Chantix vs zyban smokers

Common Questions and Answers about Chantix vs zyban smokers

chantix

Avatar f tn Today I have 1 year of not smoking cigarettes. Woot whew! I used all the stuff to quit including zyban, patches, chantix and nicotine gum, in that order. I’m chewing 3-6 pieces of 4 mg nicotine gum per day. I told myself that after 1 year of being smoke free, I would deal with my gum addiction. The plan of course is to wean myself off of the gum. I thought I would start by cutting the 4 mg in half and see if that works, the problem is I love the gum….
Avatar f tn Hello, Chantix (varenicline) and Zyban (bupropion) are the only two non-nicotine medications approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for smoking cessation; both are available in pill form and only by prescription. Chantix received FDA approval in 2006; Zyban was approved in 1997. These drugs can be effective tools, but users need to be aware of some potentially serious side effects. You can try that and they are very cheap in some pharmacy's.
407029 tn?1253992623 If I could, I we be a walking advertisement for Chantix. I had tried the patch, the gum, zyban and hypnosis in the past and got absolutely no where. Chantix is a wonder drug as far as I'm concerned. To me the benefits of Chantix far out way any of the risks.
Avatar m tn I started taking Zyban about two months ago for smoking cessation. At first I had very little side effects - in fact, I felt fantastic and ceased smoking within the first week. Three weeks into the treatment, I became emotionally very unstable, crying for no reason, feelings of worthlessness - almost an induced depression with insomnia, very vivid dreams, severe join pains etc. I coped well with those until I went out one night, had a few drinks and a total blackout followed.
Avatar f tn Since I am struggling with my moods due to lack of meds, I am very concerned about how the nicotine withdrawals if I were to quit cold turkey. Any suggestions? From my research I have found that Chantix is definitely not an option for me.
Avatar m tn I quit smoking using Chantix as well. I am only 1 month non-smoking. I only took Chantix for 9 days as on the 9th day I found out i was pregnant. So I was non smoking and pregnant, to only two weeks later miscarry. I am not too sure if its from the hormones, or from the symptoms of not smoking, but i was extremely irritable, it was almost to the point that everything i that came out of my mouth was snappy. I developed insomnia right from the get go from Chantix.
997898 tn?1303734864 ive tried the Zyban and patches and i cant get passed the taste of the gum, losengers so Now I am taking chantix so far it seems to be working... GOOD LUCK!
Avatar f tn I started having problems in Oct 2008 after taking Chantix for about a month. I quit taking the meds because I had a really bad reaction to it. I was angry, very emotional and thought of suicide. I have never been this way before and didn't like so I stopped the med. About a month later I had an episode where I was having slurred speech (alot) and I would drive to work and then sit there and think "how did I get here". I couldnt remember driving. This lasted or about a month.
Avatar m tn i mention this because generally smokers getting lung cancer are long time smokers so if it does benefit them, then i think it would apply to someone who's been a long-time smoker but has not been diagnosed with cancer. either way...i don't know if you've ever quit smoking before, but it's worth it just because many things feel better. i quit 10 months ago. i still get urges sometimes...but ultimately it's great to be able to breath again and smell....
Avatar f tn I knew I had an addictive personality because of a past drug problem and tried but failed quitting smoking using patches or zyban. I then tried chantix and been stopped since nov. It is a miracle drug but I have to give myself some credit too. I still take one pill a day.
Avatar n tn So, it didn't go so well, but I will try again. I've never quit cold turkey, I always give in to my stupid excuses and I know better. So, I am going to make an appt with my doctor for some extra help. I've heard Zyban is good, kinda similar to Chantix. I have general anxiety disorder which Zyban will help with that too. I'm a pharmacy student and have learned alot about what smoking does to your body, as well as I've seen it first hand with my mom.
Avatar f tn Wellburtrin seems to be one of the AD meds Drs will prescribe after drug use too. It treats magor depressive disorders and seasonal affective disorders. The zyban of bupropin is to help stop smoking by reducing carvings. It takes a good month to 6 weeks for it to kick in. Wellbutrin is a norepinephrine and dopamine reuptake inhibitor. It has potential to make you happy etc. It is unlikely to make you gain weight or affect your libido.
Avatar f tn I am going to attempt to quit smoking to nock another bad habit out of my life. My question is...has anyone tried Chantix? I am about to start it but I am really nervous because I have read that it can have some serious mental side effects. Has anyone tried it? If so, what was your experience with it?
Avatar f tn I used all the stuff to quit including zyban, patches, chantix and nicotine gum, in that order. I’m still using the nicotine gum and, I told myself that after 1 year of being smoke free, I would deal with my gum addiction. Booo hooo because I love the gum. The plan of course is to wean myself off of the gum now. Scheesch, if it’s not one thing, it's another thing when it comes to addiction!
1096641 tn?1271707225 I quit smoking on November 13. I was just down in Disney World and my man handed me a diamond ring!! Beautiful...we've been together 8 years. I never thought I'd get a ring! Anyway...we had a shot and a drink to celebrate our engagement...one led to more ... and I broke...I had two cigarettes! :( I have since had some alcohol on Christmas night and did NOT smoke...I didn't even want to smoke.
Avatar f tn I am ready to quit, and noticed you said you took Chantix. would you recommend this pill? How long after being on Chantix did you actually stop smoking? I was prescribed bupropian, and wonder if maybe Chantix would be better.
393685 tn?1425812522 I smoke 5-10 a day too. Tried to "quit" using CHANTIX right when they found the goiter (stupid thyroid) and so I started taking Chantix and Levothyroxine at the same (an hour apart) and then came the numbness and tingles in my chin. I stopped both and the numbness and tingles stopped. Now I am smoking and taking the Levo and no tingles (guess Chantix is not good for thyroid huh - they should say that on the box!!!) Smoking for about way too long, I think like 12 years.
Avatar f tn ) It sounds like ur friends that told you about this 4 week program were on some sort of aid. When you quit using like chantix or zyban you smoke for the first 2 weeks. When you smoke the nicotine binds to receptors in your body that carry the nicotine to your brain that's where the cravings come in. In these medications they block those receptors from carrying the nicotine to the brain.
Avatar n tn I invite you to hang in there with your tobacco abstinence. There are some medications nowadays that can be very helpful, including Zyban, nicotine gum, the nicotine patch, and Chantix. Any of them is better for you than smoking. Some of them can be combined, for better effect. For instance, Zyban can be combined with either the patch or the gum.
Avatar f tn I don't know what you should do, but I will tell you what I would do...have him smoke outside. Even secondhand smoke is bad for you and the baby, both now and after the baby is born. The past drinking shouldn't affect the baby. Smokers made a choice to smoke, and I don't believe smokers when they say they can't quit. After smoking for almost 40 years, my grandmother got very sick and quit cold turkey. She had cancer. And lest you think it was too late...
Avatar f tn I smoked almost the entire time I treated the first time. My doc also told me that trying to quit while on tx was too much stress. Well... I actually felt "ready" to quit about half way through treatment. I took Chantix, was smoke free with ease after 3 weeks and was off Chantix in less than 3 months. I was a 20+ year pack a day smoker when I quit. I've now been smoke free for 2 years, 3 months and 6 days.
