Avatar n tn Me too! I had a rapid weight gain/bloating and the RUQ pain, BUT had also quit smoking 1/08. After and ultrasound and a HIDA scan, I have a gallbladder polyp, surgery decision Wed 7/9/08....just coincidental in my case.....
Avatar f tn I have smoked for 40+ years and want to QUIT! My Dr gave me a script for Chantix but after seeing some Thyroid issues here I'm concerned. I have no Thyroid due to Follicular Thyroid Cancer, I take Levothyroxine daily for the rest of my life and have to have blood work every 6 months to maintain my TSH T3 T4 levels to prevent the cancer from returning. Is it safe for me to take CHANTIX?
558632 tn?1303471125 just is not fair. also quit smoking with minimal weight gain (using chantix). so if doing so good for my body, did this happen?
Avatar f tn When you say "the pill" to quit smoking, do you mean Chantix? I used it to quit 5 yrs ago and had no trouble with it, at all; however, my husband started on it, then read the possible side effects, got scared and quit taking it. I have not had a cigarette for 5 yrs, he still smokes. Keep in mind the side effects are not inevitable; some people get them, some don't. The drawback to Chantix is that it's expensive and is not covered by insurance......
427279 tn?1210919821 i was just wondering if any one here uses chantix and is it helping you?....
Avatar f tn I know that is due to not smoking and I expected some weight gain from that. But, I still have no energy. I am calling my doctor tomorrow to ask for more blood work. What should I specifically ask for? I am ready to start smoking again just to make me go to the bathroom. NOT. Any advice would be helpful.
Avatar m tn I took Chantix for 6 weeks and I haven't smoked in nearly 1 year and 2 months. Although Chantix is generally prescribed for 3 months, and it really should be taken for that long, it is rather expensive and some try to stop using it before the recommended time. I smoked for 38 yrs. and I thought I would die a smoker. The defining moment came when my doctor asked me to "just try chantix, what do you have to lose".
Avatar f tn Hello! I was also concerned about the depression and the Chantix affecting me, but my doctor said that the likelyhood of feeling suicidal or more depressed is quite remote, so I decided to give it a try and would quit if I felt awful. I know of a few people who used it and actually claimed to have become "homicidal" and felt extremely angry and violent. Both of these individuals were very, very heavy drinkers, and I am certain that is why Chantix affected them that way.
Avatar n tn I have a twin sister also used the chantix and is going through the exact same thing. We need help and do not know what to do - we seem to have the doctors stumped. PLEASE help.
596485 tn?1253821678 It has only been 3 pounds but I am a petite person and only weigh 130 so any weight gain bothers me and is more noticeable than if I were heavier or taller. To many of you that may sound very trivial but it bothers me. Thanks for listening!!
1096641 tn?1271707225 I used Chantix and didn't have any complications. I have never heard of headaches related to Chantix and I just googled "chantix and headaches" which brought up several articles but there was nothing that links the two (mentions of Chantix and headache on the same page). Just wondering Terry where you heard/read it? My husband suffered from cluster headaches and they were nothing like the ones you describe. His were so intense and lasted sometimes for hours.
558632 tn?1303471125 so my question is did anyone out there gain weight with PTU and was it because dose was too high, my t3 and t4 have gotten better, but tsh is still 0.00?
729288 tn?1251254433 I will pay the $215 on monday for my shipment then I am waiting the 2 weeks suggested and beginning. Here is my question. I am also on chantix.. the stop smoking drug. I really need to stop because I think 27 years is long enough to smoke for anyone. Does anyone know if it will have any kind of reaction? My doc told me to go ahead it wouldnt hurt me.
Avatar m tn I have a question for those of you who used the Chantix to kick the cigarettes. I have smoked on and off for years, and I have quit several times for long periods of time, but this time I am in need of some sort of assistance doing it (the thought of no cigarettes is worse for me than the thought of no norco ever was). I don't want to spend any more money on cigarettes, I hate the smell of cigarette smoke, I always have, pretty weird for a smoker, huh?
Avatar n tn It took months to get into an Endo where I live. I was exhausted, had some weight gain but also had an increased appetite. I began having heart palpitations and it wasn't until I saw the endo that it was treated. I've lost some hair, but I've primarily lost my memory. I have to write everything down, literally everything or I forget to do it. Oh, and I'm HOT all the time. My temp runs 99-100.5 and I feel like it's 110. Literally.
Avatar f tn The reality is that these drugs - Chantix and antidepressants (which includes Zyban, which is the drug Buproprion also known as Wellbutrin) interact with our brain chemistry and Chantix has not been around long enough to have comprehensive and conclusive long term reasearch evidence (researches talk that basically means we don't know what we may find way down the road and all new Rx's have this risk).
Avatar m tn Hello everyone,I have a progressive case of hepatitis C and want to use the drug Chantix to quit smoking and worried about the side affects.Does anyone have any knowledge of this drug interaction.
Avatar n tn For 17 months i am still undx will get tests back in a few days ...and i want to finally quit smoking but they want me to wait to fill the prescription until all my tests come back now im getting worried ...
1096641 tn?1271707225 m happy to hear that you put them down again, and yes, the craving can get to you, and you cannot beat yourself up but you might want to finish your chantix and then buy another and wean off them. I used Chantix and while taking them for a period of time I found that they really helped...no craves at all, I also realized that once I stopped, I had to deal with w/d, physical and emotional and that's when whyquit really helped me.
675923 tn?1296238011 Thank you for the comments/suggestions. I'm definately going to use some of the suggestions. My hubby would love the "increasing sex" and it does produce a better attitude in me. Weight gain and being bored are scary for me. I've already put on more weight in the last three years due to my increased injuries at work and in sports. I am going to use the website you suggested also Kathy Jo. Thanks for that info. I tried Chantix and it gave me nightmares that horrified me.
Avatar f tn Certainly it's better if you cut down on the cigarettes. Ask your OB or RE to prescribe Chantix for you. I hear it's ok to take during pregnancy and it really helps with trying to quit smoking. Know you're not a lone if you can't quit, many women aren't able to completely quick during pregnancy and the baby turns out okay. I'm not endorsing it of course, just letting you know that you're not the only that's pregnant and could just cut back.
Avatar n tn Although Chantix does not contain any nicotine, it acts on nicotine receptors in the brain. This is how the drug works to help people stop smoking. By binding to nicotine receptors, it blocks the effects of nicotine at those sites, helping to prevent the pleasurable effects of smoking. However, Chantix doesn't just bind to nicotine receptors; it also acts a little bit like nicotine, which may help to prevent symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.
380558 tn?1309042387 thing is, I have smoked since I posted this, but not alot at all.. (can't remember how many cigarettes I had yesterday- maybe like 7 or 8) But dang good from having a whole PACK! lol I go to my doc on Monday, hopefully my insurance will cover the Chantix. I've been hearing some really good things about it.. I spoke with a lady/RN from The American Lung Association and she explained to me that NUMEROUS quit from taking Chantix.. It'll work for me, or I'll just take something else.
407029 tn?1253992623 I was smoke free within 3 weeks of starting the Chantix and on March 4, 2008 I will be smoke free for an entire year! They recommend that you use the Chantix for 3 to 6 months. I did so well with it that I was off it in less than 3 months. When you start forgetting to take it you know it's time to come off it. If I could, I we be a walking advertisement for Chantix. I had tried the patch, the gum, zyban and hypnosis in the past and got absolutely no where.
645390 tn?1338555377 I know how individual that can be, and every adverse effect should be in the warnings about a med so we and our doctors know to look out for it. I'm wishing the best for you.
