Common Questions and Answers about Chantix lose weight

chantix

Avatar f tn Thank You for the encouragement. I get very leary when it comes to anything that might affect my thyroid levels plus I gained so much weight after my surgery because they had a hard time getting my levels corrected. I hope I don't gain weight because its taken me quite a while to lose some but not all of the weight from messed up metabolism.
Avatar f tn my husband is planning on eventually getting the pill for quiting smoking..then plans on trying to lose weight. He's already so overweight, atleast 60++++? plus he's most likely diabetic. Ive heard that the pill is effective but also the side effects are bad... what should he do? he said everything else doesnt work. he's been smoking off and on since he was 14..he's now 37..any helpful ideas?
558632 tn?1303471125 From what I can gather, you are taking anti-thyroid drugs? Have you had your levels checked lately? Back when I was taking tapazole, it worked a lot faster that anyone thought it might. Fixed my hyperthyroidism WAY before my appetite matched my metabolism. Almost instantly put on 20 lbs. I had to reschedule my first followup appointment for a couple of weeks later, and my doctor was a little upset that I had gone so far hypo.
Avatar f tn I was taking Chantix for about a week and a half when I had to quit it because I was experiencing depression which was getting worse by the day. This is going on the 2nd full day of no Chantix but I am still feeling depressed. I want to know how long does it stay in your system for. I woke up today and felt close to normal and then it came back again.
Avatar n tn I would not think that Chantix would affect your thyroid, but everyone is different. Are you still taking Chantix? I am assuming not. ALso, I feel compelled to mention that I too had the symptoms you had, except for the trouble breathing, and my vitamin D level was extremely deficient. You may want to get that checked. Wishing you the best.
Avatar f tn You have more to gain than to lose, but might consider another alternative to Chantix if you consume more than 3 alcoholic beverages per day. I would hate for anyone to go through what these others did. It didn't sound pleasant! Best wishes for success!
Avatar m tn That said, I plan on quitting smoking with help from CHANTIX. (I got them from my Doctor several weeks ago....while I was on my long taper from Hydro). The Dr. does not know about the hydro abuse, just the smoking (obviously). I've had a revelation over 2 months ago that I wanted to beat both of these addictions, and to signify that by summitting Mount Everest in the spring of 2009. My trip is already booked and the training has somewhat begun. But my question is at say...
Avatar m tn just curious....how long have you been taking Chantix, and can you stop taking Chantix without the need to have either a cigarette or a Chantix 'fix'??
427279 tn?1210919821 i was just wondering if any one here uses chantix and is it helping you?....
Avatar f tn I started having problems in Oct 2008 after taking Chantix for about a month. I quit taking the meds because I had a really bad reaction to it. I was angry, very emotional and thought of suicide. I have never been this way before and didn't like so I stopped the med. About a month later I had an episode where I was having slurred speech (alot) and I would drive to work and then sit there and think "how did I get here". I couldnt remember driving. This lasted or about a month.
657423 tn?1227280657 I can go from 8 am til 1pm without a cig. then after the 1st i just keep smoking them all day long. I have only been a hardcore smoker for about 10-11 months. But I have been smoking off and on for the past 4 yrs when i use to do drugs. So my question is will it be any easier for me to quit since i haven't smoked for long? Also should i get chantix from my doc.?
1096641 tn?1271707225 I quit smoking on November 13. I was just down in Disney World and my man handed me a diamond ring!! Beautiful...we've been together 8 years. I never thought I'd get a ring! Anyway...we had a shot and a drink to celebrate our engagement...one led to more ... and I broke...I had two cigarettes! :( I have since had some alcohol on Christmas night and did NOT smoke...I didn't even want to smoke.
407029 tn?1253992623 does anyone know if chantix is hard on the liver? im taking it to stop smoking before TX? anyone knows of anyone who took it does it work?
1096641 tn?1271707225 I used Chantix and didn't have any complications. I have never heard of headaches related to Chantix and I just googled "chantix and headaches" which brought up several articles but there was nothing that links the two (mentions of Chantix and headache on the same page). Just wondering Terry where you heard/read it? My husband suffered from cluster headaches and they were nothing like the ones you describe. His were so intense and lasted sometimes for hours.
Avatar n tn As for the ultraound, no gallstones were mentioned, just a polyp inside the gallbladder, and a "puddle" of sludge under it, ducts appeared clear at that time, and hida scan tech said there wer no blockages he could see, every thing flowed thru. If the pinching feeling is mild, it feels as though I could itch it away, when its severe, heat/light pressure , like my own palm over my side feels good.
Avatar n tn I tried to quit a few months, but it just was'ent the right time for me, I used Chantix and when I tried and only got through the starter pills, so I guess my question is do I need to go back to the Dr and get the starter pack again or are the pills the same?
558632 tn?1303471125 I recently lost 50 pounds, and put 6 pounds back on, then decided to quit smoking and put on another 6 pounds, which i was fine with, i knew i could get the weight off again, but then graves came into my life and keep gaining, I will have the 50 pounds back on in no time, and it truly was a struggle and a great accomplishment for me to lose the weight and quit smoking (it's been 8 mos now), now i have it all stripped away, it doesn't seem fair.
Avatar f tn So your on both suboxone and chantix? Do you feel wierd or anything? Ive heard things about chantix like it causes nightmares and suicidle thoughts. Im kind of scared. Do you really feel good? How long have you been on suboxone?
Avatar f tn Not that I'm pro Chantix, but allow me to play devils advocate for a minute. When one contemplates quitting and then sets out to do it, there is a profound loss.....like losing your best friend, and we all have to deal with. I myself grieved long and hard. Could your depressed state be that you have finally come to terms with the fact that it is your time to quit? I used Chantix and mourned the loss but I also used it before it was linked to "possible" suicide.
Avatar f tn My friend just quit taking Chantix due to the inability to handle the side effects. She has noticed that since quitting the Chantix alcohol has effected her differently. While on the Chantix she noticed the effects of alcohol tokk in quite quickly where now she seems to have a tolerance that was not there before. Is it possible that theh Chantix caused her intolerabilty to alcohol?
444932 tn?1273980797 I had an allergic reaction to Chantix (med to help quit smoking) and my doctor prescribed 6 days worth of Prednisone. This is some evil S***. Makes me feel really hyper but not a good hyper. Lots of energy - too much in fact - but no focus. Makes it so I can't sleep. Feels like I can't eat enough (the last thing I need is to gain weight - self esteem already pretty much sucks). The only positive to all of this is that yesterday at work I was flying high and initially feeling pretty good.
596605 tn?1369946627 Hi I am on Chantix to quit smoking and quit a few days ago. I am very tired so tierd that I cant even turn on the TV.. Is this a normal side effect from going off nicotine? This is the third day that has been like this. I was a heavy smoker before at 1 1/2 packs a day for 30 plus years.
Avatar m tn i would def. get a second opinion. I went through the racing heart and the shakes and went to a doctor and was told that i needed to stop smoking. She put me through a bunch of lung tests and everything, only to be told "everything seems to be fine" then prescribed me chantix. to stop smoking! well i didn't take the chantix because i new something wasn't right!
Avatar f tn I'm no doctor, just a man who has read way too many articles on fitness and tested a few out. What I've found the best way to lose weight is to find your maintenance level (you can find a rough calculator online) that will tell you about how many calories you burn in an avg day. Subtract around 250 calories and you've found your ideal calorie amount! Keep in mind you should take exercise into account as well. You should be shooting around -2 lbs a week.
