Chantix for smokers

Common Questions and Answers about Chantix for smokers

chantix

Avatar f tn For me it was awful. But for some it's ok. It made me violent. I have never had a violent bone in my body. Thankfully, the violent tendencies went away about a month after stopping the pill.
286124 tn?1214938528 I am taking chantix and was prescribed lortab for my back.
Avatar m tn I have recently been approved by VA for a chantix prescription, and expect to start the cessation program within days. I've been told that a recent medical study indicates that a male of my age, 66, incurs decreased longevity by quitting smoking after 50 years addiction. can someone direct me to such a study, or advise if I've been misled?
Avatar f tn Good morning and congrats on your anniversary as a non-smoker! We have had some recent talk about the gum and maybe you can glean some info from it. Try following this thread: http://www.medhelp.org/posts/Smoking-Addiction/Effects-of-Long-Term-Nicorette-Use/show/730769?post_id=post_4517392 I quit with Chantix so I am not personally knowledgeable, but I do know some "gum" users who have been chewing for many years and are having a difficult time trying to stop.
1096641 tn?1271707225 I'm happy to hear that you put them down again, and yes, the craving can get to you, and you cannot beat yourself up but you might want to finish your chantix and then buy another and wean off them. I used Chantix and while taking them for a period of time I found that they really helped...no craves at all, I also realized that once I stopped, I had to deal with w/d, physical and emotional and that's when whyquit really helped me.
393685 tn?1425812522 I smoked for around 20 years and quit on Feb. 1, 2007, big day for me as you can tell! Took me many many years of trying and Chantix and determination finally did it for me. Started smoking in high school to "look cool". How stupid was that? My parents also smoked when I was a child, heck, my whole family smoked until in recent years. Someone suggested to me that the gall bladder surgery within weeks of giving birth was also related to my smoking.
Avatar f tn I don't know what you should do, but I will tell you what I would do...have him smoke outside. Even secondhand smoke is bad for you and the baby, both now and after the baby is born. The past drinking shouldn't affect the baby. Smokers made a choice to smoke, and I don't believe smokers when they say they can't quit. After smoking for almost 40 years, my grandmother got very sick and quit cold turkey. She had cancer. And lest you think it was too late...
Avatar f tn I smoked the entire time while treating, and yes I am still smoking, I know its not healty and horroble. I also know that I couldnt quit while treating, my doc said pretty much the sames as NyGirl! I am still not ready to quit!
326505 tn?1304169225 Happy New Year to you too, Kathy Jo. Don't know what we would do without you! Thank you for ALWAYS being here and for being so encouraging :) Here's to a smoke-free New Year!!! --- 3m 2w 2d 13:12 smoke-free, 1,073 cigs not smoked, $295.
Avatar f tn I come from a family of all smokers. I wish they would quit. For me, chantix was AMAZING. It worked in 2 weeks for me. Just speak with your doctor. The thing you have on your side is that you want to quit. That is the most important. You also have a motivation. So, now you need the willpower. Pray for it!!
Avatar m tn You have the right idea and it will be easier now than in 20 or 30 years. Gum and patches work for many and chantix helped me but some people have side effects and can't take it. I have been smoke free for about 10 months and I still take it a few times a week and it was the only thing that helped.
596485 tn?1253821678 I am so grateful that I can enjoy a drink or two without reaching for the smokes! That seems to be a major problem for ex-smokers and I have seen it happen over and over! According to one source, 50% of ex-smokers will smoke while drinking!!! So, you found a trigger, you need to fix it. Do you have to give up drinking? Hmm.....maybe you have to limit the amount, just until you learn to disassociate cocktails & smokes. I'm sorry that I don't have a better solution.
Avatar f tn It has been suggested to me by my doc that I may have the bronchitis type copd, but never officially put on paper, although I have been prescribed 2 inhalers. I have always coughed up brown flecks in my phlegm. But now, I have been coughing up dark grey after having some chronically infected teeth pulled. Could this be a result of the local anesthetic injections, or a worsening of the copd? I can only get rid of bronchitis for about a month before it comes back every time.
Avatar f tn t any sure bets, but I did quit using Chantix and I never, ever beilieved I would be able to. I smoked for 38 yrs. and I was pretty hard core. When my doctor prescribed the pill, I really didn't believe in it, but thought, why not try. I was very surprised to find that, in the end, I had lost all of my cravings. A suggestion.........read the materials at whyquitdotcom and really prepare yourself for what to expect.
1609058 tn?1298089127 I've had an awful experience that I must share and find out if anyone else has gone through it. I currently take Lexapro 10mg, a mild antidepressant, and it's wonderful for me. A little over a month ago, I requested a prescription for Chantix to quit smoking. Even though I'd heard lots of negative things about the side effects, I thought it was worth trying. After 4 weeks of taking it, I did notice that my mood was being affected, so I decided to stop taking it.
147426 tn?1317265632 I have to have sinus surgery Aug 16th, and have to quit smoking 6 weeks before. I only took the Chantix for 2 months, you can take it for up to 1 year. But my insurance won't pay for it, and it is for me anyway very expensive. $135. a month. I buy my cigs on a rez, so much cheaper than the Chantix!! Isn't it amazing how many excuses the mind can come up with! LOL. Now I have to do the whole thing over again. But I know it is worth it. Congrats Rena and Bio.
Avatar f tn Hey, so glad to see you are trying again : ) We have got to figure out where and when you go bad and work on it. You mention stress as a trigger and I sure know about that ; ) What helps me is to rationalize that my stress will be there with or without the smoke, and then I ask myself if it's worth risking my health and at this point, my sanity!
1718855 tn?1401756839 my problem with quitting is i feel super tired like im quittin opiates all over again i get 2 days out tops and i cave and i thought i was tougher that this imma keep at it i once quit with chantix that stuff worked great and the vivid dreams i had to go with it were amazing considering i dont remember my dreams that much but it only took 2 months after takin the chantix for 3 months so 5 months total b4 i was back smoking started when i was 14 and imma b 31 tommorrow so over half my life ho
1301089 tn?1290666571 I have to say I'm not a smoker but most of my friends and family are. I do know that my family members that smoke enjoy it. Unfortunately my mom passed away from lung cancer so my sister quit and just recently started smoking again. She's using the drug chantix to quit smoking. It worked for her the last time and seems to be doing the trick again.
Avatar n tn hi my partner has just had a heart attack hes been a smoker for a lot of years , he has gone cold turkey for the last 5 days but is now finding it a struggle , would it be ok for him to use electric cigs
Avatar n tn I know I should and I want to but I want it to be painless. Any suggestions? Unfortunately I have smoked for 49 years. Please help. Thanks. This discussion is related to Excessive,Thick and Constant Phlegm.
Avatar f tn I am just the opposite. Everytime I tried to quit and read all of those negative things I kept right on smoking. It's like It helped me to obsess about cigs all day. Maybe because I always was lucky enough to feel good and didn't feel any of the negative effects so all of the things I read were not real to me. they were not my reality at the time. Now I do not read all that stuff. I post here take my chantix and don't smoke.
