I thought I was the only person on earth that had biliary dyskinesia and gained weight instead of losing! I can almost watch my belly bloating. I don't understand the weight gain instead of losing, and frankly neither do my doctors. I have NEVER been this heavy in my life! I gained almost 30 pounds in three months and I CAN NOT get it off no matter what I do. I don't eat much because I can't.
I took Chantix for 6 weeks and I haven't smoked in nearly 1 year and 2 months. Although Chantix is generally prescribed for 3 months, and it really should be taken for that long, it is rather expensive and some try to stop using it before the recommended time.
I smoked for 38 yrs. and I thought I would die a smoker. The defining moment came when my doctor asked me to "just try chantix, what do you have to lose".
I have smoked for 40+ years and want to QUIT! My Dr gave me a script for Chantix but after seeing some Thyroid issues here I'm concerned. I have no Thyroid due to Follicular Thyroid Cancer, I take Levothyroxine daily for the rest of my life and have to have blood work every 6 months to maintain my TSH T3 T4 levels to prevent the cancer from returning. Is it safe for me to take CHANTIX?
Not that I'm pro Chantix, but allow me to play devils advocate for a minute.
When one contemplates quitting and then sets out to do it, there is a profound loss.....like losing your best friend, and we all have to deal with. I myself grieved long and hard. Could your depressed state be that you have finally come to terms with the fact that it is your time to quit?
I used Chantix and mourned the loss but I also used it before it was linked to "possible" suicide.
When you say "the pill" to quit smoking, do you mean Chantix? I used it to quit 5 yrs ago and had no trouble with it, at all; however, my husband started on it, then read the possible side effects, got scared and quit taking it. I have not had a cigarette for 5 yrs, he still smokes. Keep in mind the side effects are not inevitable; some people get them, some don't.
The drawback to Chantix is that it's expensive and is not covered by insurance......
I have a question for those of you who used the Chantix to kick the cigarettes. I have smoked on and off for years, and I have quit several times for long periods of time, but this time I am in need of some sort of assistance doing it (the thought of no cigarettes is worse for me than the thought of no norco ever was). I don't want to spend any more money on cigarettes, I hate the smell of cigarette smoke, I always have, pretty weird for a smoker, huh?
The reality is that these drugs - Chantix and antidepressants (which includes Zyban, which is the drug Buproprion also known as Wellbutrin) interact with our brain chemistry and Chantix has not been around long enough to have comprehensive and conclusive long term reasearch evidence (researches talk that basically means we don't know what we may find way down the road and all new Rx's have this risk).
For 17 months i am still undx will get tests back in a few days ...and i want to finally quit smoking but they want me to wait to fill the prescription until all my tests come back now im getting worried ...
Certainly it's better if you cut down on the cigarettes. Ask your OB or RE to prescribe Chantix for you. I hear it's ok to take during pregnancy and it really helps with trying to quit smoking.
Know you're not a lone if you can't quit, many women aren't able to completely quick during pregnancy and the baby turns out okay. I'm not endorsing it of course, just letting you know that you're not the only that's pregnant and could just cut back.

This warning is a dead giveaway that the drug is affecting similar things that antidepressants and anti anxiety drugs and anti psychotics are playing around with.
