I quit smoking on November 13. I was just down in Disney World and my man handed me a diamond ring!! Beautiful...we've been together 8 years. I never thought I'd get a ring! Anyway...we had a shot and a drink to celebrate our engagement...one led to more ... and I broke...I had two cigarettes! :( I have since had some alcohol on Christmas night and did NOT smoke...I didn't even want to smoke.

i mention this because generally smokers getting lung cancer are long time smokers so if it does benefit them, then i think it would apply to someone who's been a long-time smoker but has not been diagnosed with cancer. either way...i don't know if you've ever quit smoking before, but it's worth it just because many things feel better. i quit 10 months ago. i still get urges sometimes...but ultimately it's great to be able to breath again and smell....

My doc had told me at the time not even to worry about quitting until later it would be too much starting tx and quitting. Well that was 72 weeks of treatment and two years SVR Ago and I think maybe now it's finally time I try to quit for good. Just NOT so easy a thing as it sounds for some of us LOL.

I am going to attempt to quit smoking to nock another bad habit out of my life. My question is...has anyone tried Chantix? I am about to start it but I am really nervous because I have read that it can have some serious mental side effects. Has anyone tried it? If so, what was your experience with it?

I smoke 5-10 a day too. Tried to "quit" using CHANTIX right when they found the goiter (stupid thyroid) and so I started taking Chantix and Levothyroxine at the same (an hour apart) and then came the numbness and tingles in my chin. I stopped both and the numbness and tingles stopped. Now I am smoking and taking the Levo and no tingles (guess Chantix is not good for thyroid huh - they should say that on the box!!!) Smoking for about way too long, I think like 12 years.

I am ready to quit, and noticed you said you took Chantix. would you recommend this pill? How long after being on Chantix did you actually stop smoking? I was prescribed bupropian, and wonder if maybe Chantix would be better.

We can and will do this. I remember how much of a failure I felt like when I smoked that cigarette. I do not want to do that again. I think the key is remembering what we are going thru now, later, when it fades. Hugs....

I used to take antidepressnats but they stopped working and I also got much better at dealing with depression through activities and behavior modifiction. Today, this morning I wanted to smoke and was talking to a friend and he told me not to smoke. I relaized I had 1 chantix left and took it. I only have been taking a few a week as directed by my doc and it's been working well. I'm glad I took the pill and I don't want to start again but this close call scared me.

Smokers know its unhealthy,causes cancer etc A pamphlet slipped under the door will not help them quit smoking, I doubt youre affected by neighb. smoking outside. I understand it is irritating. Is this a passive way of you to tell them how much you dislike tyheir smoking? You wont make enemies if you actually worry about them.but I doubt you do.

My insurance probably won't cover thyrogen shots for my year scan and thyroglobulin test. Does anyone know how much 3 shots would cost me??? I don't look forward to going off my meds for several weeks since it took me 7-8 months to finally feel good after my tt. I was on 8 different synthroid doses until we got it right. I'm on 250mcg. I would rather pay for them then be miserable.

Hi again I would like to add that yes we have all see the posts about side effects that some people have experienced. Most if not all are related to treatment with interferon and while the problems those people have experienced are not good they are experienced by a minority of patients. Also I believe at least some of them had other medical conditions which most likely complicated their treatment or their livers were already in bad shape to begin with.

Does an ultrasound cost in your city or town. In India it's like Rupees 600-1000.

I tried the Chantix several months ago. The only side effect I had was nightmares. It worked extremely well, I didn't even craves cigs. UNTIL I quit taking it too early. Back to smoking 2 packs a day. New target date to quit is July 1....I have to have sinus surgery Aug 16th, and have to quit smoking 6 weeks before. I only took the Chantix for 2 months, you can take it for up to 1 year. But my insurance won't pay for it, and it is for me anyway very expensive. $135. a month.

Fantastic! I carried small straws in my pocket. I put them in my mouth & drew on them like you would a smoke. It gave me something to do w my hand too. I quit 25 yrs ago. After I quit smoking & I was terrified I'd drink & forget I quit smoking. So I quit drinking too, for 12 yrs. I'm very happy I only quit once. It's very very hard.

Also, there is something that comes with the prescription that tells you about the risks. You had better read up on it. Sorry to hear that you are having seizures.
