokers

chantix

Avatar m tn i mention this because generally smokers getting lung cancer are long time smokers so if it does benefit them, then i think it would apply to someone who's been a long-time smoker but has not been diagnosed with cancer. either way...i don't know if you've ever quit smoking before, but it's worth it just because many things feel better. i quit 10 months ago. i still get urges sometimes...but ultimately it's great to be able to breath again and smell....
Avatar f tn I am going to attempt to quit smoking to nock another bad habit out of my life. My question is...has anyone tried Chantix? I am about to start it but I am really nervous because I have read that it can have some serious mental side effects. Has anyone tried it? If so, what was your experience with it?
1096641 tn?1271707225 I quit smoking on November 13. I was just down in Disney World and my man handed me a diamond ring!! Beautiful...we've been together 8 years. I never thought I'd get a ring! Anyway...we had a shot and a drink to celebrate our engagement...one led to more ... and I broke...I had two cigarettes! :( I have since had some alcohol on Christmas night and did NOT smoke...I didn't even want to smoke.
Avatar f tn I am ready to quit, and noticed you said you took Chantix. would you recommend this pill? How long after being on Chantix did you actually stop smoking? I was prescribed bupropian, and wonder if maybe Chantix would be better.
393685 tn?1425812522 I smoke 5-10 a day too. Tried to "quit" using CHANTIX right when they found the goiter (stupid thyroid) and so I started taking Chantix and Levothyroxine at the same (an hour apart) and then came the numbness and tingles in my chin. I stopped both and the numbness and tingles stopped. Now I am smoking and taking the Levo and no tingles (guess Chantix is not good for thyroid huh - they should say that on the box!!!) Smoking for about way too long, I think like 12 years.
Avatar f tn I don't know what you should do, but I will tell you what I would do...have him smoke outside. Even secondhand smoke is bad for you and the baby, both now and after the baby is born. The past drinking shouldn't affect the baby. Smokers made a choice to smoke, and I don't believe smokers when they say they can't quit. After smoking for almost 40 years, my grandmother got very sick and quit cold turkey. She had cancer. And lest you think it was too late...
Avatar f tn I smoked almost the entire time I treated the first time. My doc also told me that trying to quit while on tx was too much stress. Well... I actually felt "ready" to quit about half way through treatment. I took Chantix, was smoke free with ease after 3 weeks and was off Chantix in less than 3 months. I was a 20+ year pack a day smoker when I quit. I've now been smoke free for 2 years, 3 months and 6 days.
Avatar m tn Itchy always and raspy, yes, but don't recall being or feeling swollen. You might want to check with you MD, just to make sure. Congratulations on your quit and keep it up! # weeks is a long time and you should be proud of yourself : ) Keep up the great work!
Avatar f tn Early pregnancy and can't quit smoking entirely-yes I know it's AWFUL and am mad at myself and feel terribly guilty but I can't seem to give it up completely. Anyone know if chantix or the patch is better or worse than actually smoking & pg? Ideally I'd be able to quit but can't so far.
Avatar m tn You have the right idea and it will be easier now than in 20 or 30 years. Gum and patches work for many and chantix helped me but some people have side effects and can't take it. I have been smoke free for about 10 months and I still take it a few times a week and it was the only thing that helped.
Avatar f tn It has been suggested to me by my doc that I may have the bronchitis type copd, but never officially put on paper, although I have been prescribed 2 inhalers. I have always coughed up brown flecks in my phlegm. But now, I have been coughing up dark grey after having some chronically infected teeth pulled. Could this be a result of the local anesthetic injections, or a worsening of the copd? I can only get rid of bronchitis for about a month before it comes back every time.
596485 tn?1253821678 I had to stop the Chantix that had worked so well for me because I was getting terrible mental side effects. So now I stick a patch on if I feel particularly weak. It seems to help I know it’s just mental anyway. I also did something else we had our annual enrollment and I listed us as non smokers. I know that the consequences now of smoking are losing my health insurance. For me that makes my choice to not smoke very simple. Great motivation for me anyway.
444932 tn?1273980797 I am now on day number 8 of taking Chantix - still smoking but have cut back. Yesterday, I started the 1 mg twice per day dose and within an hour of my a.m. dose, started itching like crazy. Benedryl gives some relief. It continued throughout the night and this morning. I do not have hives, difficulty breathing or anything like that - just itching that is driving me crazy. Anyone else had this problem with chantix?
Avatar f tn t any sure bets, but I did quit using Chantix and I never, ever beilieved I would be able to. I smoked for 38 yrs. and I was pretty hard core. When my doctor prescribed the pill, I really didn't believe in it, but thought, why not try. I was very surprised to find that, in the end, I had lost all of my cravings. A suggestion.........read the materials at whyquitdotcom and really prepare yourself for what to expect.
Avatar f tn I like to breathe more than I like to smoke. Besides, we smokers are outcasts except around other smokers, we stink, our cars stink and they control us instead of us controlling them. You help me and I will help you. I have started a journal to log how I feel on a daily basis for myself and others who wonder how hard it is. Think about posting there with me and share your feelings good, bad, everything no matter how silly it may sound. We can and will do this.
1718855 tn?1401756839 Def one of the more difficult habit to quit. I smoked for 13/14 years. Was part of my 30th birthday resolutions. That was nearly 10 years ago. For me, the first 2 weeks were by far the worst. Keeping distance from the nightlife scene helped and of course it's cool to keep distance from smokers (friends, family, associates, etc) for a time being. After awhile, even the smells of smoke irritated me. Now I'm cool with smokers a/o smoke.
1301089 tn?1290666571 I noticed in my own pain management doctor's office that almost all of us were smokers. Some were reformed smokers. But there were very few who had never smoked. So I wondered how many of us are smokers. You can vote without your ID being revealed so no fear. It is socially unacceptable now. But I will own up to being a smoker. I enjoy it and wish I didn't. My clothes smell awful. Too many cleaning bills!
Avatar n tn First of all, I am happy that you are making the decision to quit, that action is probably the most important for your lung health.I would talk to your doctor about smoking cessation, there are medications that can be tried along with psychotherapy (some people do well with hypnotism and other methods). One thing is certain, you need to have a good support system to help you. I hope that other former smokers chime in here to help you with advice.
Avatar n tn After 21 days I hardly thought about cigarettes. I also drank lots of fresh orange juice which seemed to help. Smokers seem to be more deficient in vitamin C and when those levels raise to normal, you feel much healthier. But seek his Doctors help, there are usually counselling groups where people in the same position go and chat to each other.
498385 tn?1362449404 I used the U.S. equivelant, Chantix, and did great. It is suggested that you use it for 3 months but I used it for 6 weeks and was fine. There is withdrawal when quitting the meds so prepare yourself. You need a support system and you need to reinforce your reasons for wanting to quit, especially when you feel weak and about to give in to a craving. It isn't easy, but it is certainly do-able. I smoked for 38 yrs. and never thought I could or would quit.
Avatar n tn It is really no different than using nicotine gums and meds like Chantix. And I did google it and read, but was wondering if anyone had tried it successfully or knew any information re: health. Thanks for the support.
Avatar m tn Wonderful! I remember that same accomplishment and how I couldn't wait for my first week, month, then year. Remember that you have to protect your quit though. Reading the materials on whyquitdotcom are a good way to make sure you stay strong in your resolve. There is a sense of "loss" that comes with the quit and a specific article "my cigarette, my friend" seems to put things in perspective, or at least for me it did.
