Chantix weight gain smokers

Common Questions and Answers about Chantix weight gain smokers

chantix

596485 tn?1253821678 For me that makes my choice to not smoke very simple. Great motivation for me anyway. The other thing that bothers me is the weight gain. It has only been 3 pounds but I am a petite person and only weigh 130 so any weight gain bothers me and is more noticeable than if I were heavier or taller. To many of you that may sound very trivial but it bothers me. Thanks for listening!!
Avatar f tn Thank You for the encouragement. I get very leary when it comes to anything that might affect my thyroid levels plus I gained so much weight after my surgery because they had a hard time getting my levels corrected. I hope I don't gain weight because its taken me quite a while to lose some but not all of the weight from messed up metabolism.
Avatar m tn i mention this because generally smokers getting lung cancer are long time smokers so if it does benefit them, then i think it would apply to someone who's been a long-time smoker but has not been diagnosed with cancer. either way...i don't know if you've ever quit smoking before, but it's worth it just because many things feel better. i quit 10 months ago. i still get urges sometimes...but ultimately it's great to be able to breath again and smell....
1096641 tn?1271707225 I quit smoking on November 13. I was just down in Disney World and my man handed me a diamond ring!! Beautiful...we've been together 8 years. I never thought I'd get a ring! Anyway...we had a shot and a drink to celebrate our engagement...one led to more ... and I broke...I had two cigarettes! :( I have since had some alcohol on Christmas night and did NOT smoke...I didn't even want to smoke.
Avatar n tn what do i need to know , whats the withdrawls like ? how long do the withdralws last ? without weight gain what can i do for the cravings ?
Avatar f tn Since many/most people gain weight when they quit smoking, your husband should start trying to lose, now, particularly if you think he might be diabetic or even pre-diabetic, which can be reversed. He needs to eat plenty of lean protein, such as chicken, fish, other lean meats, low/no fat dairy, beans, etc. He should also center most of his meals around veggies, which are very low in calories (leave off the sauces and use oils and herbs for seasoning).
Avatar f tn I am going to attempt to quit smoking to nock another bad habit out of my life. My question is...has anyone tried Chantix? I am about to start it but I am really nervous because I have read that it can have some serious mental side effects. Has anyone tried it? If so, what was your experience with it?
657423 tn?1227280657 I used Chantix for my quit and I think that I succeeded thus far by accepting that there would be some changes in me, mainly weight gain, that I would have to deal with. After a few months, I was close to the same weight as I was pre-quit. Best advice is to keep yourself physically busy, join a gym or if your lucky enough to live in warmer climate, get out and walk/jog/run. In the evening, when everything/everyone is quiet, read the articles at whyquitdotcom. Good luck.
Avatar f tn I know that is due to not smoking and I expected some weight gain from that. But, I still have no energy. I am calling my doctor tomorrow to ask for more blood work. What should I specifically ask for? I am ready to start smoking again just to make me go to the bathroom. NOT. Any advice would be helpful.
Avatar m tn YES food tastes 300% better, so be prepared to either chew gum or gain weight (Yikes!!), but you now have a challenge to see who is the strongest....if your spouse/girlfriend/boyfriend smokes, get them to stop too...the kisses will be sweeter and not taste like an ash tray :) I';m 68yo, been smoke-free for 30yrs now and have never suffered from any ailments from smoking... I am a bicyclist; riding 120-160m/week... Tell yourself that you want to quit....
Avatar f tn I am ready to quit, and noticed you said you took Chantix. would you recommend this pill? How long after being on Chantix did you actually stop smoking? I was prescribed bupropian, and wonder if maybe Chantix would be better.
393685 tn?1425812522 I smoke 5-10 a day too. Tried to "quit" using CHANTIX right when they found the goiter (stupid thyroid) and so I started taking Chantix and Levothyroxine at the same (an hour apart) and then came the numbness and tingles in my chin. I stopped both and the numbness and tingles stopped. Now I am smoking and taking the Levo and no tingles (guess Chantix is not good for thyroid huh - they should say that on the box!!!) Smoking for about way too long, I think like 12 years.
Avatar f tn I don't know what you should do, but I will tell you what I would do...have him smoke outside. Even secondhand smoke is bad for you and the baby, both now and after the baby is born. The past drinking shouldn't affect the baby. Smokers made a choice to smoke, and I don't believe smokers when they say they can't quit. After smoking for almost 40 years, my grandmother got very sick and quit cold turkey. She had cancer. And lest you think it was too late...
Avatar f tn I smoked almost the entire time I treated the first time. My doc also told me that trying to quit while on tx was too much stress. Well... I actually felt "ready" to quit about half way through treatment. I took Chantix, was smoke free with ease after 3 weeks and was off Chantix in less than 3 months. I was a 20+ year pack a day smoker when I quit. I've now been smoke free for 2 years, 3 months and 6 days.
Avatar n tn I would not think that Chantix would affect your thyroid, but everyone is different. Are you still taking Chantix? I am assuming not. ALso, I feel compelled to mention that I too had the symptoms you had, except for the trouble breathing, and my vitamin D level was extremely deficient. You may want to get that checked. Wishing you the best.
558632 tn?1303471125 just is not fair. also quit smoking with minimal weight gain (using chantix). so if doing so good for my body, did this happen?
Avatar f tn Early pregnancy and can't quit smoking entirely-yes I know it's AWFUL and am mad at myself and feel terribly guilty but I can't seem to give it up completely. Anyone know if chantix or the patch is better or worse than actually smoking & pg? Ideally I'd be able to quit but can't so far.
Avatar m tn You have the right idea and it will be easier now than in 20 or 30 years. Gum and patches work for many and chantix helped me but some people have side effects and can't take it. I have been smoke free for about 10 months and I still take it a few times a week and it was the only thing that helped.
